@RoomB31 You are right. Some Nintendo fans are stuck in old days, and that is why they do not open to new ideas and are satisfied with rehashed games such as Mario U.
Sonic Boom demo! I really wanted to see its quality is myself first before deciding to buy it or not. Reviewers like to trash Sonic games.
Does anyone here feel that Shining Force series is more superior to the Fire Emblem series? They are similar games and the interference for Shining Force is much simpler than Fire Emblem.
The thing about Sonic games is that the reviewer's scores are usually mediocre to bad. Nintendo fans often have the same opinion. But when you actually play it, you found it more worthwhile than what reviewers think (e.g., Sonic Lost World).
The thing about Mario games is that the reviewer's scores are usually overwhelmingly good. Nintendo fans often have the same opinion. But when you actually play it, you found it worse than what reviewers think (e.g., Mario U and Luigi U).
@NikkiChu I would buy Xbox One too if the price for xbox one is that low during the sales.
However, it is quite safe to say that Wii U gamers are different from PS4 and Xbox one gamers. Wii U gamers like platformers while PS4 and Xbone gamers are for games with a mature story. Yakuza, when are you going to Wii U in North America?
@Nap03 From what I hear many Nintendo gamers have the personality trait of narrow-mind (i.e., low in openness to new experience), and does not accept anything that is not from Nintendo.
@arnoldlayne83 I thought powerpc was dead since Apple switches to Intel Processor. What is the motivation behind Wii U to keep using powerpc? I also thought that powerpc cpu is more expansive because they are less popular and profitable. Well, at least because wii used powerpc, and thus wii u still have the backward capability, although I doubt the next generation after wii u will backward capability is meaningful — Nintendo is probably going to throw out the gamepad.
@Bolt_Strike @TheSonicdude97 Please, sonic adventure 2 was good at the standard 10-15 years ago but is below today's high standard. The camera was uncooperative back then (but the camera was uncooperative in any games at that era).
Sonic Lost World just does things right as it has no camera issues. However, as Bolt_Strike has said, fans do not like its sudden departure to the usual sonic formula.
But why didn't Sonic Team listens to fans by imitating Nintendo's approach of rehashing Mario 2D games? I am perfectly confident that Sonic Team can make good 2D sonic games - just look at Sonic Colors.
I just paid $20 for darksiders 2, but it is good because my wii u would need extra download space for this game anyway. Plus, I get the game on physical disc!
@thomin I love sonic colors but it is mostly a 2d game.sonic lost world, in contrast, is a very 3d game. List world also have increased elements if exploration. I personally think lost world is the best 3d sonic game made.
@OdnetninAges I love Sonic Lost World — currently playing it all over for the second time. Colors and Generations are good, but Lost World is a true successor to the 3D sonic series.
Therefore, I suspect that people hate Sonic Boom because they just have this prejudice against Sonic games. Mario games just cannot excite me that much (including the highly acclaimed Mario Galaxy). I remember playing Galaxy 2 and the only thing that excited me was the flying stages (and they are probably the least Mario stages).
@andyg1971 Partly my bad. I cannot easily tolerate people badmouthing sonic, just as nintendo fans cannot tolerate people badmouthing mario (though I truly feel everything I said about Mario and Luigi U, and particularly Wario).
@andyg1971 You want a great Mario game? Go back to Mario 3 and 4. Mario U and Luigi U are simply effort to suck gamers' money. They used the same engine as in Mario Wii, which actually had better platforming designs than both Mario U and Luigi U. It seems like this is what Nintendo is thinking: "Our fans are suckers and they will spend like $60 to buy our games anyway, no matter what we produced. As long as we re-used the same ideas in our old games and re-packaged them as new, they will like it, the reviews will be good, and they will pay us money." That mentality also made them produce games like Game and Wario ($39.99 for that crap?) They are also thinking: "Let's do minimum effort by not even changing the boss fight in Luigi U. Just change a bit and our fans will love it."
(1) Gamepad: I still do not know why the gamepad is necessary.
(2) Pretty good games: Happy with Sonic Lost World and many first party games. But please, do not keep bring copies of NSMB series to Wii U.
(3) Failure to attract third-party support (and I do not believe that Nintendo alone can bring all the games that gamers want.)
(4) Moving towards a trend of being conservative than innovative (a lot of the games are improvement of the previous game rather than bland new). It is fine but it is not a viable model in long run.
(5) Pretty good values so far.
I really want good, challenging platformers, not like Kirby... Platformers that are so innovative that it will shock my mind.
What is the point of NIntendo Club? In addition, the awards for 3DS are usually much better than those for Wii U, and this is unfair for Wii U console owners.
@WaveWarlock Even nostalgia may make this game playable, my nostalgia does not because my experience with this game was short and frustrating. Has anyone also mentioned that the game also looks bad. Adventure Island (released even earlier in 1986 in Japan) looked much better even though Adventure Island was released earlier.
@Kaze_Memaryu Agree with you. I finished it in 8-10 hours. Good game overall but I did not understand why people like it that much. This game is an improved version of Castlevanic in NES, but it is overall quite a simple, non-complex game.
Adventure of Lolo 2 was actually the first game I ever purchased (for NES). I hated it - slow, boring, and if you got stuck in a stage, you got stuck and could not advance. Of course nowadays you can watch youtube video and find a solution. But, the game is short and you can beat it in no time.
@unrandomsam I tried Kirby on Wii before. I found there are creative ideas there but I just did not like the fact that you cannot die in that game. The game seemed to design for little kids. I tried Mario Wii. Its stage design is better than Mario U but the New Mario Bros series always stay the same - i.e., uninspiring and unimaginative. I really cannot get why Mario U gets like 9 why Sonic Lost World gets a lower score. The only reason is that one is developed by Nintendo and another by Sega.
The review you forwarded was good, and it is interesting that they even have a morality score for the game.
Nintendo fans reactions towards Nintendo games versus non-Nintendo games that get the same score of 7 here in Nintendolife: Hyrule Warrors: 'It is exceedingly fun!' Sonic Lost World: 'It is crap and garbage!'
@OdnetninAges I watched the demo on youtube and it makes me wonder if I should buy a 3DS due to this game. One year ago I nearly purchased a 3DS due to the high quality in Sonic Lost World.
@DamienMcFerran I would actually be suggesting that Nintendolife be careful when handling news from Sonic or other popular games with huge fanbase. Fans here were be pretty shocked when seeing headlines such as "game-breaking bugSSSSSS", when there is probably just one showed in the video. Every 3D game nowadays has bugSSSSSS. It will be more opportune when you actually tested the game and found out a lot of game-breaking bugSSS before you wrote such a headline. Fans here are now arguing against each other, with emotions being stirred up, and particularly many of us actually enjoyed the recent sonic entries (Sonic Lost World, Sonic Transformed, Sonic Colors, etc) more than some of the Nintendolife staff members (which is fine :> ). I am sure that the number of posts will reach the number of over 100 in no time simply due to people arguing against each other.
@AVahne Yes, we expect 60ftp for Windwaker while it offers at most 30 ftp with wildly fluctuating framerates (so bad that human bare eyes can notice). What year is it now? The original game was in 2000s and now it is 2010s. It was over 10 years and Nintendo still did not fix the issue of framerate in this early game?
Poor graphics in a huge world is forgivable. How do you not know that Sonic Boom is a huge world also?
I did not have problems with Sonic Transformed. There are occasional glitches but the overall game is excellent. If you disagree then ask the PC gamers who are still playing the game these days. Sonic Lost World nearly has no glitch. People found a rare one in the pinball stage but I never encounter, and Sega quickly fixes it with a patch.
Oh, MK8 has glitches too. Somehow people can finish the entire race within 15 seconds and win. I still see it these days and Nintendo has NOT fixed it. I guess Nintendo does not bother about it.
I don't understand all the hate. Nintendo made poor games too. Windwaker's framerate dip widely (i can notice it even with my bare eyes) even it is not a speedy game. Even without dipping the framerate was only 30ftp. Game and Wario is just another miserable game - all mini games are crap except gamers and maybe one another. They tried to charge you like 40 bucks for it. Mario U is supposed to be a modern game but played worse than Mario 3 and 4 that were made 20 years ago. Most recent Nintendo platformers are copying from their predecessors.
@Captain_Toad i mistakenly press the report button as i type with my small phone.
My point was not about the success of the game but Nintendo's abysmal effort in advertising third party gamea such as sonic lost world and sonic boom: 'Nintendo's actual support on Sonic games (sonic lost world + sonic boom) have been abysmal, even though they are exclusive games for Nintendo consoles. And compared ti rayman legend. As such, there is no need to make games exclusive to wii u.
If I were Sega I would drop exclusive support to Nintendo's consoles. Nintendo's actual support on Sonic games (sonic lost world + sonic boom) have been abysmal, even they are exclusive games for Nintendo consoles. In contrast, Nintendo spent so much energy on advertising Raymen Legends at the beginning, which turn out to be a multi-platform game. What is the point of supporting exclusively on Nintendo consoles?
@Akira_1975 I think people are waiting its price to go down, just like Wonderful 101. (I know I am.) W101 is now half-price everywhere one year after its release.
I got Mario 3 and 4 with 7.99 and they were great. Would I pay 40 dollars when I can get those individual games independently in eshop with a lower price?
The problem of Mario Kart 8 is that I feel like playing a lottery game each time: Whether you win or not depends on whether you get the items that you need, particularly on the last round.
Not sure if I will actually buy these additional DLC given the luck factor in this game.
