It's not long now until Mario Kart 8 gets its first helping of DLC, and to keep you keen Nintendo has released a video which shows off the amazing Excitebike Arena course — inspired, of course, by the NES game Excitebike.
The course is packed with bumps which are perfect for trick boosts, and even features a massive status of the original biker from the 8-bit classic. Check out the footage and screens below and let us know your own personal excitement level by posting a comment.

Looks pretty sweet
Looks fantastic!
Wow that look's fun.
I love how everyone is using a bike. Nice touch, Nintendo.
Stop showing me tracks and give me a release date darn it!
How Exciting!!! Seriously, the mud patches, the 4 lane set up, the bumps and the barrier that's in front of the racers that go down at the start of the race, give an amazing Excitebike vibe.
Gamexplain will have a field day with this...
looks awesome
Love it! November can't come soon enough. When is this pack due to release, exactly?
@Samurai_Goroh No one knows, they haven't said anything other than 'November'.
Did anyone else notice that it looks very similar to Baby Park. I mean it is basically the same shape as it being an oval shape. and There is also pure item chaos. this track looks great and i cant wait to see the mulitple routes. This should be a fun track for clan wars. I hope that this track can also be a battle track because this would be an awesome battle track!!!! OH and btw wouldn't it be awesome if the dlc comes out like next week?!?!?!?
I've never been so excited to play ExciteBike, not even for World Rally!
That looks awesome! You can really see how the developers are having fun with this game. I can't wait to play this.
And this course will be editable?, or will be random?, because in a scene of the video, shows that a same part of the course is different.
It's probably randomized, which is really awesome.
random generated tracks would be great. Wonder if the the F-Zero track is random too. N64's X Cup was neat.
Awesome!
"It's not long now"
Well Nov is in 4 days so I suppose... Maybe it will just be auto downloaded like Hyrule Warriors was DLC did so they won't tell us the date beforehand? Think I'ld actually like that for a change.
Track reminds me of something my kids built in Mod Nation Racers on PS3. I realize the graphics in this game are pretty amazing so a full track editor was never going to happen but something simple like the SSBU stage builder would sure be nice. Even if we were just limited to adding obstacles to a track like this and moving the ground up and down. Just some use for the Gamepad and to mess around with.
Any word on how amiibo work in this game yet? Guess we'll be getting a Nintnedo Direct in the next couple of weeks.
So, is Nintendo crazy enough to have this DLC come out on Nov 20 w/ both SSBU and Pokemon on the 21st? On Thanksgiving in the US? There are only 2 other Thursdays in Nov, Nintendo should just pick one already.
I love how it's supposed to change each race. That'll make this course a whole lot more interesting.
Man, November is gonna rock. MK8 DLC, Hyrule Warriors DLC, Smash, Pokemon...does it ever end?
This track looks fantastic. I'm sold on the content.
I'm with rjejr on the release date.....pick a date Nintendo!
If I were them, I would release it on the 6th of November and give enough space for Nintendo fans and the other titles coming out. However, I have this gut feeling that it won't be that early. Maybe the following Monday/Thursday (EU/NA) because Halloween and the "Street Pass Weekend" coming up. They would be dumb to push it past the 13th! If they do that, I won't download the DLC for months!
saw this vídeo and bought the DLC pack
I'm such Excite fanboy
That's remarkably straightforward for this generation of MarioKart. I expected to be doing half the track upside down or something.
Ive bought all the Dlc,but Am i the only one whos been underwhelmed by the lack of use of the anti gravity effect? The newtracks so far seem plain and repetitive...I havent lost all hope yet though!
If only everyone used bikes...
Looks pretty basic, with no real shortcuts? Should be massive fun though. Definitely could get messy hahaha!!
Looks pretty basic with not much scope for shortcuts. Should be massive fun though. Could get very hectic over those bumps!!
@SakuraHaruka From that Youtube video's description: "Bring your bike of choice to the starting grid for the most authentic experience, but beware - the location of ramps and speed boosts change every time you race!", so yes, it will be random.
Randomly generated exitebike course... My word.
Wow...wow
@rjejr
I would not mind having this on Thanksgiving. I guess Nintendo will update the eShop that Thursday? When I purchased it the text said something like "Coming at the end of November". And for this they don't need to have open stores so they could do it on a holiday.
I think I just found my new favorite track.
They've got Mario and Tanooki Mario racing side by side. Shameless. I was half expecting Metal Mario or Baby Mario to show up too. So many Marios.
Cool!!
I really like the Excitebike music arrangement... Good stuff.
Looks wonderful and fun! Movember is gonna rock!
Since I already pre ordered both packs, I would love Battle Arenas as DLC
Awesome...Just plain awesome!
This is gonna be great! I paid for both DLC packs when they were first announced, I got caught up in all the excitement to be honest, but I really do think it was a great deal and I'm more than happy with how Nintendo are handling DLC so far. Can't wait!
I am excite!
Was hoping for a release date announcement, hoping it comes early on in November before Smash and Pokemon otherwise I will have a hard time playing everything.
finally they choose a franchise that fits to mario kart. not like zelda and animal crossing
Is the track changing or do I need glasses?
I'm hyped!!
Super mario smash kart 8!
For those expecting an early November release, keep in mind that Mario Kart 8 was released on the 30th of May. I wouldn't be surprised if the DLC packs are also scheduled to release around the 30th of November and the 30th of May 2015. That way they are evenly distributed; so that there are six months between the game and the first DLC pack, and 6 months between the first and second DLC pack.
Awesome, looks fun!!
In other news, there's actually something new on the US Club Nintendo...
@ Bass_X0
Man, I've always wanted to play that game. Games like this are what the VC is perfect for.
@sinalefa - ""Coming at the end of November"
Yeah, I read that as well - I check every few days to see if the eShop has a date yet so I can finally purchase it
You know, you might be on to something w/ that Thanksgiving Day release. But - and I'm really not sure about this - I don't think the eShop updates on holidays so it would probably be Wed 26 (my wife's birthday so I remember the date). But T-Day would be cool. I'm cooking for 15 people but it would certainly entertain the kids. Along w/ SSBU - I'm leaning towards getting it Day 1, broke as I am.
Who knows, I can't figure Nitnedo out. SSB U and amiibo same day as Pokemon ASOR, so maybe the DLC as well w/ amiibo support? And the new mysterious HW amiibo support? Maybe all the same day? I give up.
@Vineleaf - Can't just post something like that w/o a link:
https://club.nintendo.com/rewards-details/a/45108.do
3 22" x 28" SSB posters for 700 coins on US Club Nintnedo.
@rjejr Sure I can! The excitement of something new there is palpable and I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise! Or I was lazy and forgot to copy in the link. Probably the latter.
I do wish it was something besides posters, but still, nice to know it isn't a ghost town. Yet.
They should have made one of the new characters the Excitebike driver.
I REALLY wish item costumes were either items or costumes... not characters. Metal would be a neat little item and the tanooki suit could have been the leaf still... tisk... instead it's a worthless character addition.
It's a shame that they've shown two tracks now and neither incorporate either anti-gravity, gliding, or underwater sections.
Looks cool though
@LDXD Yes, it's in the first DLC pack and the 2nd DLC pack comes in May 2015.
Genius
AMAZING!
The best £11 spent on DLC.
So looking forward to new challenges.
Can't wait for Amiibo update either.
Would you credit it 43 yrs old and wanting toy figures 😆
I hope this DLC comes out before the 21st, cause I would really like to actually play it! XD
Really like the tracks like this and Baby Park, simple but hectic.
For those underwhelmed by the complexity of the tracks for DLC - my guess is, these were first tracks of the 8 coming in November to be completed, and the more complex ones will be shown as we get closer to release day.
@MasterWario Right. If it comes out after, I'm gonna end up being busy with Smash Bros. for the Wii U. Also, I really like the Excitebike remix on the track.
WHEN'S THE RELEASE DATE??? It better come out before Smash.
This is beyond awesome. I wonder what the F Zero track will look like. Anyway, I'll buy the DLC pack soon
That's actually very cool.
Giddy-up the Epona bike round them jumps!
Very boring looking track. Still not enough to make me actually want the dlc.
How can this track be boring. One track MK8 was lacking was a short, manic sprint race. And now we're getting one.
@NbaJunkie
Uhm, this is only the new track we've actually seen yet. The other one(Yoshi's Circuit) is a retro track. So don't jump the gun. The F-Zero track could very well be entirely anti-gravity and the Zelda one will probably have anti-gravity sections as well. And that still leaves one more brand new track that we know absolutely nothing about yet... Assuming of course it's 4 new and 4 retro like we expect it to be.
This track doesn't need anti-gravity anyway! It's mimicking the style of a classic game and it looks awesome as is!
@KodyDawg
LOL! Yeah, detailed analysis and discussions are going to be uploaded soon I'm sure. Gotta love GameXplain. He is super passionate about Mario Kart.
Edit: Haha. He actually already has his discussion video uploaded! That didn't take long!
Love how this turned out~
I still can't get over how Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach could have easily been handled the way the different colored Yoshi and Shy-Guys were. That's just me though. Not that big of a deal.
I really like how Nintendo is pretty set on keeping the interest in Mario Kart 8 strong, though honestly who would blame them.
My slowly depleting college funds are ready for November
@rjejr
Actually all the "end of November" and "end of May" wording has been removed from Nintendo's sites though, so it's possible they may have pushed the release date up earlier in the month.. Perhaps so it's out before Super Smash Bros is? That's what I'm hoping anyway. I want this DLC so badly! Give it to me!
I can't tell...but is this track randomized each time or something? o_0
wait does this track randomize every time you play???
It might come out in the first or second week who knows (:
There are only bikes racing on this track. Excitebike? hmm, what a coincidence!
Hype!
Ive just been on the store (UK one) to pre-purchase this and its not on there. The other DLC packs for MK8 are, but not this one for some reason
Uh, hey, why isn't anyone in the comments mentioning the Animal Crossing track that is very obviously going to happen? There's a massive Animal Crossing leaf on one of the DLC Grand Prixs, it even shows the track when you click on it then next... There's a Yoshi shell, Triforce, Animal Crossing leaf and bell with a face (unsure what that one is). Pretty big hints if you ask me.
Anyway, on topic, looking foward to all the DLC for this game! I just got it on Thursday but I'm already hooked! I'm going to pre-pay for the whole season pass later on in anticipation (I wasn't left with enough money for it after buying the Mario Kart 8 premium bundle).
Love it!
Excitebike arena, super EXCITEd! Can't contain my EXCITEment! Looking forward to playing the upcoming MK8 DLC packs.
gari, this is part of the first pack. The store hasn't updated yet
Omg I cannot wait for this
so wait wait wait, is the track customizable? or i dont get it xD well im preatty excited and this track looks alot of fun :3
"Bring your bike of choice to the starting grid for the most authentic experience, but beware - the location of ramps and speed boosts change every time you race! (Except on Time Trials, of course!)"
Woooow!
Does anyone know for sure that we can even use these tracks for online play, because if I can't use them I don't really think there worth the price nintendo is asking for them.
@mowerdude I think you can with friends, I think I saw them on the stage select screen when I played with friends but I haven't tried any other online modes yet, only the with friends one.
@rjejr @dkxcalibur Nintedo has already picked a date, they just didn't tell us yet. November 13th seems like a good bet to me, since that date is suspiciously empty in the NoE upcoming release schedule.
yeah hopefully later on when more ppl get them you can use them online if not its going to suck :/
@DarkNinja9 They never said you can't from the get-go...
@mowerdude Unlikely, unless they somehow setup waiting rooms for DLC and non-DLC owners. And repeat that for the next DLC etc. So i doubt it.
Awesome indeed, hopefully they make an F-Zero, Diddy Kong Racing, and Stunt Race FX track sometime in the future too.
@Bass_X0 Ah right, cool.
This is going to be fun. Can't wait.
@Mk_II
Why can't they do just that? That's what other games like CoD do with their DLC. I suspect the game itself is going to get another update(version 3.0 or whatever) when this DLC comes out, just like it did when the Mercedes DLC came out. With that update could come new DLC online modes.
It dawned on me that a great way for Nintendo to approach this is MAKE THE DLC EXCLUSIVE TO WORLDWIDE ONLINE! Think about it... While splitting up the community in regional races could in fact make it difficult to get rooms/lobbies filled with a decent amount of DLC owning players, with worldwide you would almost always be able to get enough players together for some good races. All they would have to do is update the online menu to include something along the lines of "Worldwide with DLC" or whatever and then the "search engine" would automatically seek out other players across the world who have the DLC and off you go. Just like that you're voting on all 32 original tracks AND the 8 new DLC tracks and everyone is happy as can be.
Of course it will get more complicated when pack 2 comes out, but I think that would definitely work great for right now...
@vio I thought about the new DLC splitting up the gaming community as well. You raise some interesting points and I'm curious to see how Nintendo will react to this. I'd like to know how well the DLC sales are going because that will certainly affect Nintendo's plan of attack.
Sometimes I am cautious of DLC and other times I am grateful for it! These MK8 DLC packs are a huge boost in content for a reasonable price. Everyone should buy it so we don't have to worry about splitting the online community =)
How brilliant that the track changes each time you play, Excite bike style. Assuming we are getting more that 3 laps then on this track then? Good dam you Nintendo, where is Link on that Master Cycle?
Right, release date... Them mk8 dlc pre-paid cards are going on sale in Japan from 31st. So, I can't imagine retailers would want them on the shelf too long, before the first dlc arrived. Plus, expecting before the smash release dates. However, we have six more tracks to see and at the current trend it been one a week. If we do see another track trailer tomorrow or next few days. Then, I expect an early of the month release.
@NbaJunkie Well to put it this way: if the F-Zero track doesn't have any antigrav stuff, they are officially idiots
I suspect they save this feature for where it works both thematically and with the layout. I for one is happy that they didn't just shoehorn it into every single map.
WAHOO
Looks sweet!
Can we also have a new Excitebike/Truck for Wii U please Nintendo?
LOL Awesome! I luv'd the 3D Excitebike remake, this has taken it to a whole new level.
It would be cool if one section of the track forced you to race from a side perspective.
@vio - I've never seen it on a website only on the eShop, I'm going to check now - BRB. Nope, still says "end of Nov 2014" adn "end of May 2015" on the eShop for both the single and multi-pack. The eShop does have a cool spooky Halloween motif going though.
@jariw - 13th sounds good. Maybe MK8 DLC and a SSBU demo that day.
Not that SSBU needs a demo, but 8 player on an in store kiosk would be nice, even 1 player and 7 NPC, but the amiibo certainly do, so a SSBU demo for people who want to try out amiibo before picking up the full game for Christmas. And if the MK8 DLC includes amiibo support so much the better.
I'm seriously expecting an amiibo Nintendo Direct next week (so probably the week after). We still haven't' seen ANY amiibo gameplay for MK8, Captain Toad or Hyrule Warriros. Not even a screenshot. (Yoshi and MP10 can wait for an ND about early 2015 games sometime in Dec)
The problem of Mario Kart 8 is that I feel like playing a lottery game each time: Whether you win or not depends on whether you get the items that you need, particularly on the last round.
Not sure if I will actually buy these additional DLC given the luck factor in this game.
@rjejr - In the EU or well here in UK, we have no mention of the end of November on the eshop. 13th looks good to me too. I am completely confused to how amiibo are going to be used in MK8. Do you have any ideas?
@WYLD-WOO - "Do you have any ideas?"
I have ideas, but Nintendo and I don't see eye to eye very often.
Let's see -
They aren't playable in SSB so maybe you can use them as your character, but several of them are already in MK8. They could unlock tracks or cars/bikes but we are already paying for that in the 2 DLC packs. No stage builder so they can't give us objects like in Disney Infinity Toy Box. We could use them to hold our car/bike configuration to bring it to a friends house but it's easy enough to configure a car on the fly and our drivers don't level up.
OK, I don't have any good ideas after all.
Edit - Obvious usage - racing against them in multiplayer, though I don't see how thats much different than just doing Grand Prix though I suppose if you are really good buddies with your amiibo.
As for the date - US is getting SSBU in Nov, Captain Toad in Dec, EU is getting them both a month later. So who knows? DLC should be worldwide release date though.
Well, well... It turns out the DLC is indeed going to be playable online!! I totally didn't catch this, but the awesome guys at GameXplain did with their detailed analysis. I'm including the trailer for everyone to see themselves. Now pause at the beginning before the footage of the actual course starts. You'll notice at the bottom of the screen in small white text it says:
"Broadband internet access required for online play."
So there you go! Straight from Nintendo. Of course this doesn't tell us exactly how this is going to work, but we'll find out soon enough.
@rjejr - I knew you would at least have ideas and that's more than I've come up with. Using the characters not currently used in MK would make a lot of sense and would explain the lack of choices with the selection proposed for the dlc. Great idea and I hope Nintendo see eye to eye with you on that.
My only one idea which is linked with a battle type of mode and would work simliar to smash. Which would involve a new battle mode with the option to battle with or against.
@WYLD-WOO - MK8 really needs some battle "arenas". I tried battling w/ my kids a couple of times but it just doesn't work. Its technically not broken but it's not enjoyable enough to play.
I'm really looking forward to this! I'm a big excite bike fan!
