Phones sell more than videogame consoles? It's almost like one is a thing you NEED in modern society. Hmmm. Next you're going to tell me grass is green lmao. Next time address my actual argument instead of stating the obvious. Mobile gaming isn't going to eat at Switch sales my dude. I've downloaded hundreds of free to play mobile games and don't remember 98% of them, because the best of them were only fun for like two days. Mobile gaming and dedicated gaming are two different things.
Well yeah, I just think that until we start seeing more actual games on the Play Store instead of cheaply made free to play puzzle games, marketing your device as the most powerful Android device means very little. I have the Galaxy S9 and it's not ridiculously big and plays every game I've downloaded on the Store. If people want a good phone for phone games, fine, but this thing isn't going to compete with a dedicated gaming device with actual good games.
Lmao dude you don't seriously think this phone is going to compete with the Switch when it comes to core games do you? Make your device as powerful as you want, doesn't mean much when your selection of games comes from the Google Play Store.
It's funny too because if you're going to copy the Switch and GameVice accessory, why only go with one side? This Huawei design is beyond stupid because you still have to use touch controls for buttons and a second stick.
@Razer it's not even going to compete with other Huawei phones, at least I don't think it will. It's as big as a tablet, I know I wouldn't get a phone that big.
I've been waiting patiently for this, and I can keep waiting. There's a lot going on in the next couple months and if they need more time to polish this up, take it.
It'll do okay in China I think, but that's it. Actually scratch that, even if China is big on mobile gaming I can't even see them paying $1000 for a phone that's entirely too big.
This thing looks like complete and utter crap lmao, too big to be a good phone and too crappily designed to want to game on.
As for copycats, I do hope Sony makes another portable and slaps Bloodborne, Persona 5, and the God of War games on it. That's if they bother supporting it, because we all know how well they treated their last one.
Exactly, I mean look at how big Breath of the Wild is, all without loading screens except for when you go into Shrines! We've got big FPS games like Doom and Wolfenstein running on a handheld, and you can literally go from planet to space to planet again all without loading screens in Starlink. The Switch is definitely the beefiest handheld yet and having so many of my favorite games in the past fifteen years (Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Doom, Shovel/Hollow Knight, Bayonetta 2, Dark Souls, Skyrim, Mario Kart/Party, soon to be Pokemon, Smash, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, and Metroid Prime) is beyond amazing. The Switch is a fantastic device with fantastic games, and Dark Souls is another victory for its fans.
My favorite Soulsborne game is Bloodborne, and that game is 30 FPS with more dips than DS on Switch. Granted it's a much more graphically advanced game, but 30 FPS has always been the norm for Soulsborne games imo. DS2 is the only Souls game I've played that was 60 FPS on my first playthrough (played the scholar of the first sin edition), and that's arguably the worst game in the series. It's so cool to play a Souls game wherever I want!
Savage. Love it. Pointing out the audio quality is fine, but pretending it completing ruins the game is outrageous. These people saying they won't buy the game because of it weren't going to buy it anyway and don't like that other people don't care as much as they do.
@LOZ_Master95
I can assure you that the texture/lighting enhancements found in other versions of the remaster are not an improvement. They made the game look too clean and only hurt the game's identity/charm/grittiness. I'm not the only one who thinks so; a lot of diehard DS Soulsborne fans thought the "enhancements" made the game look worse.
As for 60 FPS? It's the only thing I think the remaster really improved on besides QOL stuff, and a mostly stable 30 FPS is absolutely fine for the original Dark Souls seeing as it's a very slowly paced game. The framerate/resolution in the Switch version is better than in the original, and to me that's good enough. Especially since Blighttown doesn't chug so much. I actually like the area better than Lost Izalith now that it doesn't play like crap.
If you want to argue that the remaster in general was a lazy cash grab on ALL platforms I'll absolutely agree with you, but for people who want Dark Souls on their Switch for portability or to experience it for the first time, it definitely does the job.
The sound quality in general isn't very good, BUT it isn't unbearable like some of these guys have said. They weren't going to get the game anyway and needed a reason to tell others why they're wrong for buying it. I own Dark Souls: Prepare to Die edition on Steam and can notice the difference, especially when NPCs talk, but by no means does it ruin the entire game and I'm fairly certain we'll get a patch/optional audio download soon.
To newcomers, I recommend reading a brief spoiler free guide so you know what certain stats do/etc. I wouldn't recommend a full walkthrough unless you're really having trouble, because your first playthrough of this game is going to mysterious and magical.
So I've played for about two hours now, but before I head to bed I just want to say that the game runs well, looks good, and it's just so cool to have one of my all-time favorite games on one of my all-time favorite systems. It's definitely a good port and I can't wait for the servers to come online later so I can play with you guys tomorrow. The wait sucked, but it was worth it!
(B and A being switched for confirm/cancel was weird for like the first half hour, but I'm already used to it. It's really the only gripe that I have with the game and it's a very, very small one.)
1080p docked, 720p handheld. Don't drink Cobalt's kool-aid. Also, I was the first to complain about the reported audio problems here, but after playing the game, I can assure you that it's barely noticeable at all, and you really have to listen for it. It's getting patched anyway. The original Dark Souls is a masterpiece, of course it's going to be rated highly.
Also, From Software didn't port this version to the Switch.
Sweet, I'm in! I'm having trouble getting online though, it's telling me that I failed to load the latest calibrations or whatever. Did you run into that issue as well?
Same, Casltevania is one of my top five game franchises, and Bloodborne was the first Souls games that I got into because of the aesthetic. Now Soulsborne is even higher than Castlevania on my list. I would say that Dark Souls 1 has mostly good to great bosses, especially with the Artorias expansion.
Y'know, my hype for the Switch version died down quite a bit since it was delayed, but now that I've preordered the game, I'm getting more and more excited for it to hit midnight. Not just for me, but because I want to get my fiance to try a Souls game for the first time, and she's more likely to try it on my Switch than on my PC.
It looks okay, but I'd have done without the Diablo 3 logo as well. These things can't substitute official Pro controllers, and if I'm going third party, it'll be with 8bitdo.
8bitdo controllers are great, I'm glad to see them rising in popularity! I'll agree that the Pro controller's d pad isn't great, but it's definitely my favorite controller for most games since the 360.
Lmao, yeah they're definitely over compensating for something. Want to compare games on a console? Fine. But when you start talking about graphics and options and all of that but leave PC out of it because you know PC will win every time, that's just sad. I love Bloodborne and I'll probably go back to that game once a year for the next few years, but I haven't bought a PS4 yet because these modern consoles don't have any interesting gimmicks to set themselves apart. That's where the Switch comes in. Even if it didn't, though, I'm such a big fan of Nintendo games that I'd have readily bought a Wii U 2.
Yeah, I never thought I'd play an action/adventure game that rivals Zelda. I would definitely put them on the same level. Zelda to me still has puzzles going for it, but I'll give pretty much everything else to the Soulsborne series. Bloodborne is my favorite game in the past ten years, hands down. I don't own a PS4, I played it on my fiance's, but if anyone asked me what the best game on PS4 was, I'd say Bloodborne hands down. I really hope we get us a good, solid community for Dark Souls on Switch. It's so exciting to be there for the launch of the original Dark Souls, I didn't get into the series until Bloodborne and went back and played DS1, 2, and then 3 on PC.
You don't have an argument as to why PS4 is technically superior to a high-end PC. The only argument you can make is that PS4 has exclusive games. If you're going to be a graphics guy, at least be one on the best platform for it. PS4/Xbox One are bootleg PCs, that's all they are. Feel good because your Sony pony friends upvoted you if you must. Ignored.
Yeah I understand, I just didn't want to be lumped in with all of these Switch bashers who spend a ridiculous amount of time on a fansite that mostly covers a product they don't like. The Switch version sounds like the only non-PC version worth getting because of portability, and aside from the audio it sounds like they did quite a good job. I read usgamers review and apparently Bandai told the reviewer that the game is getting a day one patch, so that alleviates my fears. If you're getting it, I hope to see you in Lordran!
Oh by the way, there's a pretty credible rumor going around that Smash is going to have its own servers. This is really exciting to me, and as a big Smash player, if this is true it'll more than make up for the online service just being passable.
Eh, I think the service can be improved but at the same time I'm not going to get too mad when it's as cheap as it is. I'm sure features will be added and we'll start seeing SNES+ games in a few months.
