Re: Video: Ark: Survival Evolved Is A Blurry Mess On Nintendo Switch

@Triforce79

PC's don't become obsolete in two to three years, I really don't understand why people spread this misinformation. Do better PC components come out pretty regularly? Sure, but that goes for technology in general. I'd rather start with hardware on par or slightly more powerful than a PlayStation or Xbox, and have the option to make small improvements if I choose to . If I don't, I can rest easy knowing I'll have more powerful hardware than current gen until the next cycle. I don't really upgrade my PC but once every 5+ years, and it's usually little by little.

Re: Reggie: Third-Party Gaps In Switch Game Library Linked To Timing Of System Reveal

@Sinister

Unlocks/rewards are a form of progression, I should have been more specific. Face it, Overwatch didn't NEED loot boxes in the game and Activision Blizzard definitely had them in there to make a butt load of money, which they did. I'm personally not a fan of it, especially after about fourth prestige it takes way too long to level up and get these boxes, and they did that intentionally. They also made loot boxes sparse enough that unless you played the limited time events religiously, you might be worried you won't get all of the limited items and buy loot boxes at the end.

I'm not saying Overwatch isn't a great game, but Activision Blizzard definitely got greedy and made unlocking things not as fun as it could have been.

@Kienda

I'm impressed with both Sony and Microsoft's exclusive games, I do believe God of War deserves game of the year (played it in my fiance's PS4, probably not a game I'd replay though) and Nier Automata is a great game I bought on Steam (love platinum games). I liked Kingdom Hearts when I was younger, but boy the story has gotten convoluted and a bit daft. As for Overwatch, it's a great game that I feel is hurt by a lootbox based progression system. I don't really play competitive shooters though and if I did I'd play it on PC. This is the problem, here. Most worthwhile AAA games I play on PC (The Witcher 3), Sony and Microsoft just don't have the same strong stable of first party franchises that Nintendo has in my opinion. Bloodborne is one of my all time favorite games though, and if I wasn't able to play it on my fiance's PS4 I probably would have bought one just for it.

Re: Reggie: Third-Party Gaps In Switch Game Library Linked To Timing Of System Reveal

Frenean

If I can be totally honest here, PC/PS4/XBONE can keep the Ubisoft/EA/Activision Blizzard/2K Games. I know that throws most multi-platform AAA games out of the window, but I really don't care. As someone who owned a PS3/XBOX 360 last gen and whose fiance owns a PS4, I've really gotten tired of their uninspired, countless sequels that only grow more predatory and money hungry with each iteration. I game exclusively on my PC and Nintendo platforms and I don't look back. Aside from the odd game on PS4 (Bloodborne, Persona 5), this generation of consoles has shown me more than ever that more powerful hardware does not automatically make games more fun. With AAA games adopting the same in-game economies as free to play mobile games these days, I'll be happy if I don't see another game like that on the Switch until this industry gets its act together.

Re: Video: SNES Classic Runs PSone Games Better Than The PlayStation Classic

Frenean

I would laugh if I wasn't genuinely disappointed in the PS Classic. I preferred the SNES and N64 over the original PlayStation back in the day, but it still had some quality games that you just don't have access to with the PS Classic. It's pathetic that Sony's competition can run their games better on the same type of legacy mini console they stole the idea from.

Re: Reggie: Don't Expect Nintendo Switch Online To "Mirror" The Competition

Frenean

@Malcrash

Dude, you and everyone else crying for dedicated servers really need to get it through your head that MOST games, unless they're always online/MMO type games, don't have dedicated servers. Microsoft is the only company out of the three to give their first party games dedicated servers, and that's only some of them that are online focused.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't like dedicated servers, but people keep acting like Nintendo should be the only console manufacturer/publisher/developer to prioritize dedicated servers across all of their games, and that being with an online membership that is 1/3rd the price of their competition. I really don't get it.

Edit: also, Smash online isn't laggy sometimes because it isn't on dedicated servers, it's laggy because 1.) Whoever lead development for the online component didn't think to add in filters so that you only play with people in your region/play with people with a good connection and 2.) The net code is only okay. Net code is way more important in a fighting game than having dedicated servers. That being said, I've had a pretty decent experience with Smash online after the launch day (which was TERRIBLE)

@jarvismp

I agree, I have never believed that you should only base your purchases off of reviews. I do disagree, however, with people blaming his issues with performance on having a faulty Switch. All too often I'll see people who bought games that have performance issues saying that the game doesn't have them or that they've never experienced issues so it's irrelevant. Bethesda fans were so hostile and retaliatory to critics who brought up Skyrim's various technical issues, some even threatening the reviewer with death. To this day, a lot of bugs haven't been fixed in Skyrim. I love the game, but am not so blind to dismiss critics when they bring them up because they are most obviously there. I've seen a lot of people complaining that Gear Club has performance issues, not just scully.

Re: Review: Gear.Club Unlimited 2 - Sluggish Controls Force This Real-World Racer Off The Track

Frenean

@Rayquaza2510

So do all the people complaining about the performance issues with this game have faulty Switches? Are the people who believe the price for a mediocre game like this is ludicrous wrong in their opinion? Believe me, I've liked mediocre games and movies more than critics, but I don't go telling them they're wrong and that people shouldn't listen to them. There's a reason why most people pay more attention to critic reviews than user reviews. I'd rather listen to someone be objective and critical about a game than someone else giving a game a 0/10 because it isn't on the platform of their choice.

Re: Review: Gear.Club Unlimited 2 - Sluggish Controls Force This Real-World Racer Off The Track

Frenean

@scully1888

Don't worry about it man, people who already bought this game are only here because of confirmation bias, and they feel the need to defend their purchase.

If you bought and like this game, great, I'm genuinely happy for you. The game is getting mixed to negative reviews from a lot of outlets, not just on NLife. As @CartoonDan said, check YouTube and you'll see that scully isn't alone in his criticism.

Re: Rumour: Joker In Smash Bros. Ultimate Triggers Speculation That Persona 5 Is Coming To Switch

Frenean

@Jriibz

I'll take that trade off! Please please PLEASE let this rumor be true, I have zero problem double dipping. The best (in my opinion) JRPG in years. If it doesn't come to Switch, though, I really recommend you guys find a PS4 on sale for Persona 5 and Bloodborne. Tbh I believe they're the only two exclusives really worth it, but worth it they are because they're some of my favorite games of all time.

Re: Warframe Now Has One Million Players On Nintendo Switch

Frenean

@Aurumonado

^ This, I'm wondering if they're just going off downloads or going by the game's regular players. Not knocking the game, but I only installed it and played a couple of times before I got bored. It looks and runs nice, and I respect the game for what it's trying to be, but I'm not really into grindy games outside of a select few such as Diablo 3 and I can't help but be turned off by the free to play economy. Even if it does do it better than other f2p games, microtransactions always lessen my enjoyment.

Also, I'm not going to be playing anything besides Smash for the next few months, so there's that.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

Frenean

@AlternateButtons

Fair enough! Captain Falcon has been my go-to for the past couple of games, but I'm probably going with Simon, Young Link, and Pikachu. I've heard the latter two are top tier in Ultimate, but I'm going to have to get some hands-on time with everyone to see how I like them. Hopefully Zelda is viable this time around, I love the Link Between Worlds design and she's my fiance's main.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

Frenean

@AlternateButtons

The score is not the entire conclusion. You're literally arguing that a review's score is more important than the actual written review, which is ludicrous. Do you not know how professional critical journalism works? Take IGN (a well that's so easy to go back to) for example. They published and scored their review even though they haven't been able to play online yet. THAT'S misleading.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

Frenean

@the8thark

IGN's reviews are never worth reading. They showered Black Ops 4 with praise before microtransactions were added, even though it was obvious with how terribly grindy Blackout is that they would be implemented in the future. They're part of the GameStop/microtransaction/pre-order culture that is plaguing the videogame industry. (Still watch Nintendo Voice Chat on YouTube, though)

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

Frenean

@UmbreonsPapa

It did! I assumed he clicked on the article and scrolled as fast as possible down to where the score usually is, so I didn't say anything about it. I doubt very seriously that the guy read the review, but that's par for the course for these kinds of dudes. The ones you'd find in IGN's comment section, who don't even read the reviews/articles and just comment based off of what score was given. The kind of dudes who threw around terms like SJW so frequently that the mods had to ban it.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

Frenean

@AlternateButtons

This review is like a 3-4 minute read. It bothers you so much that you're going to stop frequenting the site because you lost a few minutes of time? Maybe that'd be best, it's ironic that (read your comment history) you throw around 12 year old YouTube commenter terms like "soy boy", "SJW", and "PC culture", but are whining about having to read a review. I'm not going to bother trying to make you understand how NLife actually has your best interests at heart by not misleading you with a score for a game they haven't fully reviewed yet. You're a lost cause.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

Frenean

@AlternateButtons

"Online performance is another matter however, as at the time of writing the functionality simply isn't active. From what Nintendo has said it all seems promising, but you can be sure we'll be updating this review whichever way it swings when it's finally available."

They literally say that they'll be updating the review near where you'd normally see the score. What's dishonest about that? From what I've gathered about you, you probably scrolled down to see the score before even reading the review, so you saw that they said they were going to update it even before I did. As others have explained to you previously, it would be misleading to give the game a score when they haven't been able to review all of its components.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

Frenean

@Dissident

I don't get him. He doesn't care about the online multiplayer, but is upset that the review isn't finished because of that. The idea that a one point difference in score is such an upsetting prospect for him is a bit odd. This review reads like an easy 10, but if it gets bumped to a 9 because of a less-than-stellar online component, why should it matter to him? He says he doesn't care about online, so it would be a 10 right?

Unless he's some kind of fanboy who cares more about critic scores/opinions than his own so that he can brag about it.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

Frenean

@AlternateButtons

I agree that reviewers should do that, but I don't know if it's a complication with Metacritic/Rotten Tomatoes. A lot of times you'll see journalists try and get their scores up as fast as possible for these aggregate sites and I think it's misleading, especially in this day and age where you can't be expected a complete game when you purchase it. I've gotta say, I respect NLife and their integrity on this subject, even if the online component being good or bad is irrelevant to my enjoyment of the game.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - The Absolute Pinnacle Of Nintendo's Fighting Series

Frenean

@AlternateButtons

Why do people care so much about the score anyway? Would you prefer they do what other sites did for Black Ops 4 and Red Dead 2, and give the game a perfect score before they find out the online sucks (Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Online both ruining their progression to sell microtransactions but waiting to put those in the game until after critics praise them)?

I don't personally care about online, this game reads like a 10/10 for me and I'm so glad that I'm not working today because all I can think about is Smash.
