Re: Talking Point: What Would You Like To See From The Animal Crossing Direct?

FarsanBaloo

★ Ability to change the music to play older AC game music.
★ Ability to make the grass deteriorate when walking on it.
★ Ability to choose when the shop is open.
★ Ability to make another island, and for family members to have individual islands.
★ More stuff (inspiration: Pocket Camp)
★ Interactive stuff (inspiration: Pocket Camp)
★ Ability to skip Isabelles monologue at startup.
★ Gyroids, Kapp'n, Resetti, Tortimer...
★ A lot more and different fruits and vegetables and mushrooms and nuts...
★ Ability to invite animals to activities.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Quirky Creativity Hasn't Always Paid Off On Switch, But It Matters

FarsanBaloo

Many times you get absolutely flabbergasted with Nintendos "stupid" decisions and their unwillingness to follow what is considered "normal": like a good online functionality, HD-graphics, lower game prices, "high end" hardware...
Other times you wonder if Nintendo is the only force that keeps gaming to become something only for Bro Gamers.
Would there be a Portal if not for Nintendos use of "simple" graphics?
Would there be a Sack Boy, a Borderlands, a Rocket League, an Overwatch, a Fortnite, a Cuphead, a Ratchet & Clank, an Astro Bot without Nintendo?
Or would everything be dark and grey and brown and "realistic" and filled with guns?

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Nintendo Direct At E3 2021?

FarsanBaloo

The E3 Direct was quite good.
The question still remains:
What are all the developers doing now when they only have one platform to develop for?
During the WiiU years Nintendo released more than 20 original games (+ a lot of 3DS games).
For the Switch there are a lot of ports (I do not complain despite having most of them on The WiiU) and only a few games that has used big resources.

Re: Random: What's Happened To Bayonetta 3, Platinum?

FarsanBaloo

Despite what fans think this is not a very big game (in sales numbers).
"While sales have not been fully disclosed, by March 2018, Nintendo confirmed the Switch version [of Bayonetta 2] had sold 400,000 copies during its first nine weeks, compared to the 300,000 copies the Wii U version sold during the same period."
It is a game that rely on the "wow"-factor and it is probably hard to make something that is bigger, better, bolder than the last game with its Plane-Train-Skyscraper-introduction.
The 1% of the Switch player base that will buy this are very passionate but it will not make Platinum or Nintendo enormously rich.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Next Update Arrives Later This Week

FarsanBaloo

@pinta_vodki
They could taket inspiration from the work of the staff behind the mobile game AC Pocket Camp.
Almost four years after it launched they still produce new stuff: clothes, furniture, environments, animals and even things that the animals interact with. There is a mini Happy Homes game, a gardening game, a gyroid hunt game , fortune cookies and more.
Yes, that IS how they make money but it is not close to how much money AC:NH is making.
I have played it on and off over the years without paying anything and obtaining almost everything there is.

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons A Year Later?

FarsanBaloo

@Mii_duck
I am a dedicated Animal Crossing fan since the GC.
I also feel that AC:NH does not do for me what earlier games have done.
I am happy AC:NH was a hit and that it has reached people who has not played any of the old games.
But for me it was one of the weakest.
Stoped playing ten months ago.
Only go there again briefly when there is news on new content.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Majora's Mask Is A Testament To What Nintendo Is Capable Of When It Gets Weird

FarsanBaloo

Maybe it is an age thing?
I was already 40+ when I played MM.
To me it was just DLC to OoT.
Smaller, simpler and not really worth the full price of a new game.
One year before I had nearly vowed to never buy a game again (to my three teenage boys) after the stupidly expensive DK64 + memory expansion pak.
In this context MM looked like a cash grab.

PS: I love OoT, WW and BotW more than the other Zelda games.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Super Mario Update Arrives This March

FarsanBaloo

I think they could get some help from the team that makes AC Pocket Camp.
They deliver new stuff all the time.
Many things are semi-interactive, where the animals can ride Merry-Go-Rounds, Ferris Wheels and skateboard ramps.
There are flower planting games, Happy Home Designer games and more.
You can decide, and change anytime, which animals should be permanent villagers.
You can change the terrain, from tropical to snow to spooky, and more.
You have interactions with other players that makes the game more alive.
When I played Pocket Camp the first time I was anticipaiting at least as much from New Horizons.
I have played all AC games since GameCube and I am quite disappointed with NH.

Re: Soapbox: I Never Completed Breath Of The Wild, And I Never Will

FarsanBaloo

I was +30 years when I bought Super Mario Bros 3 to my children (I am +60 now).
That could have been the last time i played a game to the end (my children were to young to be able to make it by their own)
Since then my children became better in playing games and my dexterity has deteriorated.

I have played all Zelda games up until the final boss.

...and as the article says - there is never anything spectacular to see after you beat the final boss.

Re: Nintendo's Doug Bowser Discusses The Future Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons

FarsanBaloo

I have played all Animal Crossing games (The GC game with a NTSC+Freeloader combo).
I highly anticipated the WiiU Animal Crossing game that never came (it would have been marvelous with the Miiverse connection).
As Pocket Camp came I thought it was a very good effort for a mobile game and I thought that many of its new features would cary over to New Horizon.
Instead New Horizon deleted a lot of old mechanics and gave me the most disapointing entry in the series.
With AC:NH the only new things we got were essentielly world manipulation, outdoor decorating and multiple houses.
I was anticipating to play New Horizons for more than a year but quit after just a couple of months.
Pocket Camp gets more play time!

I agree with MidnightLaces.

Re: Animal Crossing Devs Reveal How Long New Horizons Has Been In Development

FarsanBaloo

And during all that time they probably did not once consider a volume control so it would be possible to turn the sound effects down. They are way too frequent and way too loud.
Even Pocket Camp has volume options (sound effects on or off)

I was also waiting for a AC on WiiU.
There was the Animal Crossing Plaza, AC Amiibos and frequent teases.
Miiverse would have been so perfect for Animal Crossing!

Re: Mini Review: Oddmar - An Acclaimed Mobile Platformer That Just About Holds Its Own On Switch

FarsanBaloo

According to howlongtobeat.com Oddamar is about five hours long.
Shantae is a few hours longer and Rayman & DKC is more than twice as long.
Oddamar on mobile was "FreeToStart" with the first few stages free. After that it had the same payment modell as Mario Run.

The developer, Mobge, is a five people from Turkey that probably went mobile to reduce cost.
As we know from the high profile game Mario Run (a fraction of the people who downloaded it continued forward after the "FreeToStart" part ended) this payment model is not well recieved on mobile.

$10 for 5 hours play it seems Oddamar is a good proposition for Switch gamers (if you buy a Switch you probably know you have to pay upfront for every game and selldom get stuff for free).

Nintendo is the exception.

Re: Mercedes Arrives in Super Mario Maker With a Course and Mystery Mushroom Outfit

FarsanBaloo

Nintendo are the only ones in the gaming industry that got it right.
Carmakers (and other corporations) pay NBA, NHL, FIFA etc to get their advertisement to sports events. They pay movie producers to get their stuff in movies. They pay celebrities to pose with their products.
Gamemakers on the other hand pay Carmakers, NBA, NHL, FIFA (and other corporations) to be able to use their products and logos in games. Gamemakers even pay gun producers to use their guns in CoD and other FPS.

Wayback machine is cool when you want to go back in internet time!
A new site, as nintendolife was, got recorded just a month after it started!

Also: Happy birthday - soon your site will become a teenager (and starts to want "mature" games)

Jack Thompson Files First Video Game Lawsuit
Anti-video games activist and attorney Jack Thompson files the first of what are to be a large number of lawsuits claiming video games are responsible for violence perpetrated by teens. The lawsuit is filed on behalf of the parents of three children killed in the Heath High School shooting in 1997. Investigations show that the perpetrator had regularly played various computer games (including Doom, Quake, Castle Wolfenstein, Redneck Rampage, Nightmare Creatures, MechWarrior, and Resident Evil).
Said Thompson, "We intend to hurt Hollywood. We intend to hurt the video game industry"

Tim: Honestly, a little time before that, everyone began going their own separate ways. We were very eager to leave as well.
Chris: Then they gave us a bunch of money.
Tim: Yes they did.
Play4Real: How was your time at Microsoft?
Tim: Dreadful. Utterly dreadful.
Chris: Since most of the original staff had left, the remaining team tried to pull together like the old days.
Tim: It did not work."

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Approach to amiibo is Increasingly Frustrating

In 2½ years Activision sold 175 million Skylanders toys (that is almost 6 million a month).
in 6 months Nintendo managed to sell 10,5 million amiibos (that is less than 2 million a month).

Re: Feature: Ten Must-Play Games for the Nintendo 3DS

FarsanBaloo

@edgedino
Anyone know if Kid Icarus is taking advantage of the new C-stick?
I have not bought Kid Icarus for two reasons that the new3DS hopefully makes easier:

  • I have a hard time keeping the 3D "sweet spot" especially in action games.
  • I have read about the difficult control of the game (with the stylus)
Will this be better with new3DS?
