Re: Masahiro Sakurai Praises the Achievements of Steam, Isn't Content With Other Download Services

I do have a hard time understanding the economy behind humble-bundles.
5 - 10 games get to share around 1 - 2 million dollars.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Humble_Bundles
That would make around $400,000 - $100,000 per game.
If you sell a game on eshop for $10 you only have to sell 10,000 - 40,000 copies to get same amount of money. That is about 1 - 4 ‰ (per mille) of the WiiU owners.
(Disregarding all aspect of fees, taxes and other economic things involved)

@Yorumi
Yes it is a problem when Nintendo has to be reminded by their stockholders to use the gamepad - that is why we will see Captain Toad, Mario Maker, Kirby, Mario vs Donkey Kong, as well as Starfox cockpit screen, Devil's Third map editor, extended use of gamepad for Xenoblade and Splatoon. Probably something will be made for Zelda too.

@Yorumi
A common estimation of the gamepad cost is $80 (wich would be surprising as it would mean half of what the Wii U console costs).
http://www.destructoid.com/cnn-estimates-the-cost-of-wii-u-s-parts-to-be-228-249435.phtml
The regular controller that would replace the gamepad cost about $15.
http://www.totalxbox.com/67117/xbox-ones-kinect-costs-75-to-manufacture-controller-costs-15-report/
That would leave you with the savings of $65 for a slightly better console than PS3/X360 with nothing grabbing the attention of customers except Nintendo games. That is pretty much the cost of a free game that is included.

Re: Ubisoft Makes Little Mention of Nintendo in Plans for Financial Year, Sales Show Why

FarsanBaloo

Just Dance has sold about 47 million copies trough the years - 40 million of these on the Wii.
Assassin's Creed ha sol about 59 million copies trough the years - 25 mil. on X360 and 25 mil. on PS3.

Going trough VGChaartz database you can see Ubosoft has sold trough the years 1/4 to MS, 1/4 to Sony and more than 1/3 to Nintendo. Nintendo owners mostly buying cheap casual games.

Re: Feature: Kickstarter's Wii U and 3DS Campaigns - 27th April

FarsanBaloo

Tom Sparks calculate $40 000 for porting to XOne/PS4 and after doing this an additional $10 000 to port further to Wii U.
So it seems as if it is needed $10 000 - $25 000 to make a Wii U port.

Conclusion: So make kick-starter projects for porting your favorite games to the console of your choice and ask for $25 000.

One more calculation: Renegade Kid budgeted that to develop Cult County for Steam (PC, Mac & Linux), Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS they needed $580 000 over 12 months. That is $48 000 a month. There are at least three people working at renegade Kid. (Categorized under Cartoon Motion Picture Production. Our records show it was established in 2007 and incorporated in Texas. Current estimates show this company has an annual revenue of 120000 and employs a staff of approximately 2. Google it!)
They have not specified how much the different platforms cost but for a Xbox360 port they need an additional $40 000 ($3 333 a month for a year).

Re: Feature: Kickstarter's Wii U and 3DS Campaigns - 27th April

Popup Dungeon consists of three people (family). They want $80 000 over two years to develop the game for PC, Mac, and Linux. That is $3 333 a month that have to support at least two of the family members, one is working a paid job.
"My dream is to make her dream a reality — to let her work 10-12 hours, 7 days a week like we do, but on something that makes her proud, happy, and takes full advantage of her talents. And hopefully, we'll be able to afford a home of our own after Popup Dungeon's release, so we can raise a family."
They only want $10 000 more to make a Wii U port. That is about three months of extra work.
I hope they make it trough these two years with the money they get from kickstarter.

@JaxonH
Looking at these budget it seems they calculate a Wii U port to be difficult.
For the development of Source for PS4/XOne/PC they want $50 000 over a period of 15 months (that's only $3 333 a month). To make the Wii U port they want additional $25 000, with simultaneous release. That means if you got one person working 15 months to do the game it requires one person working 7½ month to port it to Wii U.
Hover is planned for PC/Mac/Linux, XboxOne/PS4. They need $38 000 over 12 months ($3 166 a month). To make the Wii U port they want an additional $20 000, with simultaneous release.

First of all it is shocking to see how little pay they get for the development. Hopefully they will get some more when the game is ready.
Secondly it is intriguing to see how much work they calculate the Wii U port requires.

Re: Mobot Studios Is Bringing iOS Hit Gears To Wii U This Spring

FarsanBaloo

@element187
The reason is probably more that iOS has a lot of "shovelware" that competes with " good" indie games. To sell a good game at "full" prize there you need a lot of hype.
On Wii U everyone is starved for games at all so it is easier to charge more.

The conclusion for me is that if I wait a month or two I can buy the game for half the starting prize.

Re: Nintendo of America Launches eShop Indie Website

FarsanBaloo

Nintendo! How about making it possible to watch game-clips on the Wii U gamepad, remember that you have a perfectly good web browser in your new console. "You need to have Adobe Flash player to view this content". Did the marketing people really forget that Wii U does not support Flash?
The same goes for the 3DS, Why can I not see promotion for 3D games in 3D?

Re: Talking Point: The Watch_Dogs Wii U Delay Demonstrates That Major Third-Parties Are Walking Away

FarsanBaloo

An "attach ratio" of ten games during a consoles lifetime is generally considerd as good. With only one and a half year on the market Wii U has allready enough critically acclaimed first and second party games to let everyone achieve this ratio. And still the biggest first party games are still to come. It may not be sufficient for boys between 15 and 30 and that is what all these dicussions are all about.
