With the start of a fresh week comes the European Nintendo Download Update details. This week brings a relatively rare case of cross platform retail release action, with two versions of a Yuji Naka title that some have been rather looking forward to. Beyond that we have some light-hearted offerings on both eShop stores, DLC, discounts and some handsome SEGA 3DS HOME Themes. Let's get to the details.
Wii U eShop
Word Party (Lightwood Games, €12.79 / £11.99 until 26th November, then €15.99 / £14.99) - This series of 28 minigames accommodates up to five players at once - using Wii Remotes and the GamePad - and plays around with various wordy premises. There are crosswords and word searches, of course, but also quirky minigames such as "Whack-A-Vowel" and "Space Blaster". We had a brief play of this at EGX in September and found ourselves having quite a lot of fun; we'll bring you a review soon.
Wii U Retail Download
Rodea the Sky Soldier (NIS America, €49.99 / £39.99) - After a long time waiting this Yuji Naka title - or at least it was in its original guise - is finally on the way. It's been delayed a few times and was a commercial flop in Japan, yet we had fun with it when we got to play it earlier in the year. We're taking flight to bring you a review soon.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Affordable Space Adventures (KnapNok Games, €15.00 / £13.50 until 26th November, normally €18.99 / £16.99)
Roving Rogue (Padaone Games, €5.99 / £5.39 until 26th November, normally €7.99 / £7.19)
Rock 'N Racing Off Road DX (EnjoyUp Games, €4.95/ £4.45 until 10th December, normally €7.99 / £7.19)
Wii U eShop Permanent Price Drop
Canvaleon (OXiAB Game Studio, €9.95 / £8.99, was previously €13.95 / £12.59)
Wii U Demo
Word Party (Lightwood Games, free)
3DS eShop
Family Bowling 3D (Arc System Works, €4.99 / £4.49) — Arc System Works continues its Family range of games, allowing up to four players to take each other on in multiple modes, while solo bowlers can also take on some challenges. We reviewed the North American release over two years ago and thought it was rather good.
3DS Retail Downloads
Rodea the Sky Soldier (NIS America, €39.99 / £34.99) - The portable version of this title could provide a nice alternative for those seeking fast-paced action on the go.
Hello Kitty & Friends: Rockin' World Tour (Bergsala Lightweight, €29.99 / £24.99) - Available from 13th November.
Horse Life 4 (Ravenscourt, €39.99 / £34.99)
3DS DLC
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2: Addonetarium (NIS America, €0.99 / £0.89) - Available from 13th November.
3DS HOME Themes
SEGA Game Gear Theme (SEGA, €1.79 / £1.59)
SEGA Mark III Theme (SEGA, €1.79 / £1.59)
SEGA Master System Theme (SEGA, €1.79 / £1.59)
SEGA MEGA DRIVE Theme (SEGA, €1.79 / £1.59)
Barbie (Mattel, €1.49 / £1.39)
Monster High (Mattel, €1.49 / £1.39)
Hot Wheels (Mattel, €1.49 / £1.39)
That's everything for this week's Nintendo Download Update in Europe - let us know what you plan to pick up in the poll and comments below.

That's it?
No Rodea Wii VC that will be released exclusively for the first two months for those who buy the Wii U eShop version?
A week of nothing again, this is getting common...
Announce that Direct already Nintendo.
I'll probably get that megadrive theme if it's any good.
I had Rodea preodered since April, and now it's finally releasing. Too bad I have to wait for quite a while longer, because postage from UK takes it's time.
Fallout has my money this week, however, may soon get Rodea, if it reviews well and I can get the Wii copy as well. Can definitely recommend Affordable at the more affordable price... Was worth it before but great value for what I would argue is one of the most WiiU unique games and a great co-op adventure.
Physical Rodea for moi
No Wii U VC tells me a Direct is coming this week.
All the SEGA themes will be bought!
YES!
Speaking of Sega and eShop... I reaaaally want them to bring that NiGHTS HD game out for Wii U some day. Very doubtful at this point though.
Haha, I've got to get that Master System theme
I was interested in Rodea (3DS) since the new release announcement so I will buy it in a supermarket since it costs less than a stupid console-based download and I always enjoy more a game that I really own.
Those Sega themes look awesome. I'll get them all. But where are the Saturn and Dreamcast themes?
Ummm... nothing. (I'd like a SEGA theme, honestly, but I'd like lots of themes and they're all too expensive imo, so no. No thanks.)
I highly recommend Affordable Space Adventures. A great and unique experience, dark atmosphere, fun gameplay. One of the best indie games and best co-op experience since Portal 2.
I'll probably get Affordable Space Adventures.
The discount is minimal, but enough to give me that final impulse. ;-]
After watching the gameplay footage of Rodea on the NL-channel, I will probably never get that game. I was pretty surprised how poorly executed it looked after the preview was pretty nice.
Still going to read the review to be sure, but it just didn't catch my eye so far...
Come on Nintendo. Where are these "unanounced" Wii u games that apparently are coming before xmas? Tell us already!
What even is this?
I'll be getting Rodea the Sky Soldier for Wii U, although I'll be getting it physically. I've had it pre-ordered for a long while; that Wii version also being included was a bonus I wasn't going to let pass me by.
Whether I'll be able to play the game the week I get it though; that is the true question. My younger brother seems adamant that the gaming room is going to become a Fallout 4 exclusive zone for many days to come. Luckily I plan to test out the Wii U version of Rodea first, so I can play it on the Gamepad as he uses the TV... so long as he doesn't strap the Gamepad to his arm so he can pretend to dual wield pip-boys.
ASA for me, the rest can wait. Would have bought PictoParty too, if they released it in EU.
@Marshi There might not be any. This was misreported.
@OorWullie Wii U VC seems to hit every other week for a while now. So you probably will be disappointed.
@arronishere
Get it, it's excellent.
I'll probably go for Affordable Space Adventures, although the price is still steep for a game at a discount. It's not a bad week but I'm sure getting tired of these 20% and 25% discounts, especially when on PSN you usually see 50% to 80%.
Roving Rogue, I would have bought for half its price, but at just €2 off I almost feel like I'm not getting any discount at all.
@Andyliini Can't you buy it in Finland?
I voted for Hello Kitty b/c it's Hello Kitty so she deserves if for being the original Kardashian - famous for being famous - but will consider ASA. Not just b/c of the price drop, but b/c of the update in the other post which I actually haven't read yet.
I hope when Club Nintendo reopens in August or November, whenever Nintendo feels like getting around to it, we get some type of acknowledgement for all the games we've been buying in the meantime.
I've definitely got to get those SEGA 3DS themes. The only other thing I'm interested in is Rodea. But I'll be getting the physical versions of that.
I'll be buying Affordable Space Adventures this week, that's for sure. For months I've been thinking about buying this game which makes great use of the Gamepad. Now with this minimal discount and the upcoming new content, I just can't say "Later" anymore.
Another crappy week. Rodea is going to crash and burn. They want €50 for what is essentially a years old Wii game? Good luck with that. And it's not brilliant either by all accounts.
I'll buy Affordable Space Adventures when it hits a realistic price. Even with the minimal discount, €15 is still way too much.
I loves me a demo so I'll grab that. Otherwise it's only affordable space adventures I want and I can't afford it right now so nothing for me
Let the Direct rumors fly...........
@Barbiegurl777 Those theme are getting released in Europe / Australia this Thursday. Most likely those themes (I'm guessing you want the Barbie one? ) will be released this Thursday for the USA as well or at a later time this year.
@OorWullie or it is like the 3DS virtual console dead.Redeo why no cross buy.
@RadioShadow or 2017 how slow NOA is.
It's very odd how Nintendo have not loaded the EShop heavier in the lack of first party releases this Christmas.
I'm awaiting a rodea review as they said above it was a massive fail in Japan.
I know everyone is screaming for a direct at the moment and in pyshical weeks til Christmas terms they would need to be penciling one in this week or next. But I ask the question to myself based on speculation that they may announce twilight and each time my answer is the same. I'm not really interested in replaying this title nor adding a third version to the collection.
As for 2016 I think I'll be asking Santa for cash so I can survive the onslaught.
Wii u/3ds/NX starfox, zelda, pikmin, retro, mario Galaxyish, explorers, fire emblem fate, shinXfire, total outlay £1000
@rjejr Here's the NA Nintendo mall tour you were wondering whether it would exist or not.
http://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-shows-off-the-must-have-games-of-the-holiday-season-at-malls-across-the-u-s/
@Grumblevolcano Hey thanks, appreciate it. I always thought it started earlier in Nov but looking for more info on this it does seem like Nintendo only announces it in early Nov to start around Thanskgiving, so at least they are consistent w/ that.
My computer died so I'm working off of an 8 year old laptop while I wait for a new motherboard to come in the mail. It's a slog.
I'm still holding out hope for an ND this week, maybe they can announce the mall tour, and a Wii U price drop. I think GMaestop lisitng it for $279 BF w/o saying - $299 on sale for $279 like they did w/ X1 adn PS4 - is telling. (Thats a reply to a post in another thread BTW, sorry for that weird juxtaposition.)
Had Rodea Wii U LE pre-ordered since April. Annoyed that NISA said the LE was exclusive to their site, then Nintendo sold it on their site without the £5 delivery charge!
Didn't think there'd be a lot of people getting this (60% 'nothing for me this week'). Rodea is a pretty good game, you should check it out.
I might pick up Hogan's Alley, but Word Party could be fun...
Shame no eshop games as there was really nothing on that leaked VC list that I'm inclined to think is real. Have been looking forward to Rodea for ages, it's been pre-ordered since it was available - I just hope the gameplay feels elegant and it has some unexpected quirks, it's a good looking package anyway.
@ spizzamarozzi
You get 50-80% discount on the eShop. But this game is not old. 50% would be ridiculous. It is totally worth 20 bucks. And there is also free DLC coming this week.
@Sligeach
This attitude - to wait till the price drops heavy - will kill many devs/indies. You want something unique, high quality and something that is made for the hardware? Than you have to pay a bit more but still a reasonable price. It's a shame to see a loss of value of so many great games after just a few weeks/month (on every system).
But well, Nintendo fans... They don't want to pay for quality if it's not made by Nintendo. They rather bye 20-30 years old games for 5-10 bucks instead of new ones...
I would love to try Rodea, but not at that price. Probably not even at half that price.
Finally we get the Sega themes in Europe... I will get them all..
With all the great classic 3D Sega games on the 3DS, it almost feels like a SEGA console. And now even more, with these great SEGA themes!
Loving it
Dammit I was hoping for After Burner II and/or Out Run themes!
@Balki While I agree with your argument, your last phrase sounds very generalizing and on the verge of trolling, really. I think with the poor userbase the WiiU has, it's doing pretty well on most indie titles, confirmed by the fact new titles are still being developed for it.
3DS home menu themes should not be more than £2 in my opinion.
Would love to say Rodea the Sky Soldier (3ds) but still on the fence after watching videos & trailers for it online, despite being pretty excited for it eariler on in the year. A demo would certainly help but will now probably wait til after Xmas if I do decide to pick it up.
Wii U & GC backlog will keep me busy for a good while anyway, not to mention RotTR too.
SEGA's making more themes than games -_-
Nothing for me this week, again. Affordable Space Adventure is tempting with the update coming up.
WOW! IT'S SO QUIET THIS WEEK ONE WOULD THINK A DIRECT IS COMING!
>.>
<.<
O.O
@scamander Not really, as the special edition is exclusive to NISA Store.
Physical limited edition of Rodea.
@Balki I'm not saying Affordable Space Adventures isn't worth the 20 bucks. I'm saying I can't afford it at the moment. If I had a better job, no house taxes and no car insurance, I would have bought it already.
We've entered a new age of lunaticism: people criticizing other people because they don't spend enough on games.
Family Bowling for me. Love bowling games 😎
@JoakimZ me too! Does anyone know the theme music? The Alex Kidd theme song would be great!
Affordable Space Adventures. Maybe...
... I'll be re-reading a few reviews before Thursday. £9.99 and I'd be in, but I bought Stealth Inc. 2 full price and almost immediately regretted it.
Rodea for me this week
Word Party will be hillarious!
Especially with the family gathering holidays comng up.
If the reviews are good for Rodea I'll pick it up when its in the bargain bin. They have this crazy idea that I'm willing to pay 74.99CAD (before taxes) for this game and I'm not. I wouldn't even pay that much for 3D World which could very well be one of the best if not the best game on the system.
Seems to me that the closer we get to the holidays the crapier the Thursday updates get! And it's even worse in America!!
@joey302 I've got a feeling this is trend that's here to stay until late 2016.
Still on the fence on whether to get Rodea or not. Already preordered Sword Art Online: Lost Song for PS4, which will be released this friday. And next week it's Star Wars Battlefront, Amiibo Festival, plus all amiibos, and Ultra Smash. Yeah, I think I'm gonna pass on Rodea ... for now. Maybe for christmas or such.
