Don't see it happening, but if they did some specials, discounts, bundles, AND revive a couple more forgotten franchises they could have a slim chance. Mario RPG is a great example of a series that is being revived that could bring a nice bump in console sales. Kid Icarus, or a Earth Bound remake would be heavy hitters, maybe a Donkey Kong, Star Fox, or F-Zero too.
Battle Network was a bonkers test to see how well the brand is doing and it was a success, let's keep moving this goal post and test the 3D realm with Legends. With a massive overhaul in the controls department though.
Gravity Circuit is a must buy for me, Megaman and Ninja Gaiden had a baby, yes. Elypse looks cool, but it doesn't have its own identity wearing its Hollow Knight inspiration a little heavy, I'll pass.
Welp, we just barely started getting Digimon games again after years, looks like we probably won't get another. The last four anime have have already given localization the middle finger.
Sure it is, like an early build at this stage matters. Sure didn't help when Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite said the same thing just months before their own launches. Sega has a far worse track record either of them do when it comes to releasing half baked, buggy games.
@MostHandsieBoy Whether their games sale well or not Bandai Namco games objectively look far better than Pokemon games and have a better understanding of how to achieve an anime art style. Pokemon as a whole is marketed as anime in its art direction no matter what genre or medium its in, Gamefreak clearly doesn't have a grasp of how to achieve that in their 3D games and could benefit from any number of studios already achieving incredible anime styles. I've only suggest Bandai Namco because they have a very close working relationship with Nintendo.
@MostHandsieBoy The Pokemon games are in dire need of a better art direction, or better use of their assets in general. There's no reason environments and objects should look blurry because of low textures when Nintendo owns a large portion of the Pokemon Company and could actually teach them to make games look as clean and crisp as their first party titles.
You act as if Gamefreak doesn't have room to improve because they're already successful.
Sure wish Nintendo would call in a favor with Bandai Namco to teach Gamefreak how to achieve a proper anime art style.
This soft, edge lit, low res texture style is getting old quick.
I'll love and defend traditional Pokemon for life, but honestly I feel like Pokemon needs to evolve into more of an adventure game. Legends Arceus was a great step in that direction as it felt like our character was actually out in the field studying Pokemon, sneaking up, out smarting, and going toe to toe with them. I'd be disappointed to go back to our character being a literal walking sim again.
@Lizuka Oh yeah, I love Next Order, but it was a Vita game that was upscaled for PS4. I'd love to see a native console Digimon World game, ideally somewhere between Next Order and DW3.
I'd like to see them bring out a mode where building is set to the original values that they launched the very first season in. Back then building was much, much slower and wasn't a crutch, it was carefully thought out and strategic. Especially since building materials also took longer to collect.
I don't wanna be a downer, but that kind of growth can't be sustainable based on the games they've released and their reception. Happy for a sequel because I enjoyed my time with the first.
I don't see N64 ever coming really, the well of titles that console has that people actually want is very shallow, and even worse when a lot of the best titles are off the table like any Rare games, or expensive licenses like Rouge Squadron that Nintendo is for sure not going to pay for. It's most likely the reason we never got a N64 Classic.
GB/C and GBA have way more potential to bring in subscriptions, in terms of selection there are well over two thousand more titles to choose from with far more titles that fall in the top tier list range. They've also age far better than N64 titles, or that 3D generation in general, especially in the gameplay department.
@VoidofLight Not saying things aren't getting better, but those things are things that games, RPG's in particular, have had for decades and have been done way better for decades. We're not blind, we're just fed up with clear lack of talent on Gamefreaks part.
@roy130390 Stadium or any other 3D spinoffs weren't made by Gamefreak, that's why they're better. HAL Labs mostly just make Kirby games.
I just wish the games for a franchise that's worth $92 billion looked nicer, Gamefreak has a serious lacking in art direction for their games ever since they made the jump to 3D. Their animations is worse than a Bethesda game. The Switch isn't a powerhouse, I get that, but first party titles look next gen in comparison.
200+ years of copyright law and people are still surprised and offended when a company exercises their right to protect their property.
Edit: Also, this only happens when projects are conflicting with current soon to be releasing Nintendo properties. 99% of these fan projects go untouched until Nintendo see fan projects taking the spotlight from their official games.
I've given up hope on ever seeing my little dudes again. The fact that we haven't gotten at least a mobile cash in of them in all these years makes me really think that SEGA straight up hates them.
I haven't believed Nintendo denying existence of stuff their working on since the 3DS. Don't remember the specifics, but they said they had weren't making the XL or something like that then a couple days later made a full reveal.
After playing Balan it's obvious where the Sonic series went wrong.
He reminds me a lot of Masuda at Gamefreak, they've both had great ideas but in the end they have no clue what made those concepts great in the first place which results in making the most lack luster games.
Welp, sounds like we're not getting any meaningful upgrades to the Pokemon series with numbers like that.
Especially considering the Arceus game looks just as muddy and low poly as Sw/Sh. It's a shame that Pokemon is wasted on Gamefreak.
With all these Sonic fan games / engines releasing with some of the most incredible momentum based movement SEGA has a lot to live up to. The reason why Mario is so fun to run around with in all his 3D games is because he has weight that doesn't snap to a default pose when you let go of the stick and if you're skilled enough you can throw that weight around to reach places way beyond or above his traditional move set, 2D Sonic games had this same principal and it was lost moving to 3D.
As incredible as Gamepass is, been subscribed for years, it's very harmful to the industry. Microsoft is losing hundreds of millions if not billions a year with Gamepass and it's unsustainable for any other company than Microsoft who have hundreds of billions coming in from their other platforms and their government and military contracts. Sony and Nintendo can never compete with that business model and it's harms them from the eyes of spoiled consumers who are wondering why they aren't getting free* stuff like Xbox is.
Nintendo's innovate or nothing standpoint is hands down their greatest flaw. We love their franchises for what they are and would be happy with simple upgrades, but they force their developers to reimagine every game or else. Don't get me wrong, this view on game design made games like Breathe of the Wild possible, but smaller franchises like Star Fox, and Metroid have basically died because of this and shouldn't be held to the same standards.
@anoyonmus Not to discount how great the games are, but they are small projects handled by B teams. In the end it's not in Nintendo's character to buy a major studio. The same goes for Sony, but Microsoft is pushing their hand a little this generation. Microsoft being an American company with a bloated platform makes them less attractive if Square has a choice in the matter. Tencent also would be out because the Japanese aren't fans of the Chinese plain and simple.
I'd rather they remain independent, but Sony makes the most sense with all their already exclusive dealings with them. Nintendo would probably be the best because they share a creative spirit with Square Enix the other two don't have. Microsoft being the worst, I have nothing against them but their games post 360 have little to no soul, and their almost mandatory microtransactions that kinda put a damper on all their titles.
That trailer means nothing to Nintendo because the Japanese side of the trailer, and basically all videos related to Nintendo in Japan are an overall 98% positive in likes/dislikes. Nintendo doesn't make services for the world, they design them around Japanese lifestyles and the rest of the world just sorta gets to hang out too.
People tend to ignore the fact that rereleases don't make a lot of money because they're not multimillion sellers in the overwhelming majority of cases, and they're also sold very cheap. This was a smart move in a category that is ripe with failure and Nintendo found the formula to beat those odds. Mainly because they recognize how the market reacts to the release and rerelease of their titles, or how little they release and rerelease.
We're still the better part of a decade away from true AR, but Smart glasses are going to be fun to watch over the next few years. Smart Watches like the Oneplus Watch are finally starting to become more than just a novelty and Smart glasses will follow a similar uphill battle.
Junichi Masuda has done a lot for the Pokemon series and we should be forever grateful to him for that, but ever since the Let's Go games, and you can argue before that, he's been pushing the games further and further towards casual garbage. I'm a super casual Pokemon player with zero interest in training, breeding, and whatnot and I've been bored to tears starting with Sun and Moon.
