Massively popular Battle Royale title Fortnite is getting a 'no build' mode, according to a new leak.
The source is content creator and data miner HYPEX, who reports that the mode will only be available for a limited time.
Building is one of the keys mechanics in the game, but is often intimidating for newcomers. In fact, it's not unusual to see players ignoring the building system and instead totally focusing on the combat.
'Limited Time Modes' or 'LTMs' usually last for a week, and while they aren't permanent additions to the game, they do allow Epic Games to do some valuable testing and evaluation. If this mode does indeed happen and proves to be popular, it could be added as a fixed addition to the game.
Is this something you'd like to see in Fortnite? Let us know with a comment.

Building is the very reason I still haven't played fork knife. Perhaps this might be the time to give ir a go!
@Savage_Joe it’s really, really not a big deal. The mechanic wouldn’t be in the game if it wasn’t fun and didn’t add to the gameplay.
Funny enough, I just started getting back into fortnite, got the BP and everything, I'm still going to play the build mode because, well, its fun!
@MaxiPareja actually, it kinda is to some people, If you face a pro builder or even someone that is even "Good" with it, and you aren't, you might get messed up pretty bad, and this scares new players away from the game.
@Savage_Joe Same here. That, plus the fact that Fortnite seems to be the only game kids ever seem to play or talk about anymore.
"No Build"?
...!?!!
What about a "Relax, chill and build, without getting shot in the head" mode?
Personally, I haven't built much in my history of playing Fortnite. Even with custom controls for building, I'm probably never going to actually come down to building like crazy.
There is one problem with this mode, however. The amount of damage one sustains is still absurdly high.
@The_Pixel_King
The Switch version caps off at 30fps while the PS5 version caps off at 120fps (iirc). For a game like Fortnite, frame rate matters quite a lot - a few frames pretty much means the difference between life and death.
However, from personal experience, the abundance of "pro" players seems to have dropped significantly, so I think you'd be fine playing the Switch version. Nowadays, the Switch version can hold a very stable 30fps unlike at launch.
I don't build at all and I can still win. You just have to out play the builders. Having grenades or firefly jars on hand helps a lot.
When fighting builders, I've found a useful strategy is to just leave. I've won so many build battles by waiting for them to exhaust themselves and picking them off, OR finding the weakest part of the structure and causing fall damage.
Little too late for me. If they had this from the beginning then I might have played it. As it is I am not a fan of battle Royale games. Tried PUBG, Warzone and a few others and they are just not for me.
This would get me to actually play Fortnite. The build mode takes me out of the action real quick.
@Jayenkai That’s what Creative mode is for, just a fun sandbox
I remember my friends trying to get me to play this base-building, horde defense game. I wasn't into it. Years later I ask, "Hey, you guys still play Fortnite?" Then they start grumbling.
@MasterJay good to know. I might give it a second chance, then.
I think I only gave it about 5 minutes!!
The idea of building on the fly in a shooter is great. The way it works out in a game of Fortnite is thoroughly unappealing.
@MaxiPareja i once played Fartnite, just walking around getting to grips with the game, i saw a dude in the distance so i walked over to him, on my way over, a f*ucking dungeon appeared around me and i was suddenly his prisoner.
I noped the f*ck outta that game quick.
@MasterJay does fortnite still have "save the world" mode? Or did that morph into create/sandbox mode.
...or I could just ya know continue to not play Fortnite.😁
(people hopping on the cool anti Fortnite train intensifies)
I never built things and would routinely get in the top 5, if not win
@UglyCasanova Fortnite killed my wife and children
@HollowSpectre good for you.
This title is misleading at best. 90% of the people I face on fortnight can’t out gun me… I shoot them and they turn into a 12 story building. Noobs build and run. I don’t mind building to get places and creating cover, but when you get hit and your first instinct is to build a sky scraper, it makes no sense. There is a game for that… it’s called Minecraft. I’ve got tons of wins, I’m definitely no noob… but building is just a crutch for those who can’t hang when it come to gun play!
@Jayenkai sooooo Minecraft?
@MaddestViking If I wanted to make stuff with bland "pixel-blocks", I'd do something silly like drawing a pixelart every day for over 2,500 days.
Building is easily the worst aspect of the game anyways...
I despise Fortnight because of the building aspect of it. If they kept a no building mode permanent, I'd actually give it another go. As it is, watching someone build a shack around their partner in order to pick them up off the ground is just too silly. Not sure why it annoys me so much, but it does.
@Tasuki if there was one that wasn't paced like cold molasses, I'd give it another go, but that seems to be part of the genre. I can't stand the delay between a match starting and when you're actually doing something semi-interesting.
I'd like to see them bring out a mode where building is set to the original values that they launched the very first season in. Back then building was much, much slower and wasn't a crutch, it was carefully thought out and strategic. Especially since building materials also took longer to collect.
Finally! Been wanting this for a long time.
Still don't entirely understand the point of the building.
