Re: Assassin's Creed Movie Trailer Leaps Out Of The Shadows And Into The Spanish Inquisition

DoctorWily

@A01 I played the first one and it was terrible. The combat was slick but it was literally the most repetitive game I've ever played. Eavesdrop, pick a pocket, assassinate someone, climb a tower and jump off into a bale of hay. Repeat 8 more times. Game over. Even the upgrades added nothing new to the gameplay and the story was meh. I haven't touched the series since although I may give Black Flag a try if I can ever find the time for it. The fact that it's not a "traditional" Assassin's Creed game would be a good thing to me.

Re: Soapbox: Why Websites Don’t Need to Give a Game a Review Score (and Probably Shouldn’t)

DoctorWily

@shani Great comment. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I will say that I think companies basing their pay scale on Metacritic scores is ridiculous. If I worked at a company that slipped that into my contract, I'd probably start looking for a job that rewarded me for my effort and not for someone else's opinion. Sometimes games just don't achieve what the developers envisioned or set out to achieve. That doesn't mean that they didn't pour their heart and soul into the game. Creating a game like (insert your all-time favorite game here) isn't easy and when it comes to feeding your family, I don't think you should be penalized if the perfect game you envisioned didn't quite come together as planned, especially if we're measuring success based on that skewed graphic.

Re: Retail Executives and Analysts Voice Support For Nintendo's NX Release Window and Lack of E3 Showing

DoctorWily

@Darkwario1 NX hasn't been delayed. It's release date has been announced. You can't release something before it's ready. If they turn around and say NX will come out later than March 2017, then you can say it's been delayed.

@rjejr I feel your frustration. I really thought that Nintendo was going to show NX at E3. The only explanation to me for missing E3 and the holiday season is that it's just not ready. While they probably have 80% or more of what the NX is nailed down, they're probably still trying to iron out that last 10-20%. Things like additional features (blu-ray or not?), apps (Netflix, Amazon, live voice chat, even when not in a game?), internet infrastructure, etc. and I assume from this course of action that they want to show it when it's 100% complete. Nothing else makes sense.

And for the record, no one graduates from medical school with a D average because there are no D's, at least in the US system. Anything below a C is a fail. And at my school, at least, you could pass a class with a 70% and get a C but you still needed at least a 75% overall average for all classes in order to graduate. Sorry, just don't want the NintendoLife faithful thinking there are a lot of "D doctors" running around out there. However, "D is for Degree" definitely applies to undergrad.

Re: Nintendo Share Price Drops Over 8% as Analysts Weigh in On NX and Mobile Plans

DoctorWily

"And, finally, both of its key titles, Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing, were initially conceived as console titles but have found their greatest degree of success on handhelds."

Probably because they haven't released a full-fledged game for either franchise on a home console this generation. If they actually released an Animal Crossing or Fire Emblem on the Wii U, I'd buy it.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Shakes Up E3 With No NX and a Focus on Legend of Zelda

DoctorWily

Nintendo at E3 2015: We're only going to show games coming out in 2015.
Nintendo at E3 2016: We're only going to show a game that's coming out in 2017.

Seriously though, there's a difference between only having one PLAYABLE game and only showing one game. I'm sure they will be showing a lot more games than just Zelda.

@TheAdrock Not sure what I'm looking forward to more: The NX, the new Zelda, or the sequel to your avatar.

Re: Reaction: The NX Release in March 2017 and How It Changes the Game

DoctorWily

The word "delay" was used way too many times in this article, especially in Damien's section. Zelda was delayed. The NX release date was ANNOUNCED, not delayed. This is what happens when you start to treat rumors as fact. The truth gets distorted and the internet spreads it like it was fact. I have no doubt now that I'll be reading comments on this website for the next 11 months complaining about the NX's "delay".

Re: Nintendo NX Will Be Launched Globally in March 2017

DoctorWily

Looks like someone owes me an NX game. I bet someone a game during a Nintendo Direct live stream that NX wouldn't release until 2017 (he bet it would be 2016). I'll have to do some digging in the archives to see if I can find his name and see if he's man enough to pay his debts.

Re: Video: Let the Hype Build With the Star Fox Zero Launch Trailer

DoctorWily

"I brought Star Fox out of retirement. I'm filling the team with pilots I KNOW I can trust."

Wasn't Pigma also originally on the team?

"Experience an innovative control scheme."

A control scheme where you don't press any buttons, move the joysticks, or even have to move your fingers at all! These aren't complaints, just things I noticed that made me laugh. The hands on the controller not moving at all was just ridiculous. lol

Re: Twilight Princess HD Loses Out to The Division on Japanese Launch

DoctorWily

@Ryu_Niiyama Even though development of Twilight Princess began on the Gamecube and, yes, was technically ported over for release to the Wii, it actually released on the Wii first. It was released on the Gamecube a few weeks after release on the Wii. Your comment makes it sound like it was released on the Wii much later.

Re: Editorial: Triple-A Third Party Games Will Need Creativity as Well as Marketing for NX Success

DoctorWily

@Xenocity "FYI all Bethesda's game at launch are horribly buggy and broken at launch, with Fall Out 4 keeping to tradition."

I agree with you 100% on this. As much as I love the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, they are always incredibly buggy. Aside from all the frozen screens and times my game failed to load, my dog in New Vegas just disappeared one day and never came back. I guess it was a common bug because I googled the issue, tried their "elevator trick" as a fix, but it didn't work. All I ever heard from Bethesda was how difficult it was to make those massive games without any bugs. Well, Nintendo/Monolith crapped all over that theory with XCX. I'm over 150 hours in and I haven't experienced one bug. I do think that's part of the 3rd party problem as well... Nintendo games have a tendency to make other games look bad from a programming standpoint.

Re: Poll: Did The Final Video Presentation for Super Smash Bros. Provide a Memorable Ending?

DoctorWily

To be fair, I think all 3 characters look great, I'm going to buy all 3 and I'm going to play the crap out of them. That being said, if I only had 3 character slots left to fill, I would try to fill them with historical, iconic characters. Ryu and Cloud are historical, iconic characters. Corrin is the SIXTH Fire Emblem character and he/she is in a game that hasn't even come out yet. Of course Sakurai is going to make any character fun and amazing to play. But my hype for this Corrin character is less than zero. I was really hoping for a Simon Belmont, Ryu Hyabusa, Toon Ganondorf or some other legendary character. So yeah, Corrin who? And by the way, what about local tournament brackets, Sakurai? They've been in Smash games before. But now if I want to throw a local tournament with my friends, I have to draw up some brackets on a piece of paper.... ridiculous.

Re: Cloud Will be Available to Buy 'Within Hours' of Sakurai's Final Presentation for Super Smash Bros.

DoctorWily

@CharlieSmile Although FFVII has never appeared on a Nintendo console, Cloud has appeared on Nintendo consoles in several spin-off games. Final Fantasy also began on Nintendo consoles with the original on the NES, and II and III (really VI) on the SNES, so I'm glad the Final Fantasy series is being represented in Smash. I think III, IV, and V were released on the SNES in Japan. The bottom line is, if you don't like FFVII or Cloud, then you have no soul. Glad you're still going to download him though.

Re: Feature: Reflecting On Three Years With The Wii U - Part One

DoctorWily

I love my Wii U and the Gamepad. I travel fairly often and, just like one of the authors, I have not only had many long layovers seem shorter by plugging in my Wii U while I wait at the gate, but I love when I can also plug it in to the armrest on my flight and take my HD gaming to the skies.

Re: Editorial: A Wii U Price Cut is Still Worthwhile Despite Its Ongoing Woes

DoctorWily

@rjejr "So that's what I'm more interested in, clues about NX. Though info on Zelda U and the new Club Nintendo would be most welcome, but Nintendo can't even tell us that."

This is my biggest source of aggravation with Nintendo right now. A little secrecy is good, but Nintendo's level of secrecy borders on stupidity. We got a couple video presentations a year ago and nothing new in the last 9 months, not even a working title. We have zero knowledge of any games coming out past March. I don't understand why they have such a hard time just revealing the existence of a project. Basically, they drive me crazy.
