Re: Netflix Renews Castlevania Series For A Second, Longer Season

DoctorWily

Watched all 4 episodes today and I loved it! Can't wait for the expanded Season 2. Is there bad language? Yes. Is there gore? Yes. Would I call either of them excessive? Absolutely not. If you want an example of excessive bad language, watch the South Park movie. If you were expecting a movie about killing vampires, demons, and all sorts of other monsters without any gore, then I think you're crazy. This show is definitely not meant for kids. It's meant for all the 30+ year-olds that played these games back in the day. The bottom line is, if you're a fan of Castlevania then you'll enjoy this series.

"the other selling point is another run through the challenging Master Mode. Not a New Game+ but rather a difficult remix (albeit relatively minor in its differences)"

Can we really say "relatively minor differences" at this point? Has anyone beaten the entire game on Master Mode? I just wandered around the Great Plateau for a bit and got the magnesis rune but there's a friggin' lynel on the plateau now, not to mention the ballooon platforms. These may be minor changes in terms of programming but depending on how extensive these changes are throughout Hyrule, this will make a major difference in terms of the player's experience.

It's easy to say the Trials are the most substantial new content because you can easily access and evaluate the content right away. While I've really enjoyed the first two parts of the Trial of the Sword, (haven't tried the final trials yet), I think the Master Mode is the most substantial new addition to the game, especially when you think about how many hours it's going to add to a complete playthrough. What's the Trial of the Sword going to look like in Master Mode? I shudder at the thought.

My only disappointment with this expansion is the new gear. All of the new sets have the same abilities as armor sets already in the game and you can't even upgrade them. Am I going to wear the Phantom armor set that's fixed at 8 defense per piece and gives attack up or the Barbarian armor that I can upgrade to 20 defense and has the same set bonus? I guess they'll be useful in Master Mode since I can get them all pretty much right away while I work on tracking down the upgradable sets that are scattered across the world.

@BacktoNarnia i agree with you 100%. I view the Smash roster as a Hall of Fame of gaming. From that perspective, (not that everyone needs to agree with it), ARMS, Shantae, Shovel Knight, Inklings (yet), and definitely Krystal don't belong, even though I think they'd have some interesting move sets. Simon Belmont definitely belongs. He's half of the Metroidvania genre. Bomberman, Sora, Waluigi (arguably), and Skull Kid are all iconic characters from classic games that at least deserve a second look. I could even add more to the conversation like Earthworm Jim, Ryu Hyabusa, any of the Battletoads (if they weren't already in Killer Instinct), or even Popeye.

@greengecko007 I know I don't HAVE to do any of those things, that's just where I'm at in the story and I've literally done everything else up to that point. I think I wanted to at least get all the dragon words before making a final decision on Paarthunax since that group shows you where they're located. But I figure I can kill him and choose one side of the civil war on my PS3 file and then go through and make all the opposite choices on Switch

Definitely getting this game again. For those complaining about the price, you're getting the expansions included, which cost about $50 total for all 3 iirc. So basically a $110 game game that's been updated graphically for $60. Well worth it in my opinion.

I still need to go back to my PS3 and finish my save file. I completed all of the expansions, guild quests, etc but never finished the main story. I got to the point where one group won't help me unless I kill Parthanaax (sp?) And the other group won't help me if I do and i have to pick a side in the war. Hopefully i can get all that done, but if not I'll gladly start over on Switch

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?

DoctorWily

I voted for "Good, not amazing" simply because I look forward to E3 for new reveals and most of this year's Nintendo E3 was about games we already knew about. ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Odyssey all look fantastic and are Day One buys for me but I already knew they were coming. Rabbids was a fantastic reveal and instantly went from cringe-inducing to Day One buy for me as soon as I saw the gameplay reveal. But I needed more actual reveals to elevate this E3 to amazing for me. MP4 gameplay would have been amazing. Confirming BG&E2 for Switch would have been amazing. Pokemon footage for Switch would have been amazing. Monster Hunter XX or World for Switch would have been amazing. In other words, I loved all of the announcements of Nintendo's E3 and they are definitely trending in the right direction, but I still think it could have been more.

@JHDK To my knowledge it's a crossover between Azure Striker Gunvolt and Mighty No. 9, hence my original comment. I never played Azure Striker Gunvolt, but I here it's a fine game... but why does it need a crossover with Mighty No. 9? What does Beck really have to offer over any other character they could have chosen for a crossover, like Shantae, actual Mega Man, or (insert any other character here)? I feel like they could have chosen any other character and it would have been someone more successful than Beck. That's what confuses me.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Dismisses Threat To Switch From Microsoft's Xbox One X

DoctorWily

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I didn't realize that ARMS, Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids, Skyrim, Odyssey, MP4, etc were all coming to the Wii U. Every new console gets ports of old games nowadays. But XBOX and XBone literally play all of the exact same games. If you have an XBone you miss absolutely nothing in terms of gameplay experiences. You can't say the same thing with Wii U and Switch.

In terms of graphical fidelity, it's nice that XBOX is there for the people who care about those small differences in visuals. That's the small niche of people that Microsoft is targeting with this console. Anyone expecting XBOX to be a massive seller is fooling themselves though as the majority of gamers either don't care or don't have the resources. Personally, I always laugh when I see videos comparing the visuals between PS3, PS4, and PS4 Pro. The jump in quality from one generation to the next was massive 20 years ago. Now, not so much. It's called the law of diminishing returns. Wii U graphics are just fine for me. My Switch is for the new experiences and the ability to take them with me anywhere. Any slight graphical improvements made by the Switch are just a bonus for me.

Re: New Trailer for Skyrim on Switch Showcases Motion Controls and Link amiibo Support

DoctorWily

Thank you Bethesda! Can't wait to buy this game... again. I always wanted to do a second playthrough in order to make some different choices in the story but never had the time. This will give me an excuse to go back. However, I hope they fixed some of the issues I had with this game on PS3, like loading times getting longer and longer as my save file got bigger. Waiting 5-10 minutes for the game to load every time you go in and out of a building was bad enough 5 years ago, but will be even worse post-BotW. I really hope it won't be an issue.

Re: Preview: Immersing Ourselves in the World of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

DoctorWily

@ThomasBW84 When I watched the gameplay videos during E3, one thing that stood out to me was how there were 4 runes to be found on the Great plateau, (bombs, magnesis, stasis, and cryonis). To me, that seemed like a lot of items for the first part of the game and I thought this was done mainly for the demo. I assume that these items would be a bit more spread out in the actual game. Can you shed some light on whether or not the E3 demo and the Great Plateau in the actual game are exactly the same and, if not, what are the differences? Thanks.
