UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 4th December, revealing that Nintendo Switch exclusives have taken six of the top ten places this week.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has fallen down to second following its first-place achievement last week, with FIFA 22 returning to the top of the table, but it was a mostly impressive week for Nintendo's platform nonetheless.
Both of the new Pokémon titles, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, managed to climb back up the chart a little this week, as did Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and multiplatform release Just Dance 2022 also sold best on Switch.
New Switch release Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain also entered the charts in its debut week, but only managed 36th position.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:

The first sign of the apocalypse: GTAV is not in the top ten. Prepare yourselves for God's wrath people.
Do I even need to talk about this? It seems like a repeated list, with Mario Kart and FIFA constantly competing.
(looking at Just Dance sales...)
Don't care, don't even like Just Dance.
DDR is still my number one rhythm game.
It's hilarious to me how different the charts are from the games I'm interested in. The only game I even own on this chart is MK8C. Only two other games here interest me at all, but I'm probably not buying them anytime soon. And recent releases that intrigue me include SMT V (which was on the UK chart for one week only) and Danganronpa (which may or may not chart for a week).
Mario Party Superstars really deserves to be in the Top 10 for a long time and be an 'evergreen' title...it is just SO GOOD!
The online is fantastic
I hope Mario 3D worlds makes a come back in the Top 10 too for Christmas
FIFA's doing well because they've slashed the price so soon after release. I even grabbed FIFA 22 last week because it was half price (and realistically, it won't drop much more beyond that, if ever), and I think such a price so soon after launch is fair for the updated content and with everything being on the cart (which I can hardly say of Take Two for their annual releases). But EA are going to do a lot better if they want to see my day one dollars again. It seemed like the Champions Edition of FIFA 19 was indicative of EA taking the Switch more seriously and aiming for feature parity moving forward, but then they had pulled a 180 with FIFA 20 (and subsequent instalments) being "Legacy Editions".
Even reviving the Mii mode from the Wii days would be a nice step forward and establish a point of difference between the Switch and rival console versions.
F&£@%ing FIFA. No wonder we keep getting screwed over, they keep getting away with it.
Also, bummer about Big Brain Academy débuting so low. It was a fun little game. Yes, it's very light on content, but I can imagine family and friends having a great time with its multiplayer modes.
I must ask, why are people still buying games like Just Dance and Fifa? I don't get it? They are pointless cashgrabs.
@Lordplops
I think the brand has been devalued with justified extra scrutiny being placed on GTAV along with the quick n dirty trilogy.
@sanderev I picked up FIFA last week mainly due to not having a proper PES game this year around and the price drop made me pick it up otherwise it wouldn't have got a sale from me.
I also bought Mario Kart 8,Sta Dew Valley and Just Dance as presents as it it the time of year for gifting! Already have MK8 myself so 2 sales from me!
Nintendo smashing it at the minute and probably will well into the New Year with so many new Switches out there and so many top tier first party games - as always!!
@sanderev
Same reason COD and shark cards are big sellers - gaming is MAINSTREAM! Just like pop music, bland and familiar mediocrity seems to appeal to the uninformed masses as they are told it's 'good'.
@Kayvoo,
This comment demonstrates everything wrong with our core views, just because we personally see no value in something does not make everyone else "Uninformed", and lovers of bland mediocrity, as you put it.
They could just have different tastes to people who spend far too much of their spare time playing video games, and putting each and every game under a microscope, and are notoriously hard to please.
doesn't surprise me there boing so many switch games in top 10, but think it's more to do with most xbox and PS owners not buying games, as the subscriptions services are so flipping good. Why buy Forza Horizon when it's free with gamepass?
@johnvboy
I've seen your form on this site, not interested buddy
@Lordplops The game hasn't been in the top 10 for quite some time now.
Wow the terrible GTA the Trilogy really took a toll on GTAV sales now. Hopefully Rockstar learn from this and stop thinking that people won't notice their bs. Once all patches makes the trilogy at least playable, perhaps GTAV will return back to the top ten but as of now you got a long way back up Rockstar.
@sanderev It's just "comfort food". You wanna pop in some Just Dance and see if the kids can outdance Grandma at the Christmas party, but the kids won't dance to that dusty old 2015 Just Dance. And people want the new team rosters for their fantasy circleball games.
stop buying mario kart 8 ffs
@Anti-Matter I don't play those dance games, but shouldn't DDR be completely replaced with those newer dancing games? Why stepping on a carpet when you can use a camera so you can use your whole body? Or the newer DDR games already use cameras?
@Kayvoo,
Not interested in any opinion unless it's from the moaning echo chamber on here, sounds totally reasonable.
Not checked out your form as yet, so flattered you have looked into mine.
@victordamazio
Because stepping on arrows with challenging stepchart is way more fun to play than waggling around the body.
Oh, btw...
Dance Evolution by Konami on XBOX 360 and Arcade is way much better than Just Dance too.
We're never getting another Mario Kart. Ugh.
At least, not on the Switch.
@Ralizah,
We will all be playing Mario Kart 8 until we die.
Barely any PS5/XBOX only exclusives and no thanks to £55-£70 a game either I can see Sony releasing a handheld compatible with PS5 soon.
@johnvboy
Don't flatter yourself, I just recognised the troll picture and troll comments hahah here troll, have a biscuit
@Toads-Friend TOADALLY AGREE WITH YOU! 🤣 but really I love Mario party super stars . It truly deserves all its success and I am so happy for it!
@johnvboy well, I think the best chance we will see at Mario kart 9. Will be the Switch 2, which hopefully will be in a couple of years , but you never know, look at how BOTW is selling over 25 million copies and we are getting a BOTW 2 on switch, so who knows if not the Switch then hopefully Switch 2 for Mario kart 9. Just cross your fingers I guess.
@mariopartyfan68,
A new game would sell awesome numbers, so it must be in the works.
@Kayvoo,
So now everyone who does not agree with you is a troll, again a very measured and reasonable response, but pretty much the benchmark for some people on here, they just hate it when people refuse to join in their endless crying sessions on here.
@johnvboy I agree.
@JasmineDragon Same here. Though I play Pokémon Diamond as well at the moment. And I own Animal Crossing, but got tired of it early on.
But SMTV and Danganronpa are where it's at! Though my physical copy of the latter got delayed, hope it shows up this week.
I recently got Brigandine and Astria Ascending too, seems like two fine titles.
@Ralizah so disappointed in Nintendo on this. I get the business side, but some of us (core loyal fans) have been playing this same game since 2014. I can’t imagine MK9 selling less than 20 million copies in its first year.
Mario Kart 8 isn't going to stop this gen and that is why we will not see 9 for a while. It's attach rate is insane and that is why Nintendo is in no rush to make a sequel.
Unless it drops out of the top 10 in the key regions for a prolonged amount of time, nothing will happen on 9.
This doesn't stop Nintendo doing more DLC for it though. I would gladly sign up for some more.
Why did Brilliant Diamond sell more than Shining Pearl?
Regarding FIFA, fans are definitely part of the problem. Most of the second hand Switches I see on sale tend to include a FIFA Legacy Edition.
@rockodoodle,
The biggest problem was Mario Kart 8 was released on the Wii U, and to be honest sold good numbers considering the consoles user base, but a game like that should be selling 30 million plus, which is why the Switch version exists.
But do agree with you it's been a long time, and a new game will sell amazing numbers.
@HammerGalladeBro People prefer diamonds before pearls? But might've changed if Brilliant Diamond was called Brilliant Swine instead?
It's the same in my country: Diamond is more popular. Maybe because it shows up first in order?
@Lordplops It was just one rich kid buying GTAV over and over to convince Rockstar to remaster the 'trilogy' into 'the definitive edition' starting from number three. The kid ended up disappointed and stopped buying V.
Maybe.
@HammerGalladeBro It's always 'X & Y' (bad example as it has been literally called X and Y) and it seems like it's always the first of the two that gets the most attention, at least from where I'm standing, and I'm definitely not that into Pokémon. Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, and Crystal, and their remakes, were amazing games to me, the others I haven't played all that much or not at all. I always got the second one, because everyone else that got one got the first of the pair. If they released the games and said 'Pearl and Diamond' it would probably have been the other way around. But Diamond and Pearl sounds better.
I think there's not much more to it. The first of each pair is for who just wants to play the game as well as the real fans, the second is for who gets convinced by a fan to buy one as well, or the fans with money to buy both (and sometimes it may have to do with whatever legendary is your favourite, but that's probably 50-50).
@gojiguy no. I'm going to keep buying Mario Kart even more now.
@HammerGalladeBro probably coz in my opinion the legendary is better.
T'is the season to spare a thought for the poor souls that get a copy of FIFA 22 on Switch in their stocking.
@Ralizah Kinda wish Nintendo never merge their two platforms huh then we would at least had a new Mario Kart 9 on their second pillar platform. Now that they merge their handheld department with their console we would only get 2 Mario Kart games per platform, one a port (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe) and the other a gimmick (Mario Kart Live).
@Specter_of-the_OLED I don't necessarily think we would have gotten a new Mario Kart if they had developed two consoles again. It'd probably just end up with one being neglected in favor of the other again.
I think the big issue is that Switch is their attempt at re-doing the eighth-gen, and, to that end, it's less a successor to and more a replacement of the Wii U. Not a big deal for the 90% of Switch owners that never owned one of those consoles, but it blows if you were there day one for a lot of their first-party launches years before.
@mariopartyfan68 We should be BFF's!!! 🥰
