This is really, extra cool. They should have included Combat though since it was the main pack-in. Genius move to do the mini-display of each game. Very, very cool. Just wish these things were cheaper.
I think the real issue is that showing the odds isn't the same as pity timers. If the odds are 1/10, buying 10 of the thing doesn't give you a 100% change to get the top prize. It's 1/10 for each one purchased. Forced pity timer, say if you don't get the drop after 20 opens, or whatever, is the only way to curb the spend.
Off-hand, I can't think of any effective way to implement parental controls that would be effective. It would require parent/child accounts where the parent is asked to hit ok on every purchase. Most kids are going to circumvent that, and I suspect parents are too because they won't want to be hassle with being bugged by their kid to hit ok for any and every prompt that is required (purchase or not).
Great to hear. Even though I could have played this on Game Pass I bought it anyways on Steam for PC. Will pick it up for Switch as well for the best couch co-op option. I still think we could see some DLC early next year kinda like with SoR4 did a good while after release.
I didn't play that last semi-hit FMV game. I can't remember the name, something about a woman I think he couldn't remember who she was. anyways, given the advances in storage and ability to stream multiple different videos together could make some interesting storytelling abilities.
I really hope I'm wrong, but I get strong mobile f2p vibes from the trailers. I hope they don't do that and end up making it p2w. Ugh. I keep hoping we'll get more detailed info.
I don't think we need "E3" specifically. We don't really need mega publishers spending a few million for a display that most of us only get to see glimpses of from random photos. There's no value to that for gamers. What is still needed is the event timing. A coordinated window to host a series of announcements and updates on upcoming games. This is what the value of "E3" brings. While the main platforms have not directly participated in recent E3 events, they still presented during that event timeframe. To me, this is proof that it's the collaboration of announcements more than the flashy displays. Let me clarify, fine to spend money on the flashy show for the sake of the stream (ala Keighley's streamed event), because we all benefit from that. Just not the members only display. And, agree with other mentions about Nintendo's weak showing aligned with the past E3 timeframe this year.
But, how to organize that timeframe? Is that what E3 should focus on. Running around coordinate with the industry on who's going to present what and when? I can see some value in that to help everyone bring their A game presentations.
We all wish more games would bake longer than be rushed and have to deal with bugs/patches galore. I backed the game. I'm fine with it getting the attention needed. If they can afford/justify the additional time, they really should invest in the game. I'll take better QoL for the studio peeps and in the game than on a rigid schedule any day.
It's the same sentiment that happens with any beloved IP, especially if it spans a generation. SW immediately comes to mind with the trilogies. So much hate and backlash by the "fans" from the original franchise. No creative freedom for the creators to do new things and push ideas.
Wasn't interested this at first, but I think they're taking a better approach than the usual shoveware package they've done in the past. For one, including the Swordquest games is nice. Never did get to finish those games. Too bad we'll never get to finish the series either. Assuming the price isn't stupid, this might be a nice collection with the bonus stuff.
Not gonna lie, I kinda want this just for Afterburner. I pretty much doubt we'll get this in the west though. Maybe the mini 2, but probably not the stick.
They should really be commended for putting so much thought into supporting people that have different needs to enjoy such a game. I think this may really raise the bar on how to make accessibility options for a game. Time to grab the dlc pack to support the dev for this work.
@Paraka Great point about MMOs being in decline. The combination would make an interesting storyline for .hack. Although, that's basically the for Overlord; where the MMO is shutting down and he gets isekai'd (is that a word? isekai-ed? lol). I think it would be a good time to restart (not reboot) the IP.
Never got into the games. I don't remember them getting great reviews. But, given how much the isekai genre has grown, I could see .hack doing very well with an new updated series. I should probably try the games. The story sounds more interesting than the game mechanics.
It'll be a new IP titled "Earner". It will be a game about a young boy at school who learns he can "play to earn" while he is rejected by society. While he learns how to earn, he discovers what he makes in the metaverse is in hot demand by the rich kids in school. As he toils away he finds he's able to make huge profits off the rich kids. However, he has to balance his NFT craft with power demands, homework, the fact that the hot girl at school doesn't understand or care about NFT (they killed her brother or something). The boss will be either the lead kid who wants to take over the kid's operations, or it'll be a big faceless corporation that wants to turn his operations into a game to better monetize NFT.
The boss battle will require you to learn how to crawl the blockchain to find weaknesses (the boss is the chain?).
Since this is an allegory, the protagonist will die in the end and the evil corporation will get to reclaim his NFTs to resell for more profits. This opens the way for a sequel where the legend of his fight with the evil NFT corp echoes in the school. A small band of school kids will band together to piece together the truth about NFTs. This game will have to be an indie title from the original developers after they get fired from the company because they refuse to support the game after launch when they discover that the game is actually a training simulator to edutain the masses to accept NFTs and the idea of "play to earn" as a way to make money in the metaverse.
I need to buy this just to support to fact they made that wrestling promo. HAHA.. that was awesome.
So far several games on the list I'd love to play. Never got to own the CD system. Wonder if they'll eventually release a working Tower of Power mini with a super bundle of games. That might be worth collecting.
I'm very, very curious to see where they go next. DQXI being such a wonderful throwback to traditional JRPG style was so much fun, but it makes it a real challenge to see where they'll go next. Several posts here ask for it to change art direction, themes, etc. But, if you change all of that, then it's a DQ title in name only. I don't want that.
Certainly they need some new ideas, but not at the expense of the core identity of what makes a DQ title special. I expect this aspect is going to take the most time.
@Abeedo I think it's because there aren't small details like toadstools around the track watching the race. It's just the big movement of the stuff that's part of the track vs the stuff on the side that give it the life you're looking for.
He is 100% doing the right thing to move it forward. While it would be nice fan service to give the hardcore crowd what they want, that's not in the best interest of the creator (to do what he wants to do) or for the company (to sell as many units as possible). Nostalgia only goes so far. Is he also supposed to only support Adlib music? What if he doesn't support MT-32?
I'll buy this for me and my wife when it comes out. Day one purchase.
Don't people in Japan usually work very long hours? At least that's the impression I get. I don't assume for a moment that they "only" work 8 hrs a day. So, it would seem like giving them a 4x10 option would be better, as I assume that's probably closer to how much they're working anyways. Unless the goal of the company is really to just pay them less.
There is a movement to go 4x32 lately, but with 100% pay. They're saying they are seeing productivity gains and reduced burn out. I could go for that. I'd definitely be more productive like that if I knew I had an extra day just to stay on top of errands and stuff.
We're well past the point of needing an update to Metroid Pinball. Switch would be a PERFECT platform for it too. But, I would like it to be a showcase for what HD Rumble should have been.
Nice choice of focus on the VI shirt. The other possible focus would have been the opera, or I guess .... hmmm... well, either a general image of Kefa or his final form. No, I think the opening was a decent choice if they didn't want to go with the opera.
Can't tell if this is a grinder (reviews on Steam say yes) or a kind of endless runner. Love the idea, and the art style. Could be a good pick-up and play game for Switch.
Not surprised. And, I wouldn't hold my breath about next year either. The industry and market have changed considerably. There are more shows and so much information is disseminated directly the consumer now. The era of closed trade shows is pretty much gone. There are still plenty of shows, and publishers have been been more focused on their own "direct" style presentation like Nintendo. Pretty sure that's the direction most will continue to move toward.
My wife and I both still have our launch DS systems. I'm shocked that the batteries still hold charge, but we didn't play them a ton after the second year. My kids played with them for a while, but then they lost several of the carts. grrrr
Love this idea. Hope it has the right balance of content to price. Builder's Journey on the PC felt too pricy unless you really enjoyed the ray trace stuff, which was so nice. But, the game was a little short and not a lot of replay value. Hopefully this multiple solutions so my kids would want to play through a few times.
I should amend my comment that I am not necessarily in favor of preorders. That's dumb. We're well past having to deal with scarcity of new games. But, do offer a way to get CE items and bonuses for digital distribution of games. Please.

And, Nintendo closing down the older eshops is very much concerning for keeping newer systems that are more reliant on digital eshops. But, I'm more apt to lose the cart, and there are far, far, far more digital only title for Switch than any previous Nintendo system.
Still floored that Konami of all companies is releasing a collection this good. I hope the ports are solid. It's the one aspect that is giving me pause to make this a day one purchase. The collection and features are great. Please, please, please don't screw up the emulation/port.
