In a realm full of monsters, the siblings embark on the treasure-hunting adventure they have always dreamed of!
World:
Draconia, where the game is set, is made up of islands with various climates, each inhabited by a wide variety of monsters.
Erik and Mia, who gained the ability to communicate with the monsters of this world through the power of the “Dragon’s Dagger,” will befriend the monsters that inhabit this land and grow together while collecting the treasures waiting to be found here!Characters:
Erik (Voiced by Motoko Kumai): An inquisitive, energetic, and cool boy who lives on a Viking longship with his younger sister Mia. He dreams of finding great treasure and making a fortune.
Purrsula (Voiced by Satomi Arai): A mysterious cat-looking spirit who Erik and Mia rescue. She is partnered with Erik.
Mia (Voiced by Inori Minase): A cute, competitive girl who lives on a Viking longship with her older brother Erik. She loves treasure-hunting adventures and hopes to someday find real treasure.
Porcus (Voiced by Yasuhiro Takato): A pig-looking spirit who Erik and Mia rescue alongside Purrsula. He takes a liking to Mia and becomes her partner.
The website also confirms that you'll be able to play as either Erik or Mia on your adventures, both of which originally appeared in Dragon Quest XI.

I'm very interested in this game. Dragon Quest 11 was my first--and so far only--DQ game, and I adored it immensely. I know people say it had a great post-game, but without spoiling what happens, I was actually super mad about what happened after the credits both from a gameplay and story perspective, so I never picked it back up. But it was a super fun ride up until that point, and Erik was definitely one of my favorite characters. I'd love the opportunity to step back into that world.
I'm not sure how I'll feel about the battle system, though. It gives me Ni No Kuni vibes, which is a game I never came close to finishing. I loved the story and characters, but I really disliked controlling the different familiar in combat. It was really hard for me. I have a similar issue with Xenoblade. I don't like the real-time stuff in an RPG; I prefer being able to take my time and not worry about enemies whailing on me while I'm planning my strategy.
But there seems to be a much larger focus on exploration, which is cool. I don't know if this game is really an open world, per se. But I definitely get Breath of the Wild vibes when Erik uses one of the monsters as a glider to soar across the map. That part seems really fun.
So yeah, I think I'll just have to feel it out before I know whether or not this game is right for me. There's a lot I really, really like, but the battle system can ruin an otherwise stellar game for me if it isn't one that grabs me.
Big DQ 11 fan myself so I will definitely up for it. The trailers so far have just reinforced my desire for the game. I'm not necessarily expecting mainline DQ standards of an all round video game (as this is a spin off), but that's okay by me.
Didn't play DQ XI (I will, at some point) but yeah, this looks great. Sounds like a nice December game.
I'm curious to see how closely this skews towards DQ Monsters, my favorite DQ series. I've longed for Square to get off its butt and give us a new one for a very long time now
It looks really fun. I haven't played DQ 11 but I'm tilting towards this one
I'll be giving this one a shot, though my experiences with DQ spinoff games has been very hit or miss. The new footage from the direct did sell me a bit more compared to when it was originally unveiled back in 2021.
It feels weird seeing Erik and Mia chibi-fied, but I am very ,uch looking forward to this and have been ever since they announced it. It will be good to see more of Erik and Mia interacting. I still haven't managed to get into another mainline Dragon Quest outside of XI, but I have very much enjoyed what I have played of the spin offs, mostly Dragon Quest Builders and Heroes. This looks like a fun addition.
This is just another reminder to me that I really need to play DQ 11. I bought it and it's been sitting on my shelf since late last year. Sadly I'm busy right now and I'll probably have to wait until after Xenoblade 3 to play it.
Being DQ8 to Switch damn it
this is essentially Dragon Quest Monsters
@Not_Soos I honestly don’t like the real time stuff either. The reason why Final Fantasy 7 has been on my backlog for so long is because I find the combat to be kinda wonky. Like, why do I have to wait before I can use an attack and not just after my enemy attacks? Thank goodness I’m playing the Switch version of the game with all of the enhancements or else I don’t know if I’ve ever would’ve finished it
Erik was my favorite character, with Sylvando being a really close second. Really excited that Erik is getting his own game, so I'm definitely picking this one up! Now for the love of god, give Sylv his own game next!
@Axecon you won’t regret it. I rarely touch JRPGs but I played this all the way through and loved it.
Every main characters looks the same in this franchise. hardly any uniqueness.
hoping this will be 2 player
@WiltonRoots Oh I've enjoyed everything I've played so far! (I actually played the demo back in 2019 and really liked it). I just have a hard time starting big multi-hour games.
Looking forward to it, I too really enjoy Dragon Quest XI whether on Switch, PC, or 3DS.
I know this is a spinoff so not expecting DQ11 but something about the seems like a mobile game to me, r maybe the "Treasure" in the title has me thinking Captain Toad, which was a fun puzzle game, with the whole emphasis on puzzle. Will keep an eye on I and look closer near release.
Looking forward to DQ Treasures. The Dragon Quest series has yet to really let me down and I'm happy to support it!
Maya/Mia, let’s go treasure hunting! Love how DQ Monsters lives on in spirit.
This is definitely going to be a preorder/day 1 purchase for me! I'm a pretty new DQ fan - I was roped in by DQ XI S and DQ Builders 2 a few years ago - but I'm absolutely loving the series, and am now working my way through DQ VII and VIII on 3DS. This looks like it's going to be really fun!
Probably not a day 1 purchase but I plan to get this game eventually, it looks really interesting.
This looks pretty cool.
Ever since Erik put on that wolf wear in DQ11 I got the biggest man-crush. Will definitely be buying this game for it's ahem plot and gameplay...
I really hope I'm wrong, but I get strong mobile f2p vibes from the trailers. I hope they don't do that and end up making it p2w. Ugh. I keep hoping we'll get more detailed info.
For me the star of Final Fantasy has fallen but the star of Dragon Quest is rising. When I was a teenager I didn't like DQ VIII( I thought it was boring compared to Final Fantasy X) but now that I have played DQ XI, I realised I simply wasn't old enough for the DQ goodness. DQ Builders especially the second one is another great series.
This game looks like fun. And upgrading the base sounds good too. Hehe a cool boy and a cute girl you got to keep it classy. Those classic vibes are another aspect of DQ that I love.
So is the story canon like will this Erik meet the Protagonist from DQ XI one day after this adventure or is this like an alternative timeline?
@jojobar I'm sold
So looking forward to this!
@Not_Soos I've been a diehard DQ fan since playing 3 on GB Color back in the day. Their builder series is fun and a nice twist as it is just an action RPG like Zelda. Also, totally agree on the Xenoblade and Ni No Kuni gameplay, big reasons why I couldn't get into those either.
