@rjejr @Captain_Gonru I have to pipe in and defend Twister Race... you should try it again but this time watch the TV. Hard turns cause you to drift & keep a higher speed. Touch the screen for fast brake (you'll need it later). It's actually an intense (if short) experience. Too many didn't give it a second chance after being turned off by the tutorial.

Re: Nintendo Plans Corporate Changes That Point to Diverse Business Moves

Cakes

I know people are done arguing over this, but... the phrase "eating establishments" was added, but it merely replaced a pre-existing phrase that included restaurants and cafes. This is not a brand new plan. This is a revision for brevity.

Now those medical devices... that's a new potential business. Hope QoL returns one day.

Re: Review: Pinball Arcade (Wii U eShop)

Cakes

@Trinexx I'll counter Agent721 and say I much prefer Pinball Arcade to the Zen titles I've tried. If you're a fan of real-life tables, this is as close as you'll get in videogame form. Personally I just like the feel of real tables better than the more "game-y" ones created from scratch. But perhaps if you've never spent much time on a physical table, then you might enjoy Zen's offerings better? It's really a personal taste kind of thing.

But for my money, Pinball Arcade all the way.

Re: Netflix Update Goes Live on Wii U

Cakes

@Asaki Finally, someone else who agrees the "Auto-Play" feature is a horrendous bummer. I much prefer to listen/watch the credits. I rarely watch two episodes in a row. Is it that cumbersome to take two seconds and click on a new episode? Clearly we're in the minority. I miss the old un-updated Wii U interface.

Also, there's no swipe functionality on the touchscreen; you used to be able to move your finger along horizontally and see more options, but now you have to touch a tiny arrow and use the joystick/d-pad. And the keyboard is tiny! Kinda chaffs that they just brought over the Xbox/PS version instead of updating this specifically with Wii U features in mind. Blah.

Re: Gone Home Console Versions Are "Not Actively in Development Any Longer"

Cakes

@Harrison_Peter Thank goodness there's a sensible person among the lot of you. Gone Home was a big deal game that would have given Wii U another notch in their cap of excellent indie ports. I wanted to play it but waited for console.

It's important that non-traditional games have a place on "traditional" platforms. Otherwise, we'll all be swimming in GTA7 and CoD14 and Newer Super Mario. if you played it and didn't like it, that's fine. But if you haven't and are still moaning about it: Try something new, y'all. Won't hurt.

@ACK: Amen, brother (or sister).

Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party, reduced just in time for Valentine's Day. Smart.
(And it's a brilliant little experiment. Jump on it w/ that price. A great way to actually use Wii Remotes in this age of anti-motion control.)

Re: Ubisoft's Unreleased and Finished Wii U Game Has Apparently Been Identified

Cakes

This is why the Wii U is failing. NOT because developers are making bad games for the system, but because people aren't even curious about anything different or GamePad-specific. I know Ubi is toxic around these parts, but there's a market for this game, and frankly I like the use of the camera and even its artstyle. Could have been neat. Could have been garbage. But the immediate disdain is why new game ideas so often wither on the vine and die. Then everybody blames everyone else.

Re: Impressions: Nintendo Made The Right Call With Its Code Name S.T.E.A.M. Demo

Cakes

"Nintendo needs more new IP!"
[Nintendo announces new IP]
"What! Where's my favorite old IP?"
[I slap someone.]

Haven't tried demo yet but will. FE: Awakening (and Sacred Stones before it) really opened my eyes to turn-based strategy. Love the weird American history/literature mash-up story, too. Hope the hype builds and people take a chance on this.

Re: Feature: 20 Wii Games We'd Love To Download From The Wii U eShop - Part One

Cakes

To those of you apologizing for liking Other M: Don't apologize. A great, underrated game that tried something new and was unfairly punished for it.

To those asking for Captain Rainbow: Yes yes! Would love to get some JPN only releases over here.

The Wii library really is quite wide-ranging and full of gems when you pull back the covers a bit... sadly these downloads will likely only be Nintendo-only games, most of which I already own. But psyched to see them consider retail games for download. DS games on 3DS e-shop next, please.

Re: Wii U Games, Likely in Hardware Bundles, Enjoy Mini-Revival in UK Charts

Cakes

Nintendo Land is the most underrated game of this gen. I feel like people shrugged it off because of the cutesy Mii aesthetic but there are some proper-challenging and unique games in there. DK Crash Course is brilliant, so is the F-Zero mode, and Octopus Dance, and Yoshi's Fruit Cart. Play Ninja Castle w/ precision and patience instead of just madly swiping and it's a whole different experience. Glad to hear I'm not alone in my unabashed love for this game.

Re: Review: PUZZLEBOX setup (3DS eShop)

Cakes

Love the concept. Wish more devs played with conventions like this. DS was easier, since lack of 3D effect allowed "book mode" and other formats to work, but there's still much to be explored. Will check this out.

Re: Review: Tetris Ultimate (3DS)

Cakes

Best Tetris on 3DS is "Tetris" for Game Boy. Two Modes. Two Songs. Four bucks. All you need.

(Although I share the Tetris DS love. Kind of a precursor to NES Remix in some of the cross-Nintendo modes there, now that I think about it...)
