Re: Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes Hits Switch This June

To me, it's bad news. I really enjoy FE games but I absolutely cannot stand Warriors games whatosoever. They're just no fun for me. So the bad news is that the chances for a real FE game decrease with this news. And my personal dream would be a remake (or even a reedition) of any of the 2D iterations.

I absolutely love Green Beret since the first day I saw it in the arcades as a kid. Are you able to beat it on normal without adding extra credits? I keep on dying in stage 3 but I'll make it eventually, I hope.

So I got this baby up and running! The upgrade went totally smooth, it was easier than I thought. And boy, it was worth it! The Sanwa stick feels so much better, more stiff and precise than the original 8bitdo one. And it's fun and a satisfaction to have upgraded it myself. So there's a long marathon of playing my favourite arcade games from the early eighties waiting for me. I think I'll kick off with finishing Commando for the first time. Cheers, mate!

Agreed, I was hyped for this game as I'm a sucker for metroidvanias but finally it turned out to be a big disappointment. I'm not sure if I'm able to point to a particular flaw, it just did not click with me.

Off topic: I just got my beautiful Sanwa parts tonight (a stick, buttons and an 8-way gate). So tomorrow morning I'm doing my first mod on the 8bitdo arcade stick. It's super exciting! Thanks for your hints and encouragement, again!

Re: PlatinumGames' Sol Cresta Blasts Onto Nintendo Switch This February

I'm very interested in this one since the first day I've heard about it. I love Moon/Terra Cresta games since the 80's and I always want more quality shmups, especially non bullet-hell ones. But now I'll be waiting for a sale, I guess. It's too much. For this price I could buy two of those Cave shooters I still don't have.

Same here! Terra Cresta was one of my favourite shmups on my Speccy in the 80's. Then I played it on mame and now on my Switch. I really want the modern sequel so bad. And these delays are so annoying.

This is a very fine list. But it lacks one true gem. I mean the recently released Eschatos. It's absolutely a top notch shmup, up there with the best ones! Great graphics, super dynamic gameplay with some original mechanics and a very solid port including two earlier versions of the game. It's a real treat for all of you, shmup lovers! Go and give it a try, you won't regret it!

Of course, MHS is more light-hearted in terms of overall presentation and vibe. The story is more simple as well. It's definitely easier than the SMT games, but if you want challenge, you'll find a variety of special missions that will give you just that. There's also an online co-op mode. The MH setup has its limitations, but nevertheless it's a very good and polished game. I can easily recommend it. To me, it was more appealing than MH: Rise. Also, you may consider Ys IX, if you want a jrpg that's more on the darkish side.

That actually brings up an interesting general question: are the early games of the 80's appealing only to them boomers like myself (for the purely nostalgic value) or do they offer any universal values to every possible person interested in quality gaming? Not that I know the answer, just wondering.

It's not an unjustified opinion as the gaming world went a long way from this era. But I've play Jet Pac by Ultimate Play the Game (later turned into RARE) just yesterday evening and had a blast with it! Or look at Software Projects' Manic Miner / Jet Set Willy series. And that's just a surface. I mean, there are many games on the 8-bit home systems of the early eighties that are all-time classics and therefore should be available to the modern audiences to appreciate, I guess.
