Re: Soapbox: Leaving The Comfort Zone - A Quest To Find My New Favourite Games

I do occasionally buy games outside of my usual field of interest but they very rarely click with me. I bought Beholder, Uncanny Valley, Stardew Valley and put them all away almost immediately. One cool exception was Slay the Spire which I had a blast with and finished twice with different characters, even though I almost never play card games.

A good point! I was extrememely excited for that game and looked forward to playing it since I saw the first announcement. It was some 2 years of waiting or even more. But when it eventually dropped, I was put off by the price (and the idea of selling the story mode separately). Also the reviews were not brilliant and I saw the muddy visuals, so I decided to wait for sale. But it's not coming and I still feel that itch for more Cresta, so maybe it's finally time to jump in.

I remember playing it in an arcade parlor as a kid of 12 or something like that. Only rare I had any change to actually play, so most of the time I was just sitting there and watching other people playing. Then I got it on my ZX Spectrum and I was so happy to be able to play it for free as many times as I wanted. Then MAME and now Capcom Stadium. This is one of the games I'll never drop, I guess. The others would be Terra Cresta and Green Beret.

You're right, we could use some side quests instead of read-only side episodes. I'm also not a fan of these cheesy voices. And I could use a full customizable equipment mechanics, I mean fully changeable weapons and clothes instead of barely 2 trinkets. Btw. SE just announced another isometric turn based tactics game during the State of Play, I wonder what that'll be like.

I just cannot put down Triangle Strategy since I got it this Friday. Alrerady 10 hours in the game and it's only getting more and more interesting. Even the longish dialogue boxes are not as annoying as usual, because the writing is better than SE average, and the plot - describing cynical politics and a brutal unprovoked invasion - seems to unexpectedly resonate with the grim news from Ukraine.
