Rogue Trooper Redux is a pretty interesting upcoming release, as it'll tap into nostalgia while also offering some shooty-bang-bang gaming on the Switch. The good news is that Nintendo fans will no longer need to wait longer than PS4 / Xbox One owners to play it, with development getting ahead of schedule to ensure a shared release date.
It'll arrive on 17th October in North America, with the same date expected (but not 100% confirmed yet) for Europe; the price will be £19.99 / $24.99. Check out some details and a '101' trailer below.
- A BAFTA-nominated story faithful to the 2000 AD comic and universe of the same name.
- A thrilling singleplayer campaign blending stealth, action, cover-based shooting and epic set pieces.
- Tactical smarts: Listen out for Helm's strategic advice and confuse the enemy with distractions and holodecoys.
- Withering firepower: Transform Rogue's sentient rifle Gunnar into a sentry gun, sniper rifle, mortar, missile launcher and more.
- Powerful upgrades: collect salvage to upgrade weapons and order Bagman to manufacture explosives under fire.
- Two intense co-op modes for 2-4 players online (or in single player offline).
Will you be tempted to give this a try on Nintendo Switch?

Zarjaz!
Is it getting a physical release on Switch?
Looking good, even if its 6th gen roots pop up here and there at times. Hopefully the port will be good, this should run without an issue on Switch. Throw in a physical release for Europe and I'll get it for sure.
This game looks so goofy, but I'm still interested.
Not played the original so I'll wait on reviews, but it's a maybe from me
Anybody else think we would be drowning in games this time last year?! I can no longer keep up and have to prioritize what I want. Don't even have time to play all these games.
Will wait for reviews but this looks old school fun!
@Spoony_Tech Next year will probably be worse... or better depending on how you look at it
Considering that this was a total B-title on the PS2, I have zero interest. All the more power to those interested, though. It's good to see variety.
I tried to play it on my wii. I couldn't stand it for more than a couple of hours.
@Spoony_Tech Same here!
Discounts are going to be key if I want to play most of these games.
@Spoony_Tech
Lol i was thinking the same.
@Spoony_Tech Yep it's getting that way. It's going to really ramp up once Doom, Xenoblade, Skyrim, LA Noire, Rocket League etc etc come out over November/December. If the indies keep coming at the same pace as they are now then it's going to be real tough to keep up. It's a great problem to have though.
@OorWullie what a problem to have! Third party AAA and Nintendo AAA must haves. By the time I get to the third party stuff, I would expect the price to have dropped.
Just wait until October 27th @Spoony_Tech
@Darkwario1 The thing with that though is it will be a CHRISTmas gift for the kids so I won't even be playing it for another 11 weeks or so. I'm good till then though because of the million other games I want just for me lol.
Screw Call of Duty, Rogue Trooper is the best shooter now.
@OorWullie Are you still playing Splatoon 2? I remember when the first game came out nothing could pull me away from it. Of course there was little to try and pull me away. Now as soon as Mario + Rabbids came out I haven't even touched it but not for the lack of not wanting to. I was also playing Ever Oasis on the side. Beat both of those to find myself in other games. Samus Returns and SteamWorld Dig 2 took over after I beat those and thankfully just beat Golf Story today. Now lets see what else I can clear out lol.
At least half the games I want coming out over the next 3 months cost $20 or less.
Wireless co-op and gyro aiming would make me very happy trooper.
@Spoony_Tech I'm waiting a month until my birthday. Self inflicted wait but I have not been this excited about a birthday since I was a kid.
Solid game, but it was so good with Wiimote aiming... With no gyro, I'm not sure if I need it again. The Co-op is a lot of fun though.
Does actually look quite good
@readyletsgo really just a maybe?
It looks fairly good but the main mutant character bothers me. Looks like someone bred The Incredible Hulk with a Smurf.
@OorWullie Bar Xenoblade Chronicles 2 the rest of the games you mentioned are ports, as is this game. And a lot of the indie games are ports as well.
@sandman89 lol it's mostly a probably. If it's prices right.
I’m very tempted. Rogue Trooper’s comic book background makes this seem pretty interesting.
Wow the Switch is in a better position already than the Wii U ever got!
This was one of my favorite games for the original X-Box, so I'm looking forward to this release.
Oh man, I was so looking forward to this when it was announced. Now there are more games coming than I can possibly play, including top shelf shooters like Doom and Wolfenstein. Going to be some hard choices ahead.
It definitely looks good, though, and I was a fan of the comic back in the day.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm well aware of that but being a Nintendo only gamer I've never played any of them so I couldn't care. As long as they aren't shoddy ports I'm happy.
A mixture of top 3rd party titles, ports or not, mixed in with Nintendo's cream and the best indies,makes me an extremely happy gamer, instead of a frustrated gamer like I was at times with Wii U. I loved that machine but weeks/months would go buy without anything worth buying and I owned all the first party titles and 3rd party ports worth buying. That's a problem the Switch isn't having and likely won't have for the foreseeable future.
Mmm. Unless I get a sudden injection of expendable cash, I'll waIt for doom.
2000ad was a fantastic comic though !
I'm itching to play some fun shooters on Switch! Glad we get it right along everyone else.
I'm glad more shooters are coming to the Switch. Granted, most of these don't interest me that much, but they can really broaden the Switch's audience.
@Spoony_Tech I've not really been playing anything since early September other than some Neo Geo here and there and in the past week, some FIFA. I'm still in the UK and won't get back to Thailand till sometime in November. I fear Splatoon 2 will be cast aside as I try to catch up when i get back. Golf Story, Steamworld Dig 2 and Stardew Valley are all high on my wishlist and with so many others arriving in the next month I'm going to have a monster back log. I bought Thimbleweed Park when it came out and I haven't even seen the title screen.
I really liked the Wii-version of the original, so I'll be getting this. But does anyone know if the co-op can still be played in splitscreen? That was the most important feature for me...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Who cares if they are ports dude? Maybe not everyone got them the first time around and so long as they work well it shouldn't make a difference. I didn't get DOOM on my PS4 last year but looking at it on Switch now it seems great being able to take a AAA shooter on the go with me.
getting this. loved 200AD as a kid and am a fan of this on pc and rebellions other titles like sniper elite
This was a very mediocre game even back in 2006, so I wonder why Rebellion chose this game for the remaster treatment. It would make much more sense if they remastered something like Sniper Elite 1 or 2, or any of their Aliens vs. Predator titles. The latter may be hard because licensing issues, tho.
Listed on PAL eShop for 17th October.
Is this only coming out as digital download?
I feel kinda bad for them since Doom was announced.
Animations kill it for me. I will wait on doom.
I loved 2000AD as a kid and enjoyed playing this on the Wii (but traded it in) so I'll definitely be picking up Rogue Trooper on the Switch.
Meh. I don't see anything to get excited about. When I was a kid the 2000AD comics always seemed to be a collection of crappy stories and bad art work.
Regardless of some of the negative views concerning this game, I personally found it to be quite entertaining on the Wii, if somewhat clunky in its controls, but since it's the only third person shooter on there, it didn't bother me that much, and once you look past that, there's an interesting story and an entertaining game to be had.
One other criticism that can be deemed valid is that some of the environments are a little sparse, but that doesn't impact gameplay at all, and from what I've seen so far, this has already been taken care of in this new version.
The price is more than decent, so I can heartily recommend this game to anyone looking for a decent third person shooter with a sci-fi flavor.
Even the Metacritic scores are decent:
http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii/rogue-trooper-quartz-zone-massacre
Nintendo Life gave the Wii version an 8, GamesRadar gave it 4/5 and VideoGamer.com gave it an 8/10.
All in all, the average score is good, so apparently, most reviewers agree with me that this is an enjoyable game if you don't expect too much of it. It won't stack up against other, more famous third person shooters, but it is still a pretty decent game nonetheless, and well worth a go.
Unfortunatly theres kown phisical copy for Switch.
@Tate24 unfortunatly Theres Kown phisical copy on Switch
@FragRed NO Unfortunatly
@blinder2 thats shame :/
cant wait for this game.
Just seems like such an odd choice for a reboot.
@Kalmaro I thought the same before I bought it on Wii a few years back, but it's really good. Very solid gameplay and a decent story too.
