Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Version 2.1.0 Is Now Live

Braok

@Tyranexx Honestly, I don't recommend playing Future Connected. All of my friends who've played it have said it's mid, and the writing is honestly pretty stilted compared to Xenoblade 1. Maybe it's just the localization, doesn't really matter, in my opinion. My suggestion is to jump straight into Xenoblade 2. I hear Torna: The Golden Country is an absolute banger, but I have many other games in my backlog and would rather wait for the Switch Pro to finally play it like I intended to when it released.

Re: Sword And Shield Are Now The Best-Selling Pokémon Games Since Gold And Silver

Braok

@MysteryCupofJoe Oh yeah, I definitely get it. Diamond was the first video game I ever owned, so I remember it very fondly even when everyone agrees that Diamond and Pearl were horribly slow. It influenced so many aspects about me, from the games I play to the music I like.
Platinum is fantastic, though. Say what you will, I absolutely consider Pokémon Platinum a modern classic, up there with The World Ends With You, Xenoblade and Persona 4. I still replay Gen 4 every year or so, and almost every single time it's been Platinum. I have hope that the remakes will live up to the originals, though considering the musical direction Sword and Shield took, it isn't very likely.

Re: Overwatch Director Reminds Us Which Hero He Would Like To See In Smash Bros.

Braok

@JR150 Really, I'm sure P5R will come to Switch sometime next year, but Joker's inclusion and announcement was mostly to sell the fighter's pass. There wasn't a soul who didn't know of Persona 5 in December 2018, so of course it makes sense. Most of the first FP is fanservice, not there to advertise a game but rather to sell the DLC to Smash fans (aside from Byleth, we saw how that went...).

If TF2 were more relevant, it would be a strong candidate I'm sure (though being a PC game limits that quite a bit outside of a massive game like LoL).

Re: Hardware Review: Genki Convert Dock - The Perfect Travel Companion For Your Nintendo Switch

Braok

@KoopaTheGamer Heat is only really an issue with the Switch GPU overclocked to 921mhz. You'll be fine if you haven't modded your Switch, just make sure to set it face down when docked so there's adequate ventilation. The dock does NOT help with thermal performance in the slightest, there are no heatsinks in there. The holes are just there to let heat out somewhere because otherwise the lower half of the console might get rather toasty.

Re: The Xenoblade Chronicles Developer Monolith Soft Now Has 243 Employees

Braok

@Heavyarms55 personally i don't think open-world is really the right direction for pokémon (also xbx is the only one i'd really even call open-world aside from botw) but they could still benefit immensely from monolith's world design and their ability to craft them with incredible restrictions on both staff and budget
game freak needs to outsource more of their development if the pokémon company is gonna keep asking for yearly releases.

Re: EA Art Director From DICE Signs On With Retro Studios

Braok

@Heavyarms55 He might've been in on it, but ultimately he has no say in that. He was just doing his job, whether he agreed with it or he didn't. Same at Retro Studios. Even if he wants to lock them, if I had to be honest, I don't think Nintendo would let that fly. They know that microtransactions wouldn't be accepted by their community.

Re: 17-BIT Boss Would Love To See Nintendo "Own" The Virtual Reality Space

Braok

@thewingedavenger First, plenty of people love 3D, myself included. Most cinemas make the picture quality suffer, but for films which are designed for it, it looks fantastic. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse needs to be seen in 3D, IMO. I'm so glad I decided to watch it in 3D, and I wish I could recreate that experience just once more.
Second, it's obvious you have never actually tried virtual reality; with modern implementations, it really doesn't make you dizzy. There's a reason that high framerates are pushed, though I don't quite think it's there yet. I'm waiting for mainstream HMDs to have HDR before I purchase my own system (ATM it generates an unsafe amount of heat).
VR is incredible, it just needs a while to hit its true potential. Maybe one day it'll be able to interact with our unconscious mind, allowing for true 1-1 immersion, but for now I'll wait.
It's not a "useless gimmick", though, I guarantee you. This phrase is quite overused nowadays, but I think this is the perfect time.

OK boomer.

Re: Feature: Best Pokémon Games Of All Time

Braok

@HeroponRiki They really aren't the same game at all. Platinum improves so much; let's just start with the fact that Diamond and Pearl are horribly unoptimized for the DS, resulting in a crappy framerate, slow battles, in addition to the game generally just running slowly by design (compare the surf speed in Diamond & Pearl to Platinum and you'll see what I mean).
Platinum also improves the pacing of the game from a story standpoint, not just mechanically. The best example of this is Fantina being moved from the 5th(?) gym to the 3rd. It goes a long way to make the game more enjoyable. The graphical improvements are numerous as well, along with all the improvements to Wi-Fi which are unfortunately inaccessible today (though connecting to an unofficial server is trivial, the game requires a low-security network). The Battle Frontier also brought many hours of new content.

Re: Nintendo Wins Injunction Against California Man Selling Switch Mods And Pirated Games

Braok

@Doktor-Mandrake Don't worry about ROM sites and preservation; when it comes to ROMs we're fine. Any place Nintendo takes down isn't ultimately important, and just makes general piracy a bit more difficult. It won't affect preservation.
Something like the recent closure of the FFShrine forums is far worse. Regardless of your stance on music piracy, there was a lot of content there that simply isn't available anywhere else, both community works (eg. gamerips) and published albums that aren't available legally anymore. Most of the old content on the website was archived but a lot was still lost.

Re: Junichi Masuda May Not Have Composed Music For Pokémon Sword And Shield

Braok

Honestly the Sword and Shield soundtrack has a lot of bangers (like many others have said, the gym battle and Marnie's theme really stand out). But the generic battle themes are what kill the soundtrack IMO. Just noise. They're all over the place, especially the trainer battle theme. Plus, the reprisal of the Pokémon overture in the battle theme makes no sense to me... makes it sound like a final battle theme for a moment.
