It's an interesting idea, but the graphics and animations look very cheap, and the game as a whole seems to be rather basic at the moment. I'll keep an eye on it for the moment though
Sounds like a pretty disappointing port. I never had a Wii U so I've wanted to play this, but I really want to play all three pikmin games, and Nintendo's stubborn refusal to make GameCube games readily available mean it's looking like I won't be playing this for a while
If this is indicative of the final release then it screams of laziness, which has been par for the course for Nintendo for most of this year with the exception of Animal Crossing
@nessisonett Give it a go when you get the chance! It's one of my favourites in the whole series! But yes, unfortunately, Capcom are most likely to lazily port over every game beforehand. They've surprised me before though, so still holding out a small bit of hope!
I'd love to see a new ace attorney game be announced - it's been four years since the last one and no news since then! It's highly unlikely, but that won't stop me getting my hopes up!
I really enjoyed my time with this game, but it's not exactly a live service games. I'm never going to go back to this, and I can't imagine many people are. I'd much prefer they just spent their time developing a sequel than adding a new character or mode!
The gameplay for 2 is great, but the story is very meh, I didn't really enjoy it ngl
The first game and Infinite however, are absolute masterpieces. Infinite especially in my eyes, although I'd completely understand someone preferring the first game to Infinite. If you're on the edge about getting this collection, definitely go for it!
This is still way behind the times - I really don't understand Nintendo's insistence on not offering really basic online functionality. They're leaders in the field in nearly every way, and yet online is an area they've always been staggering behind in last place
I just finished Devil May Cry V and adored it, so I'm eyeing up that Devil May Cry Triple Pack. I'm also a huge Persona 5 fan so am looking forward to P5S, but I might hold off on that for now as it'll be a timesink around exam time! Besides that, I'm not particularly interested in anything else - I want Animal Crossing to be good so it sells well and people enjoy it, but I'm not sure how much I'd get out of it
I don't think this is particularly likely to happen, but would be great if it did! It would break down these rubbish console war boundaries more, which are such an unnecessary barrier in the gaming community
I really enjoy this game, and it got me into fire emblem properly, but Three Houses has better plot, maps, characters and music imo. There isn't a thing about Awakening I prefer to Three Houses!
@Dr_Lugae The problem is there's no way for me to listen to their music at all! If I could easily buy it somewhere I'd happily spend a considerable amount of money on some of the best video game soundtracks out there, but if they're not available anywhere at all for me to purchase what's the harm in having them on YouTube?
Unless there is an official music service asap this is really poor form from Nintendo. I know they have the right to block this legally, but seeing that unofficial YouTube channels are our only way to listen to all the amazing soundtracks from their games at the moment, it's a real slap in the face to have that taken away from us. I'd understand if this is taking away profit from them, but since there is currently no way to listen to their music officially, it's not as if channels such as Gilvasunner were taking any money away from them, so blocking a harmless channel is just a move that will irritate all their fans
@Xelha Whilst I disagree with your general opinion on weapon durability and think it's a great mechanic, it is changed slightly in this game so that when your weapons "break" they can be repaired back in your fortress between battles!
Considering how badly Nintendo games tend to do in the UK market, when was the last time a 1st party Nintendo game achieved this feat of two consecutive weeks at number 1?
@gcunit Axiom Verve's best moments are definitely almost all in its first third - the intro music, the atmosphere, the first few bosses and then the glitching gun are all amazing. The game just sort of stagnates though for a bit, not impressing but not insulting, before you hit the roadblock of bad game design. I'm definitely a bit too harsh on it, it's a very good game, but it's not helped by the fact that soon after I played Hollow Knight, which is basically a perfection of the metroidvania genre in my opinion, and does everything axiom verge does, just better, and then so much more
Wow, a list I almost completely agree with! Very happy to see hollow knight and Celeste so high up there, if anyone hasn't played them I would strongly recommend them, they are some of the best gaming experiences I have ever had
@NintendoByNature Axiom Verge is a good game, and for the most part the wandering around 'getting lost' thing that you do in metroidvanias isn't a problem because you have a specific goal, as you do in the best designed metroidvanias. However, in the last 1/3 of the game, you suddenly hit a roadblock, and just have to run around the entire map finding the most secret upgrades until you have the required upgrades to pass to the final area. It's not good or enjoyable game design though, and it's unfortunately what sticks the most in your memory when you beat it. Apart from that it's a very good game, and deserves a place on this list, but I don't think it's even better than Dead Cells, so I'd probably place it around number 28 here
I am incredibly hyped for this, do we have a rough idea on the release date?
@Tandoori is it possible to obtain the dream nail before the soul master though? As far as I'm aware, you can only get to the resting grounds when you have the super dash, which is in crystal peak, but you can only get to crystal peak with the groundslam, which you obtain after beating soul master
The normal boxart is unfortunately quite dodgy - why the hell is Claude upside down!? - but their steelbook is gorgeous
Also that music is absolutely stunning and has given me confidence that even if the game abysmal (which I highly doubt it will be) the soundtrack will be worthy of its Fire Emblem name
@bluemage1989 I feel like most Nintendo characters have made it to smash already though. Part of the reason why everyone is clamouring for 3rd party characters is because, by and large, there aren't really any first party Nintendo characters left that anyone wants (with the exception of Waluigi)
@ALinkttPresent Just out of interest, why do you think that? Smash Bros has evolved now to become a celebration of video game history, and just because they're from M rated games, these characters are from some of the best video games in recent times, so I see no reason why they should be excluded on the basis of something as stupid as an age rating
Not too bad a list, but very shocked Pokémon Let's Go for a runner up for art direction over Hollow Knight. It doesn't look bad, but it's very passable, whereas Hollow Knight's handdrawn visuals are stunning. Also quite surprised about no mention of Dead Cells.
@Razer I'm definitely slightly biased due to my huge love of Spiderman, but I thought the open world traversal alone was incredible. Granted it does take beats from the Arkham games in its combat, but I would say that carbon copy wasn't doing the game justice
I have to say that this is fully deserved. Spiderman is an absolutely incredible game, and I'm glad it's doing as well as it is! Hopefully this means we'll get even more excellent superhero games over the next few years
Finally! By far my favourite game series, even though I've bought all the 3DS ports I will likely buy any ports that come to switch cause I'm just that much of a sucker for these games, but I've got my fingers crossed for a new entry!
@Mqblank Trust me, I've been waiting for a playable Phoenix Wright for an absolute lifetime, but I'd be very happy to compromise with Professor Layton or Shovel Knight. Unfortunately, I'm 99% sure we're never gonna get any of them 😭
Just to say that this doesn't mean we won't get another direct about other games soon(ish), and more news about the biggest Switch game this year can't be a bad thing. I doubt they'll spend most of the time giving us patch notes like some of E3, it'll likely just be new announcements like new characters and modes, nothing to complain about really!
@Benjoo Ahh you're near the end, but you've still got some amazing stuff left to go! And if I were you I would just go onto the next game - Bayonetta 2 is certainly easier than the first game, so I don't think you'll need to perfect your skills quite as much as you think
@Benjoo I just finished Bayonetta 2, and whilst the first is great, the second is better from beginning to end. If you're enjoying the first, you're gonna love the second!
I started playing Bayonetta 2 the other day and am absolutely loving it so far. The first game was excellent, but this seems to have improved upon it in every single way! I'm also going to buy hollow knight soon - I've heard far too many good things about it to not try it out now!
This happened to a friend of mine's the other week, he treats it really well, has never dropped it, and suddenly realised around the game card area that there was a fairly big crack down the back of the console. It's kinda worrying since this seems to be becoming a recent issue. Will this just be like the left joy-con "disaster" where only a few units were affected, or is this a bigger issue?
This is slightly worrying if only because the localisation of Echoes in particular was just so good, and Fates' localisation by Treehouse was simply mediocre (although that might just have been that the story of that game was beyond salvage)
The problem with cross platform play is that it puts Sony in an impossible situation. Whilst it is great to allow different consoles to play with each other, a major draw of the PS4 is that you can play with your friends. When I was at school, everyone in my year bought a PS4, and that was because once a few people had them, everyone else bought them so they could play online with them. So now, if Sony allows cross platform play, they take away a major draw of their console and their market, but if they refuse, they get all of this bad press. It's not a nice position to be in.
