As expected thanks to its recent western classification, it has now been confirmed that Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth is coming to Nintendo 3DS in North America and Europe later this year.
The game acts as a sequel to 2014's Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, with a story which focuses on characters from Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5. Featuring the first-person dungeon-crawling and map-drawing gameplay seen in Etrian Odyssey, Persona Q2 features movie-themed dungeons which are all themed around their own genre and feature parodies of classic films.
Publisher Atlus will also release a special Showtime Premium Edition. Priced at $69.99, this special release will include the following (note - anyone who purchases the standard game at launch will also receive the four buttons):
- 5” Koromaru plush toy
- Art book
- Four buttons (one for each protagonist)
- Playing cards featuring characters from each game
The standard release is scheduled to be available for $39.99 and will launch on 4th June 2019, with the game remaining exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS. If you want to get ready for Joker's upcoming arrival in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, this could be a perfect way to do it.
Are you excited to enjoy some Persona action on your 3DS? Rest those dancing jazz hands for a moment and let us know in the comments.

Where do I order to save the 3DS line....
I haven't played a persona game but this looks awesome.
So this is it, the final 3DS game we knew about.
I suspect this is the only new release after this fiscal year.
If you're going to post, "No dub, no buy!" please just get up and leave now.
Hooray! Now maybe I should actually play PQ...
I'm just buying this for the music
...and everything else
But mainly for the music
Nintendo will probably release at least one more game for the 3DS to entice people during the holiday season, but this may be it for major third party support.
Should have come to the Switch.
Atlus keeping the 3DS on life support, bless their heart.
I'm definitely picking this one up. Might even go for the Premium Edition if I'm feeling extra.
edit: I just saw there's no dub for this. lmao welp...
Watch them save it for a re-release on Switch, like they did with Radiant Historia and, I believe, the Devil Survivor games on DS->3DS.
I no longer feel weird about Joker being in Smash now thanks to this game. But I still feel like 3 characters from M-rated games is a bit much
Finally! And I don't usually order special editions, but that plush is mighty tempting.
Shin Megami Tensei V looks great!
It looks amazing, and the soundtrack is just as good (go listen to it now! )
...But I really don't see myself going back to my 3DS since getting a Switch. I guess I'll wait for the reviews to see if they fixed the issues from the original before I decide.
I NEED THAT KOROMARU PLUSH. And the game. It doesn't get any better than Persona + Etrian Odyssey
I have never ordered a special edition... until now. The first is one of my favorite games, can not wait
In the eternal words of one Phillip J. Fry:
"Shut up and take my money!"
A spin off of a spin off. Thanks Atlus, you’re nearly as confusing as Square.
Now people can't complain that Joker's never been on a Nintendo system outside of Japan!
@ALinkToMyProfile came here to say this. Have you heard the persona 5 battle theme in this one? I think it's called Invitation To Freedom
@ALinkttPresent Just out of interest, why do you think that? Smash Bros has evolved now to become a celebration of video game history, and just because they're from M rated games, these characters are from some of the best video games in recent times, so I see no reason why they should be excluded on the basis of something as stupid as an age rating
Is the 4th June 2019 only the North American release date or Europes as well? And will the Premium Edition also make it's way to Europe? Most of the time these Limited Editions only come out in North America.
Anyway, i'm so excited and happy we're getting this Game!
And please don't be download only in certain regions, that would be very depressing.
Wait seriously, no dub? Has it really taken this long just to change the text?
@gloom The game was already released in Japan on the Nintendo 3DS.
I can’t wait for this. Where do I go to preorder the Europe limited edition I wonder? Last time I think you could get it through the UK Nintendo store. Hope it doesn’t sell out to quickly.
By the way, am i the only one who thinks it's a bit strange that almost every Persona Game is rated M by the ESRB?
Most Persona Games are rated 12+ in Europe, that's a big difference, except for Persona 5 which is rated 16+ here.
It just feels like whenever the ESRB has to rate a Persona Title they are like "Oh, another Persona Game. Let's just put an M Rating on the Box without taking a closer look and call it a day".
Maybe i'm overlooking some Details here, but in case of the Persona Q Series it definetly weirds me out.
Wait... The female protagonist! Yay!
Well I found my final 3ds game.
Wow, that looks great! Day 1 for me. 69 for the LE not bad either
Just hope they do something cool like this for 13 Sentinels also
They thought Joker was in smash to promote a P5 port, but it was actually to promote the U.S. release of Q2!
Kidding aside looks like it could be fun.
@GunarmDyne definite no buy if you can only choose those annoying AF japanese voices
@TheFanatic don't forget that it's a simultaneous crossover spin-off of TWO franchises one of which is a spinoff subfranchise itself. XD
So Joker made it in Smash because of this one game?
Well this is a must buy.
About freaking time. Now the question is whether I'll actually pick up my 3DS enough to play it at this point.
@nhSnork Can’t wait for Shin Persona QR 2.8 HD for the Nokia N-Gage
@TheFanatic asking from under a rock - was that part of the joke or is Nokia actually reviving N-Gage brand?
@nhSnork Just part of the joke, but one can dream.
Sorry for spam
Resident Evil 2 Sold An Astonishing 3 Million Copies In Its First Week. Good hoorror video games is selling pretty well! So why did Nintendo not make a first party horror video game? Please give us another fatal frame!

HUZZAH!
My prayers have been answered!
We're actually, finally getting Persona Q2!
The first game was my first Persona game. It was like playing a perfect Etrian Odyssey game! After watching the Persona 3 films and Persona 4 anime to get a feel for the characters and plot, both which I enjoyed a lot, I just loved playing PQ!
Now I need to watch the P5 anime before getting PQ2.
Hopefully I'll be able to afford the Premium edition by then.
I actually still had to do the other side of PQ.
But where does it say whether or not the game will be dubbed?
PQ only had the eng dub, which was disappointing at first, but I actually got used to it. So personally, I'm good either way.
@ALinkttPresent Make that four M-Rated franchises. Some of the later Castlevania games were M-Rated, too, I believe.
@Arshiya Well, I’m sure there are some dead NES franchises that could get the horror spin. I’m sure MP4 will be fine for me, but Nintendo is a wild beast.
Nice, the 3DS keeps on rolling.
I'm sure there will be at least a few more notable 3DS games throughout the year as well. (and more Nintendo Selects)
Maybe a few more in 2020, but that will be all.
Respect for the 3DS: amazing system, incredible library.
Joker 4 Smash Confir.......oh.
@Nagi_Nagisa 5 wasn't the only game to get a 12 rating. P3FES, P4 and P4G were also 16's.
@Orpheus79V I just noticed i made a small mistake in my comment. I mixed up the european Pegi Ratings with the german USK Rating. Here the only Persona game rated 16 and up was still Persona 5.
Persona Dancing 3 & 5 even got a USK 0 rating.
I just think it's interesting how different age ratings can be between regions.
@Grumblevolcano I wouldn't be surprised if we get Yo-kai Watch Blasters 2 as well. It's been out for a while in Japan, and we did get Yo-kai Watch 3 recently.
Now, when Nintendo gamers are familiar with every single Persona protagonist, it's time to announce 1-5 remakes for Switch.
I really enjoyed Persona Q. And Persona Dancing. I seem to like the spinoffs more than the main series (and I’m only half kidding, I platinumed Persona 4 Dancing but never finished P4 or P5)
I told myself I was done buying 3DS games, but... I think I need that special edition.
June for
Joker in Smashtotally this one 3DS game is an awfully long time to wait.WHERE IS A LINK TO PRE-ORDER!!!!!!! I totally want that premium edition.
@ALinkttPresent I get what you mean; M-rated characters in a E-to-Teen-rated series? Seems odd and a tad out of place.
On the other hand, I hope one of the DLC fighters is an ironically violent characters, just to see them get beat up by the likes of Wii Fit Trainer and Isabelle. Having (rated) Mature characters in immature situations is hilarious.
This is coming from someone who normally doesn’t play M-rated games, hates excessive violence, gore, blood, swearing, etc etc etc. Having characters like Snake and Bayonetta bring their own “serious” (I guess? There’s probably a better word to describe what I mean) flair to a super silly game, which somehow makes it sillier!
Hold on, this article ISN’T about Smash???
@BranJ0 It’s likely because of WHY those games are rated M. (Bayonetta, for example, is rated M for things like partial nudity, strong language, etc.) I agree to an extent with the original poster that things that are normally found in M-rated titles have no place in Smash, as it’s a mostly kid-friendly title.
However, Smash does a good job of toning down M-rated themes while staying true to the character, in my opinion. I love this because I enjoy playing Smash with those younger than me, so having them be able to use said M-rated characters without worrying about the themes they’re normally tied to (except maybe Bayonetta) is a blessing. With that in mind, bring on the M-rateds!
(Note: I am not speaking on behalf of @ALinkttPresent , rather giving input and my own reasoning/speculation as to why they made that remark. 🙂)
The premium edition looks tempting, i'll probably get that one...
Just preordered the premium at videogamesplus.ca
Wish this was a switch title
Great news! Between this and the upcoming PS4 announcement, lots more P5 coming up in 2019.
@jly1987 tbh it wouldn't work nearly as well on Switch. All Etrian games are pretty reliant on the dual-screen setup, since you're constantly adding to the map on the touchscreen while exploring. I'd love to have this in HD, but it would either have to have an insanely cluttered UI or abandon the core gameplay mechanic of the series.
Dub or not I can't pass this up. The first game was one of my top 5 3ds games for sure.
Yay! And wait, where is the "no dub" in this? If so... double Yay~! Finally, an official Persona game in English with undub~
A little pricey but I still gonna buy that premium edition as my last 3DS game unless Nintendo announces something that is not a port or a good port but I doubt it
"No joke" I was expecting an April 1 release date with that headline.
Great! Now we just need the rest of the Yo-Kai stuff localised and the 3DS can finally have it's farewell!
I'm pleased this is still coming. I thought it might have been quietly dropped.
And I'm delighted there's no dub, to be honest. (OK, that's a bit much - I prefer the original voice acting, but I guess other people are free to be wrong.)
No dub is great. Had to play the fanmade undubbed Shin Megami Tensei games on the 3DS. Can't stand English voices in a game that takes place in Japan. Hooray for hackers.
BTW this game will be great for collectors. A fairly niche, but fan favorite franchise getting a release this late in the life cycle of the console will probably not sell well. But will be looked after in a few years.
I was wondering if you could add JPN and AUS dates like you do with NA/EU/UK. With the overview pages, on some of them you added Japan's date.
Ok, so I am new to the Persona series as I bought the last one on PS4. Someone help me out here. What is this particular branch of the series? All the video had was the cut scenes (or so I guess). What is this branch of the series like? Is it a RPG? Is it action? Is it a dance dance revolution? etc.
