I was really excited for this but I'm very disappointed that it is 720p. A Wii port should surely manage 1080p on Switch, right? Full HD could really have helped the clarity for 4 player split-screen too.
I really wanted this. This should manage to not run like a slideshow in 4 player mode, and in HD! I hope it will have slightly less unnecessary motion controls (like the pressing a button AND flicking up to jump) but I REALLY hope it will support Miis. It is so fun to play as your self and friends and family, and the included avatars don't cut it as representations.
@Biff_ARMStrong DX can also stand for Director's cut. It is also more concise and definite than "deluxe", which can be spelled "de luxe" or "delux" in non-anglophonic countries.
@bloodycelt Redownloading is not a consumer right by law. There is no such law in the most of the world at least. Its definitely not in the DMCA. DMCA did the opposite of extending consumer rights, it limited them. DMCA gave more control and intellectual property rights to producers.
Battlefield Hardline released in 2015 running Frostbite on PS3 and 360. It is clearly possible to port the engine. The issue would be effort, cost, and how much they would be willing to sacrifice in terms of graphical features and branching from the main engine.
#correction This is misquoted: "Previously developers could decide between 1600MHz or 1331.2MHz when the Switch is docked ("boost mode") although this appears to have changed, meaning they are now limited to only 1600MHz."
It said only 1331.2MHz is available in undocked mode now. As compared to before when both speeds were available. Both speeds ARE available in docked mode still.
EA is unprecedentedly supporting Switch with a FIFA release, just like they did for Wii U, Vita, and N-Gage! So it is not such a special level of support here yet.
This is not good for casual online players. It is not worth it to spend $50 to play online 8 times a year. They should have a free quota, otherwise they only position online play to hardcore online gamers which is unlike normal Nintendo.
@Azooooz I don't see anything in that post disproving anything. The poster just seems to point out that it would not be the best choice for various reasons. Even Microsoft uses the older Maxwell architecture in their big new Surface computer. Apple is also using Intel's older architecture in the newest Macbook Pros, because that class is not yet released. Tegra X2 is also not released. We will have to wait and see.
@exDeveloper I believe they meant that it would not be ideal if the frame rate was lowered because of power saving CPU downclocking during long play sessions.
"The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards." - Nvidia. October, 2016.
This could only be Maxwell if they were talking about Geforce cards in general as being top-performing. Unless they were talking about Pascal, it was misleading...
This is disappointing since Maxwell generates more heat and uses more power per core.
@gatorboi352 Half the size, yes. But the Nvidia Tegra K1 tablet (about the size of Switch if not bigger) is 16 times smaller than Xbox One S in terms of volume. Plus portables do not have full power supply from your wall socket. And this report says that Switch is using the last generation of chip architecture, not even the smaller 14–16 nm chips that allowed Xbox One S' size reduction.
Being 3–8 times weaker than Xbox One like this is going to mean that third-parties won't be able to port AAA console games without costly downgrades which might not be worth it, financially or critically. Especially if they have to hit 1080p in docked mode, as Xbox One runs many of those games in 900p.
@LeRaposa It is not lazy not to do remasters. It takes a lot of time and effort (= money that has to be earned back) compared to emulating games. Nintendo will only be able to do remasters of a small fraction of the back catalogue, so the Virtual Console can bring back more games serving more niches.
It's funny but I think the opposite about remaster potential, early 3D games can look a bit rough "up-ressed" and profit a lot from slight remasters (such as Majora's Mask 3D) but GC and Wii games can look wonderful when running HD-rendered in an emulator like Dolphin.
Supporting cross-buy just like in the Appstore, Playstore, PS Store, Microsoft Store, etc. etc. is almost a requisite for me to buy the Switch.
Even if there are games good games, I want there to be some permanence to my game purchases and I don't want a hassle in transferring them between devices. No one-way transfers, advanced transfer processes, or significant upgrade fees, please.
This looks like the 3D leap of Super Mario 64 but for Sonic The Hedgehog! Looks like it has good, versatile controls and freedom that tickles your imagination.
It could do with some more constraints, friction, things to reach for.
Gamestop regularly destroys excess stock. Second-hand items are better handed by someone who knows the long-term value of them. Gamestop only has the shelf space for very select games.
Starting the video with "Conker is a much beloved property". Oh, business speak... I'm sure nobody says they love the Conker "property". I liked the Conker character in Diddy Kong Racing.
Thank you @antdickens but when I go there I still have to scroll down at least 1.5 laptop screen heights to come to the latest news section, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe there could be an option/user setting to minimise the Featured news/Top stories section?
Will there be a link or an anchor to the latest news section? Now I have to scroll down almost two laptop screen heights to come to the latest news section (past the ad and top stories section). I would prefer reading the site as a blog and seeing all the articles. rather than big tiles about recommended articles. Totally understand the appeal of that for casual and new readers though!
It looks very sterile. Like a news aggregator site. If it had more chill (less bright?) layout that showed a bit of personality I think the new design would be greatly improved. The default blue colour sticks out too much for a colour that's meant as decor. The site looks better in the retro section with a more muted red palette. It's a big job redesigning a site. Seems like you gave the structure a lot of thought. Good luck going forward!
Shouldn't this be a "Wii U Virtual Console Review" rather than a unspecified "Review". You usually specify which version you are reviewing like that, otherwise it seems like you are playing on original hardware because you wrote just "Review" when you did for retro reviews on original hardware before at least.
As the text size you see decreases linearly with the distance (like with anything you see) the text will appear 6 times as small on a TV 3 metres away than in a computer screen 50 cm away. The text where it says "Morale" would be about 6 mm high on a 40" screen, but when viewed at 3 metres distance it appears as big as a font just 1 mm high on the computer screen, that's equivalent of 6 pt.
Game developers need to be wary of this and design for comfortable readability, even though it maybe looks too big on their computer screens. It's not a question of people getting new glasses and shouldn't be about moving the chair closer, most people would think a 6 pt font is too small for comfortable reading.
Yeah, I think game reviewers should heap out hefty amounts of criticism for games with text that’s impossible to read from a sofa. I understand that some people sit by their screen or have huge screens, but I can’t read the small texts when sitting in my sofa. The font size in the new Nobunaga’s Ambition game is just silly. That’s seriously impossible to read at a decent distance from a 40” screen. http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--oYj5Gskd--/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/1340785503365454693.png Nintendo usually does fonts sizes great. But somehow then their UI gets bashed online for looking childish.
