Pokémon GO maker Niantic seems to be fully aware of the weather that poor old Europeans must endure at this time of year, because the company is partnering with multiple shopping and destination centers across the continent to help players keep warm.
New PokéStops and Gyms will be added to 10 European cities starting February 18th as a partnership with Unibail-Rodamco. The aim is to bring 10 to 15 new PokéStops to these locations to "add a fun, social, and dynamic addition" to the overall shopping experience.
In celebration of this partnership special events will be held across 20 of the European locations. These events are due to "include a contest to find Pokémon around each location, lures which will be active the whole day at each location and other events".
The following 20 European cities will be participating:
- Vienna, Austria—Donau Zentrum
- Prague, Czech Republic—Centrum Černý Most
- Copenhagen, Denmark—Fisketorvet
- Paris, France—Les 4 Temps I Forum des Halles I Velizy 2 I Aeroville
- Lyon, France—La Part-Dieu
- Nice, France—Polygone Riviera
- Lille, France—Euralille
- Berlin, Germany—Gropius Passagen
- Munich, Germany—Pasing Arcaden
- Oberhausen, Germany—CentrO
- Leipzig, Germany—Höfe am Brühl
- Warsaw, Poland—Arkadia
- Barcelona, Spain—La Maquinista
- Madrid, Spain—Parquesur
- Valencia, Spain—Bonaire
- Stockholm, Sweden—Mall of Scandinavia
- Amsterdam, The Netherlands—Stadshart Amstelveen
With this update dropping on February 18th, does this mean that Generation II will be released simultaneously? Will we be seeing Hoothoots everywhere come Saturday? We will have to wait and see.
What do you think to the addition of more PokéStops and Gyms in mainland Europe? Leave us a comment below

Interesting. It's about time they started adding more stops and gyms. Some places I've been out in the sticks have nothing at all, which makes the nearby tracker revert back to "sightings" ...which are useless. But it's not just Europe with bad weather this time of year. Lots of American states are snowed under this time of year and could do with some indoor gyms and stops.
Uhhh why the hell is the bustling metropolis that is Swindon town not on that list????! 😡
Personally this is an idea that I wondered why it wasn't implemented from the beginning. Shopping malls and centers should be spots where there is more activity. Especially in places with harsher winters. It just makes sense.
@Great_Gonzalez Presumably because it has nothing to do with Unibail-Rodamco. They'd also be more likely to do locations such as London before getting to Swindon unfortunately.
Looks like the Uk's been kicked out of Europe now.
@dew12333 Well, to be fair the UK isn't in mainland Europe... not unless we've been drifting closer to France without out knowledge.
Are they ever gonna do even one event for a legendary pokemon? Seriously.
I saw this at the mall this evening. The advert talked about Johto Pokémon being discovered so I would presume Gen II will coincide with the event.
The next gen have arrived!!
@Crumpet123 The next gen is released... shortly after you posted. Thank you.
