Re: Nintendo President Says Switch Production Is "Uncertain" Next Year

Ben_Rage_V2

@Sonos You're partially right. Since August 3rd China actually stopped sending sand to Taiwan. Taiwan is the world's number 1 manufacturer of semiconductor chips. Sand is essential in making glass, concrete and other materials, some of which may directly impact the production of these chips. I'll leave a link (it's in Russian, so use google translate).

Re: Nintendo Reiterates That It's Not Interested In Virtual Reality Or 4K Support

Ben_Rage_V2

@bluedogrulez I understood what you meant. I'm simply pointing out that it's impossible for Nintendo to create such a device that's affordable. You can't have VR with even reasonable graphics without a minimum of 1080p in each eye. Mathematically that means a single screen that slides into a headset would need to be, at minimum 2k, which is twice that of 1080p. Anything less than that would make the graphics look like SD or worse. Have you tried PSVR? I like it a lot, but graphically it's inbetween ps2 and ps3 and that's with 1080p in each eye. It's already hard enough to read text with 1080p in each eye. The switch has a 720p screen, literally 1/4 the resolution of what is minimally required. It's just not there yet.

Re: Nintendo Reiterates That It's Not Interested In Virtual Reality Or 4K Support

Ben_Rage_V2

@bluedogrulez I've had the same thought about a slide in headset for a future switch product. Here's the problem. My phone has a 2k screen and I use Google daydream. VR gaming is still very limited and the graphics are poor. Nintendo would at a minimum need a 2k screen, but it's just not possible at this time to make the accompanying processing muscle to make such a device affordable. My phone is the cheapest device for a bare minimum experience and it cost me $400 and that's without the $80-$100 it cost for the Google Daydream.

Re: Oxenfree Tunes Into The Nintendo Switch Later This Year

Ben_Rage_V2

The game is excellent. There are multiple endings based off of the decisions you make. I was fortunate enough to find the best ending on my first playthrough. The game is creepy in a scooby doo meets pg 13 horror/sci fi sort of way. While some of the characters can be annoying, I found them to be realistic and believable characters. I even got a little misty at the end.

Re: Editorial: The Nintendo Switch, E3 and Its Opportunities for Quick Wins

Ben_Rage_V2

@NEStalgia I see your point, but I don't think decisions made during the NES area still affect the relationships to this day. And even if they did I still think the Switch can bridge the gap between 3rd party developers in a way that no other Nintendo system can by offering some lucrative incentives. The system is finally powerful enough to handle some (obviously not all) current gen games, and because the Switch is popular and portable, it's not too far-fetched for Nintendo to lure developers into the fold: Bethesda being a perfect example. There is money to be made on a hybrid console regardless of past history.

Moreover, the Switch doesn't have the pejorative label the Wii and Wii U had, which is a huge difference.

I think a lot of people would double dip for remasters that can be played on the go: Bioshock Trilogy, Final Fantasy X, Dead Island, damn I would love to play Dying Light on the go. Obviously none of those games have been announced, but if Skyrim sells a few million copies then it's plausible that more remasters and new games follow. In summary, I believe the Switch will obtain much more 3rd party support than the last two Nintendo consoles, because 3rd parties are in the business to make money and the Switch being a popular hybrid console makes it a very lucrative platform for developers.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Nintendo at E3 2017?

Ben_Rage_V2

@Cheski You pretty much summarized how I feel. If Nintendo's spotlight was longer I would be a little more excited, but as of now I am just expecting them to focus on the new Mario more than anything else. However, say the game is as good as BOTW, we shouldn't have anything to complain about for the rest of the year.

Re: Editorial: Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Most Accessible of Nintendo Switch Launch Games

Ben_Rage_V2

I'm having similar conversations with people at work. There are people who have never touched a Zelda game before and can't get enough of BOTW.

What's interesting is where Nintendo is going to take this franchise in the future. If the core fans are satisfied, and the game brings in a whole new audience, it will fundamentally change the direction the series takes from now on.

Re: Feature: First Impressions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Wii U

Ben_Rage_V2

When I first started playing it (Wii U version) yesterday, I admit that I was initially a little underwhelmed with the graphics. At first it looked like a last gen (PS3, 360) game. And there were some initial frame rate dips that made me frown. But...

After playing around on the plateau for an hour, those frowns turned into large smiles. Once you adjust to the game, the visuals seem to improve. The game actually looks pretty good despite being in 720p. The art style is actually outstanding. But more importantly, the gameplay, world, lore, story and everything else is a dream come true. I have to work today, and all I am going to think about all day is how badly I want to go home and lose myself in this amazing immersive world.

The feeling I got from this game is something I haven't felt since Super Mario 64.

Re: Dragon Quest Heroes I | II Download on Nintendo Switch Will Definitely Need a Micro SD Card

Ben_Rage_V2

I don't understand the criticism of having only 32 gb of storage. The Nvidia shield originally came with only 16gb of storage and while that was never ideal, it was understood at the time that, that was a necessary limitation in order to keep the system affordable. Tablets in this price range don't generally come with more than 32 gb, so this seems like pretty standard stuff. It's not valid to compare this to a Xbone or Ps4. PC's and tablets are two very different animals.

Considering that a samsung 128 gb micro sd card is only around $45, we should be happy considering the cost prohibitive proprietary 64 gb vita cards cost over double that.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Gifts For The Holiday Season (US Edition)

Ben_Rage_V2

@Pink_Floyd I'm surprised to see that too. I am planning to buy the console next paycheck regardless (better late than never), and was expecting it to be $250. I'll still get it, and there are enough $20 Nintendo selects to more than make up for it. But still, Nintendo is going to have a weak holiday with that price considering a PS4 with Uncharted is the same price.

Re: Talking Point: The Pros and Cons of Nintendo's NX Secrecy

Ben_Rage_V2

@Yorumi Excellent point. Because I own the Bioshock trilogy on Steam I was given the remastered versions for free. I bought the trilogy for ten US dollars a few years back. You just cannot beat those kind of deals. I have over 200 titles on Steam and will never run out of stuff to play. Sadly NX is a secondary consideration at this point. I want it to succeed, but I am beyond caring about purchasing one at this point

Re: Nintendo NX Will "Change The Concept" Of Home Console And Handheld Gaming, Says Pokémon Company President

Ben_Rage_V2

At this point my cup runneth over. I wouldn't be surprised if NX was nothing more than an announcement that Nintendo is going 3rd party. Too much mystery for me equals too much hype equals possible letdown. I actually don't care as I once did about Nintendo. If they want me back as a customer, announce the damn thing and blow my mind with the new concept. Otherwise I'll stick with PC gaming.

Re: The First Rule Of Punch Club On 3DS Is You Don't Talk About Punch Club On 3DS

Ben_Rage_V2

@khululy I own the game on PC and I think it's helpful to understand that there are no boxing mechanics. This is a simulator/rpg. All of the game play is building your character and when it come time to fight, you watch the fight and make some minor adjustments in between rounds, but have no direct control. Check it out on youtube first before you buy. I think it's a good game, but it is a little too grindy for some.

Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight

Ben_Rage_V2

@allav866 I've been hearing rumors that NX is going to use 3d tactile rendering--which is similar to haptic feedback (coincidence that NX's controllers are also rumored to utilize haptic feedback?), which means the touch screen would be able to simulate buttons with a physical feel to them. Check out this video. Could be exciting if Nintendo decides to implement this technology.

Re: Review: Rival Turf! (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

Ben_Rage_V2

There is one hidden feature in this game that makes it a gem for me. There is a code you can put in to manually name every character in the game including the main characters and bosses. There is something really awesome about naming the weaker characters after people you don't like and naming the bosses after your best friends. Makes the game worth a playthrough.

Re: Nintendo's Unity Presentation Confirms Critically Acclaimed Gone Home for Wii U eShop

Ben_Rage_V2

This is one of the most over-hyped games I have ever played. It is an incredibly boring experience. Just hours of rummaging through a family's belongings. Most of the family is under-developed storywise. The only character development comes from letters written by your little sister. Don't fall for the hype. Game is garbage.

In my opinion, the only reason it was critically acclaimed is because of the liberally biased press who want to promote the lbgtq community. If the game was identical in structure, but had a Christian theme about a girl discovering Jesus, the game would have been massacred by the press. Dear Esther was a vastly superior experience, but went under the radar. Ask yourself why that is.

And for those asking people to stop with the spoilers. This game came out a while ago, so if you don't want to read about spoilers then don't read the comment sections. Save yourself some money and skip this one.

Re: Soapbox: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Tomodachi Life

Ben_Rage_V2

I'm enjoying the game so far. There is a subtle addictive element to it. I find myself looking forward to each new day to see what's new in all of the stores. But I do wish there were more mini games. I seem to be replaying the same ones over and over, and it seems a bit lazy on Nintendo's part to not have added more content. Sadly if Nintendo were to add DLC I would probably buy it, but considering how much content was packed into Animal Crossing New Leaf, there is no excuse for Tomodachi Life's lack of content. 8/10
