Comcept's Mighty No. 9 has had a troubled route to release, with art design and multiple delays being among points of contention for the Keiji Inafune-led title. It's all been a far cry from the excitement and success of its original Kickstarter campaign, but the good news is that we'll get to play it soon and see whether it fulfils its potential.
It's been confirmed that the title is definitely coming on June 21st in North America & Asia, and June 24th worldwide, as it's now 'gone gold'. It's hitting stores and download services, with Wii U one of the many initial platforms along with Sony, Xbox and PC hardware; 3DS and Vita are coming later. Inafune-san ended the status update with an upbeat message.
It has been almost three years since the start of our Kickstarter campaign, which was only made possible through the support of our backers and fans around the world. This is a project where everyone's passions were combined in order to create something very special, and we are looking forward to delivering the final product to everyone who was involved. There can be no stronger connection between game creators and game fans.
Now that the dust has settled, we will be delivering Mighty No. 9 to everyone next month. How long will it take you to clear the main story on NORMAL? How many people are going to be able to clear MANIAC mode? What is going to be the fastest record for the time attack mode? We are looking forward to seeing the community answer all of these questions for us! Make sure to let us know your feedback and thoughts on the game through our SNS channels as you play the game. Your voices are what made this game possible, and we want to continue hearing what you think so that it may influence our future endeavors.
Are you planning to give this spiritual Mega Man successor - as it was originally pitched in 2013 - a chance next month? Let us know.
With thanks to T.J. for the heads up.

I'm guessing there'll be some delay in the production of the discs or the boxes or the digital copies... there's bound to be something.
Great news, I didn't contribute but think the game looks interesting. Unfortunately I was also most looking forward to the 3DS version...
So the April Fool's jokes are just running into May now I see...
INB4 another delay,
I Think he said that the last time too...
Hopefully it gets Good Reviews, unlike some other Game, That i heard got delay alot and had bad reviews. Cough... Duke Nukem: Forever
I am waiting for the 3DS version. I hope I don't have to wait another year
My enthusiasm for the game has fizzled out quite a bit.
I will !!!
Darn. So we won't have had two Gunvolt games in the time it took them to make MN9.
Nice, hope the gameplay is really fun. I'm not picky with the graphics and such long as it's got a good story and gameplay's fun.
@FragRed Do the eventual delays of the 3DS/PS Vita count?
Welp, a third birthday gift next to No Man's Sky and SMTxFE. I won't truely believe it until I hold it in my own two hands, though.
Yeah, not holding my breath for that one.
'Mighty No 9 has Gone Gold' draws the same reaction as 'Half Life 3 confirmed in development' or 'Lord Lucan alive and well and living in Barnsley'.
well I can count on the 3DS version being delayed a couple more times, at least.
I still think this game is going to be fun, but in order to justify all of this crap (can I say that here) this game has to be outstanding and I just don't see it.
I will always take the HD big screen experience over the small screen 3DS experience any day. If you're waiting for the 3DS version, consider changing your mind and get the Wii U version.
Good thing i stopped caring for this game a while ago. Dont care to play this on a home console, but i suppose if it doesnt get changed again it will be a blessing to those waiting so long. Playing on a a handheld and on my vita is much more relaxing
I'll believe it when I see it
It'll get delayed again along with the NX
Just over a month and a half away. I wonder if they will be at E3... I can't stand the constant delays, so here's hoping for an actually finished product...
In b4 shipping truck hijack in EU
But seriously, going gold is a big deal, and a bit of a relief, in terms of game/software. The game is out of the dev's hands and is now in the logistics step of printing and shipping. So as long as nothing goes wrong on Deep Silver's end (the company in charge of shipping and distribution), or any other outside influence, then we can all stop being silly and concentrate on the game when, not if, it comes out. Right?
How the **** do they not have the Vita and 3DS versions ready by now?
You think a two year or whatever delay would let them make it a concurrent launch.
At the least give us a rough release estimate and some gameplay footage. You make it feel like those versions don't even exist and that is insulting to your backers who gave money to hit that stretch goal.
My excitement is dormant at the moment and I'm not feeling any hype currently, but this is a step in the right direction to get me motivated again. Now, with so many delays, hype, etc., I just hope that the game delivers now. I'm pulling for Inafune so I hope this doesn't bomb.
@Pikachupwnage Probably because they were focusing on getting the core gameplay to work in the first place. Remember they are making versions for PS3, Xbox360, Wii U, Windows, Mac, Linux, PS4, XBone, 3DS, and Vita.
I backed this on kickstarter so I'll be getting my digital copy
Well done to Inafune for not only sucking all the goodwill and anticipation for this game out of the audience, but also permanently scarring the reputation off all kickstarters as well.
It's not being delayed?!
Man, such a sea of sarcasm and negativity. Pretty much sums up the fanbase nowadays...
Now... allow me to chip in with my own negativity
Game wasn't what I originally imagined. Someone has said Inafune is like "the used car salesman of video games" and I wholeheartedly agree. I hereby strip him of his title- you are no longer the creator of MegaMan Inafune. You cheesed those credentials off the other co-creator, who CLEARLY was the heart and soul of the games.
Looks at MegaMan 9 and 10, looks at Mighty No 9 with the stupid Azure Gunbolt mechanics where bullets don't actually kill enemies- only "dashing" kills them. Ya, Capcom is now who I will be looking to for the return of MegaMan. Not Inafune.
That said, I'm still playing the game to try it out
I'm waiting for it on 3DS. I hope it plays decently on it.
Definitely getting it on Wii U. I don't think it will quite quench my thirst for Mega Man, but I'll certainly give it a fair chance to try and to do it.
@abbyhitter well if you're buying me a wii u i guess I COULD change my mind on what version to get
So the Wii U is getting 4 retail releases almost at the same time... impressive
Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Mario & Sonic: Rio 2016, LEGO Star Wars Episode VII, Mighty No. 9
@Uzuki Exactly.
The original projection for the $800,000 single-player PC game was Q2 2015.
The $6 million game for darn near every system that also has online multiplayer and a publisher is coming out one year later.
That's not bad.
This.Can't.Be.True.....................................
@ap0001 If you're on this site, you should already have one.
I don't mind how long it has taken the game to finally be ready for release (it takes time to make games, especially when said game releases on multiple platforms), but the constant delays following release date announcements got old quickly. Comcept should have just shut up and filled out the occasional progress update until everything was finalized for release.
For this game, I'll ignore all reviews. It's first day purchase for me!
@Ralizah I think they learned their lesson
Even when it was first announced, Mighty No. 9 sounded rather mediocre. It presented itself as another slightly different MegaMan 2 clone (but IN 3-D!), with so little (and very uninteresting) additional content besides, as to warrant a purchase. In other words, this has always been just another Capcom-like way to take money from all the schmos that will infinitely buy anything regressively MegaMan 2-like, no matter what it is.
That it's taken Comcept three years to finish another simplistic MegaMan clone (especially after all the time they spent bathing in the pool of gold coins their Kickstarter supporters donated to them) has almost depleted any sort of excitement I had for this game, at all. As I've mused previously, the only way to save this game is if they include Red Ash in its entirety with it (in the same manner as Star Fox Guard/Bayonetta 1) or at least include some sort of extensive after-story. In any case, they have no excuse for the mechanics and framerate of this game to be any worse than silky smooth, at this point.
But if all else fails, at least the character designs still look nice.
I think i speak for everyone when I say I don't trust any release date claims for this anymore.
@FragRed
Shh! Don't jinx it!
Okay, lets hope this date sticks.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was delayed. However, for me, this is a terrible release date as I also plan to get Kirby Planet Robobot and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens! (Maybe even TMS #FE too.)
I know the delays were ridiculous, but people have strange attitudes towards this game. It's finally coming, and half of the internet is still shouting and complaining about delays that happened in the past. No excitement, no relief, and no positive thinking? We live in a strange world...
That said, I think it's time they actually showed the 3DS version... or at least told something about it.
@DiscoGentleman dont jinx it boo
oh wait I don't care anymore
I'll be on the 3DS train. I literally know next to nothing about this game but I see it's a spiritual successor to Mega Man and it's a side-scroller. I'm sold. I purposely didn't follow this from the beginning so I wouldn't hype it too much for myself. Sucks this was delayed for so long but I'm glad it's finally coming! Well.... At least to home consoles - can't wait for 3DS version.
@3MonthBeef this is a genius idea. Will it come on delayed DLC?
If it gets delayed again, I am going to shove the palm of my hand straight through my face.
Im waiting for excuse for portable delay! (It would hilarious if he says that they'll started development because reasons)
A good game is a good game, no matter how many times it was delayed. I'll watch the reviews on this one to make sure there are no game-breaking problems, but I'm inclined to think that they simply took a long time to get it right. If there are no serious flaws, I will probably get it and squint until it looks like Mega Man, because Mega Man is just the best.
This game is never coming out and is going to suck, anyway. Am I cool yet?
I backed this game when it first showed up on Kickstarter. Who better to revitalize a dead legacy than its creator? It's clear he cares for the game, otherwise the consistent delays wouldn't be happening. I'm confident in his ability to resurrect Mega Man with Mighty No. 9.
Red Ash is looking sweet, too. Its concept art is enough for me to swoon over until we have something substantial.
At last!!
@KoopaTheGamer Maybe Zelda U/NX will end up the same way
At this rate, I will believe the release date only when the game is actually out. With a copy of the game in my hands to assure myself I'm not hallucinating the whole thing.
No interest whatsoever, will not buy.
Don't we all have a sense of entitlement! The nerd rage is strong in this thread... Kickstarter is for funding ideas and they may fail. You don't own the game or the idea and you are not entitled to anything by backing a game. On this occasion the game will actually be released and all you lot do is whine about it, incredible!
To anyone here complaining about 2 delays... Buy a PS4. You'll be used to it from almost every single game. Seriously, this is nothing. A game isn't a game anymore without at least 3 confirmed release dates.
@JTMnM
I backed it too. And honestly, it looks like it has potential to be a great little game, BUT, it's not what I had envisioned when they said they were doing a spiritual successor to MegaMan.
The core mechanic of dashing... that's what has turned me off. It's all relatively speaking of course. I actually enjoyed Azure Striker Gunvolt for what it was and I'm sure I'll enjoy this too. But nowhere near the level of MegaMan 9 or 10 which Capcom did a fantastic job on. Inafune seems to only know how to make games like Azure Striker- this was supposed to be a return to form. Its definitely more MegaMan-ish than Azure Striker, but it's also still very different due to the freeze and dash mechanic.
About time! LOL. I was super excited for this game last year. Now, I'm super excited again after not caring at the latest delay. I hope that the single player portion of the game is awesome. Great gameplay, HD graphics, storyline. I don't really care about multiplayer, but I hope it's great for those people who play it.
Yeah, support more kickstarters from this guy, go on.
Whoa, I got the news tip credit?! A Winrar Is Me!
@JaxonH I get what you're saying, but according to the people I've watched on Youtube, they have a blast with the gameplay. I think that implementation is partially because he isn't trying to clone the series as much as he is trying to pay homage to the series.
I enjoyed Azure Striker, too. Mighty Gunvolt was also a heap of fun. I played 9 and 10 in spurts, but never directly owned them. I guess I can purchase them on the vWii's network, right? I'm more of an X-man myself, so I may be a little biased toward the dash's inclusion.
@JTMnM
For so long, I've wanted a game like the original Mega Man 2/3 or X but in HD, with beautiful visuals but the same classic gameplay.
It's more an issue of my own expectations and desires than this game not being good. I'm sure I'll love it and all, it's just that I got my hopes up for something else I've been wanting so long, and it was so close I could taste it.
Mine will be Wii U, digitally.
@JaxonH I think that's every Mega Man fan's fantasy... The closest we'll ever get is Maverick Hunter X, which I suppose received some flack if I recall correctly, ... but I enjoyed it. Never got into Powered Up because of the aesthetic they chose. Unless if Capcom suddenly starts respecting one of their most revered franchises again, I don't think we'll ever get that again with a new coat of paint.
There's my founding reasoning why I want Mighty No. 9 to succeed as a franchise because Keiji is attempting to do with him what Capcom did with Mega Man so many years ago by keeping a consistent character and including him in spin-offs like Red Ash/Legends (Re-Dash is enough for me to get on board. LOL).
I feel like this is going to be a good game. Again, really hope it does well. ><
Might pick it up eventually for the Wii U. All the hype is long gone though.
June? Of which year? 2025?
I don't even care about this game anymore.
I backed this so I'm getting it for my Wii U.
I'm really curious as to how this turned out.
They haven't shown pictures for half a year. I'd be surprised if they didn't show up at E3 with some new eyecandy.
I'm going to play it either way, having backed it those three years ago.
he experienced a problem that is huge and financial problems after that also improve the content and also there is no information again from there it is unfortunate that this is moved sad and certainly made that have already purchased the game is supposed to be at the party there has been no further information but have instead become big problem unfinished
@3MonthBeef then it be on the NX
I will get the game. Hopefully, he'll keep to his word.
No way! I'm looking forward to finally holding a copy in my hands.
