Aleste

Shooter series Aleste – which benefitted from a Switch collection not so long ago – is getting a new music collection in Japan, which is based on the aforementioned compendium.

The three-disc set launches in April and includes music from Aleste (Sega Mark III, 1988), Aleste (Master System 'overseas version'), Power Strike II (1993), GG Aleste (Game Gear, 1991), GG Aleste II (Game Gear, 1993) and GG Aleste 3 (Game Gear, 2020).

The included booklet features interviews with series sound designers Keishi Takeuchi and Manabu Namiki, as well as illustrations by Kodama "Daigo" Hiroki, who worked as a planner for GG Aleste 1 and 2.

While it's slightly disappointing that none of the other Aleste titles are included here – we'd like to have seen MUSHA Aleste and Robo Aleste included, as well as Super Aleste (AKA: Space Megaforce), it's understandable, as this is based on Aleste Collection and isn't to be considered a 'complete' soundtrack to the entire franchise.

When we reviewed Aleste Collection back in 2020, we said:

This is unlikely to be the Aleste collection anyone wanted. Those interested in the early days of Aleste will quickly notice the lack of the MSX2 games and the omission of Musha, Dennin (AKA: Robo), and Super Aleste will disappoint those fond of the most popular entries in the series. However, even without those, Aleste Collection still contains five great shmups and represents excellent value for money, especially when you consider this package costs much less than some second-hand cart-only auctions do for single games contained within it – and that's before you even consider GG Aleste 3's very welcome addition.
