Classic arcade puzzle game Qix is the latest to join the Arcade Archives collection, coming to Switch on March 10th from publisher Hamster.
Originally released in 1981 by Taito, the husband-and-wife-developed game requires you to draw boxes within a set playing field, the objective being to make the area increasingly smaller whilst avoiding a set of lines that move sporadically across the screen. It also saw a release on the Game Boy in 1990, which itself was re-released on the 3DS eShop.
Arcade Archives Qix will cost $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.29 when it releases on Switch eShop tomorrow.
Will you be picking this one up? Do you already own the game on Game Boy or the 3DS eShop? Let us know!

Makes me want to play Crawlco Block Knockers.
Such a fantastic puzzle game! The prospect of getting my name on the online leaderboards is definitely exciting.
I prefer Volfied personally. Which is like Qix but from a few years later.
Yes, yes! C’mon! Now gimme an ACA for Konami’s Amidar.
I mean, Qix is fine, but Volfied, that’s where it’s at
Edit: I see @Bass_X0 beat me to it!
@DashKappei as a kid who grew up in a seaside town in the 80s with lots of arcades I played a lot of Amidar.
played a lot of Qix on the Gameboy... been a while.
I've recently been enjoying Libble Rabble and Cubixx on my Switch. Both of those are like Qix, especially Cubixx. I'm getting Qix as soon as I see it available on the eshop. Kinda brings out that organizing and accomplishing feeling that Tetris does, but with the added gratification of gaining territory.
This is a classic
Definitely worth a download, I loved this game a few - I mean, 40 - years ago.
Oops, I still have my friend’s GB Qix cart.
I LOVED this game in the arcade!!!
YES!!!
I'm so getting this tomorrow!
One of the few games that will get me to buy another Arcade Archives game at full price. Normally I prefer collections, but the Taito collection that includes Qix doesn’t interest me much.
Long ago I got my qix playing Qix on Game Boy. You just never knew where that demonic pile of sticks would move next!
It’s on the Egret Mini II mini console and I’ll probably hold off and wait to play there, but getting it on Switch is tempting…
Played it in the arcade, on the Atari 400, Commodore 64, Amiga and now I'll get to play again.
Meh... I prefer Gals Panic S ^_^ (and now I feel a twinge of satisfaction knowing some people will Google it hehe)
FYI - I think the Taito Milestones physical collection will be $40. The Japanese version got a 6/10 from NL.
Is it pronounced KIX or KWIX?
I say KIX.
Used to play the hell out of this on my Atari 5200 and years later on my Genesis! Great classic game!
One of my favorite Game Boy games! I'll be picking this up.
@Tandy255 It’s an odd one. In America, they made sure to add the phrase “*pronounced “kicks”” on the promotional material. However, in Japan, it’s written as “クイックス”(kuikkusu), and in the commercials it is pronounced closer to “kwix”.
A few years ago I was walking past a Chuck E. Cheese and saw the iconic Space Invaders cabinet side art. Walked in (I guess you're supposed to come with kids to eat or something?) and was pleased to find it was a Space Invaders/Qix combo machine!
I'll definitely buy this on sale.
Not remembered today the way Space Invaders or Pac-Man is, but Qix was quite a big name in its day, with many copycat versions appearing on home computers throughout the ‘80s. Will be great to play it vertically on the Switch with the FlipGrip.
I like Qix, but I think the game is simple enough and there has been plenty of clone-ish games to come out, to where I would not pay $8 for it.
Qix is a fantastic video game that stands the test of time and is one of the few games that can be played with just a joystick (even though it has an optional button).
