Hyrule Warriors is now just days away in Europe and a little over a week from release in North America, which will kick off a solid run of exclusives on Wii U. There's been plenty of anticipation since this one's reveal in late 2013, so it'll be interesting to see sales and gamer reactions once it lands in stores.
Nintendo of America is gearing up a TV ad campaign ahead of its arrival in the region, and has published its latest effort for us all to enjoy. In some respects it takes us back to old-school commercials, with gameplay footage introduced by a deep, rather masculine voice. The pitch line of "it's time to fight" is rather blunt and self explanatory, too.
Check it out below and let us know what you think.

That was pretty hype to be fair.
Is there a review embargo? I'm still not sure if I can afford this, especially with Bayo 2 looking pretty stunning.
@Nintenjoe64 There are always embargoes. Life is one big embargo
Pretty bland in my opinion. :u Wish Nintendo could try a different style of commercials.
I'm surprised, that was actually a very nice short and sweet ad.
Yeah I might get this on launch, thinking of trading in Tomodachi Life and Pokemon Y. (after buying a year of the Pokemon Bank and getting my Pokes into it anyways, lol)
@Nintenjoe64 Don't think so. GameXplain basically uploaded the whole game in August.
That was a good ad. Now hopefully it's not something that just comes on once a day and only on Cartoon Network.
Whoa. An actual tv spot?
Can't wait to see this air.
I know voice acting is a controversial subject in Nintendo especially with Zelda but it would be nice to one day get a fully voice game to make the series more cinematic than before. Hyrule Warriors does have a narrator but characters are still mute
@Palutena Imagine anime or better commercials involving kids.
XD
"Nintendo of America is gearing up a TV ad campaign"
I never thought I'ld see "NOA" and "tv ad" in the same sentence. Maybe the ice bucket challenge woke Reggie up.
Wow, that was like a real commercial from back in the 80's. I'm impressed. The only downside - or maybe it's NInteod's secret upside - is that for the first 10 seconds I thought it was a commercial for the new Skylanders game. The sky background, Eons voice over, the green guy at the 5 sec mark looks like Glumshanks.
@ThomasBW84 You will be quoted on that.
pretty good
@Palutena I miss the weird 2000-ish commercials. Smash Bros, Animal Crossing, etc.
Not a bad trailer but many more playable characters is just a lie really.
Nice advertisement, they actually showed gameplay. Good.
Bit cheesy, but that's not stopping me from buying.
I'm eagerly waiting for the reviews on this one; maybe they can tide me over. It's been months since I got a new retail game for my Wii U, and honestly I'm not feeling this one, even as a big Zelda fan (or perhaps precisely because I'm a big Zelda fan, and this is only a Zelda skin).
The commercial sucks. #DaTruthBeTold
Gameplay footage. In a TV commercial?! What is this madness?
I'm still iffy on if I will like this game or not. However I still plan to buy it. I want to support Nintendo even if they are being a little stupid right now with their policies.
Umm... off topic, but has anyone accessed eShop lately? I just tried to access it on the 3DS, but the system told me the eShop is under maintenance. And it's the UK eShop by the way.
EDIT: It's also for US eShop, too.
On topic: Nice
I'm not really excited about this game but I might buy it. There's not really any good hack n' slash games on Wii U (unless I'm neglecting one?)... so that might be reason enough to buy it.
I like it. It is kinda old school. I don't know how deep that guys voice is? Seems kinda average. But I like those short little slogans, "It's time to fight". "It's flippin' fun" They tend to stick with people.
It doesn't need to be over the top. Just look cool and show on TV tons.
Don't like the voice or the 'It's time to fight' slogan, should have been 'Defend your kingdom.' or something that slightly references what the game is about. Trailer is cool though, old-school 90's.
@Link506
I can't believe you find it cheesy, remember last years ad for SM3DW and Wii U
"Oh sweet buttery popcorn that's one heck of a deal!"
Anyways, nice TV ad Nintendo.
@Hero-of-WiiU Call me strange, but that's how I felt about it. I mean, ther are RARELY good commercials. And even when their good, they're still commercials.
I hope it gets some airtime in Canada. The last Wii U game I recall seeing ads on TV was Super Mario 3D World
@ekreig Dude i love your Monk avatar,it made me miss the show for some reason.
I WISH that was a deep, masculine voice. Sounded more like a regular guy trying to imitate a deep, masculine voice. Comes off as pretty lame to me.
Has anyone actually seen it on TV?
"Willst thou soar? Or willst thou suck?"
@brutalpanda
"Defend your kingdom" has no bite to it if you say it out loud. "It's time to fight" also references how this game is distinguished from other Zelda games. I agree there are probably better options, but It's not as easy as it seems to come up with something better.
My personal preference in an ad is to make the game intriguing by sticking close to the world of the game, the actual gameplay, and its atmosphere. Either that or completely absurd so that you have to find out more.
I dunno, I think that will get a good majority of people interested.
Its still better than a lot of NOA's commercials since the launch of the Wii; I was really getting sick of watching middle-aged people play the most boring parts of a game. Other than the awkward, "It's time to Fight" at the end, it was a solid commercial and it go the message across.
That was not a deep voice.
@VolcanoFlamesNL - Tried about an hour ago - US on Wii U - and got the message, figured it was my Wi-Fi so didnt pay it much nevermind. Glad to know it wasn't just me though, 1 less thing I need to worry about.
@GregDavisBlows - Holy frijoles glad you asked. 10:15PM on Cartoon Network during American Dad. I was just flipping round and there it was. I was shocked. But yes, it really is on tv.
@rjejr Well, the commercials for Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8 were on fairly often. Though they were on Cartoon Network during the day, rather than during Adult Swim at night. I saw MK8's commercial on TBS and ABC Family a few times though.
Have ye what it takes?
Hey little buddy, wanna ride?..... wait, wrong game.
Hyrule Warriors is amazing! Hope it gets a good push and move WiiUs. I have paid for my pre-order
Review please!
Not likely to see this or any other Nintendo add on UK TV.
I think some already mentioned that it may appear once on Cartoon Network in the middle of the day when the kids are at school. Don't think I've ever witnessed since the 80's and 90's prime time, prime channel Nintendo advertising.
@rjejr Holy crap, a commercial aired at a time grown-ups, the actual likely target demographic, would see it? I'm blown away!
@Palutena I agree. It felt a bit slapdash. The copy that was written was sub-par, and not helped by the choice of voice actor (though at least he wasn't overdramatic). It all felt very by-the-numbers, like it was approved by a committee who don't really get the product or its market. Who else could get excited by that dreary, hackneyed "It's time to fight." tagline?
That's a nice ad. I actually pre ordered this a month ago. If you want to talk a bad commercial, look at the recent PS4 Destiny one. I guess they thought putting actual players voices in would appeal to me. I actually got de-hyped.
@TheLobster - I'm guessing the dancing Calvin and Hobbes pic means that's sarcasm.
Just b/c something makes sense doesn't mean that I'm not surprised that Nintendo actually went ahead and did it. Their biggest selling game for the holiday, SSB U, still doesn't have a release date even though we're now in the 2nd half of Sept. Neither does Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. Just b/c a company should do something that makes sense doesn't mean they do it. So yes, a commercial for a Nintendo game on tv, regardless of the time or channel, I'm shocked.
So many games, so little money
@rjejr No, that's my avatar? It's in the same place all the other avatars are?
Edit: Not to mention it's been my avatar since I joined the site back in 2010 and I comment on a lot of the same articles you do.
@TheLobster - Avatar, gif, jpeg it's all the same to me
Not bad! Finally a voice that isn't annoying.
