Just prior to E3 this year Capcom announced that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy will arrive in the West as a 3DS eShop download in Winter this year. Already released at retail in Japan, it'll follow its immediate predecessor — Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies — as a download-only arrival outside of Japan; it'll cost $29.99 in the US.
As the title suggests it's a compilation of the first three DS titles, though the main selling point is that it'll feature remastered 3D visuals. Capcom has now released a series of screens showing the difference, taking advantage of the jump in resolution and also making some minor adjustments to the original scenes.
You can check them out below — will you be getting on the case with this arrives?

Day one buy.
I've been wanting to play these games for so long long now... I guess I'll finally be able to.
The judge didn't get any younger...
Really excited about this, will definitely buy it day one!
Awesome, I've never played these titles but always wanted to. Seems like a perfect opportunity!
Never got the chance to play these either (didnt own a DS) so will def pick up looks awesome!
I've never had a chance to play the first three games, but I've played Dual Destinies and soon I'm going to be playing Layton vs. Wright (I can't wait 'till December just to play Phoenix Wright again!). I'm really looking forward to this, just give us a damn release date already Capcom!
To be blatantly honest the selling point is the fact that they still go for $20 used each, so $30 for three is a steal. The graphics aren't very different and are practically the same, definitely not the selling point.
I'm definitely getting this! Way easier than tracking down a copy of each of the other games, and cheaper. I've only gotten to play a borrowed copy of the first, so I'm excited.
You can get them on Wii U right now, same graphics as on GBA/DS though. No need to use the motion controls either.
You can also get the exact same graphic updates for less in iOS and maybe Android, not sure if it's there too.
@Bass_X0 Is this on the eshop? Or are you talking about the ones Capcom released for Wiiware a couple years ago?
Meh. I already own all 3 games for the DS, so I probably won't be picking this up.
I do like that they're making the original trilogy so accessible, though. $30 is peanuts to be able to own and play through one of the best Adventure game series out there.
Still waiting for a EU release date. Most likely if its $30 it will be €30. Though they may make it €25 since (If I am not mistaken) PW:DD was $30 and its €25 here.
Will this be retail also?
@Snivy102 I haven't seen them mention any plans to do so, so I wouldn't count on it.
Anyways, looks great. I'm not gonna lie, the fuzziness of the DS screens kinda hurts my eyes for some reason.
I really loved that game. I also bought AA Dual Destinies recently . They give a 40% discount now on Dual Destinies so go get it eberrybody!
Not much graphical difference if you ask me
Should compare it to iOS as well.
Looks like the DS one is a normal DS or DS Lite but the 3DS one is on an XL as well.
Wow. The judge's beard has never looked so fluffy!
I see no difference but aight
I actually see a difference
And prefer the pixel-sprites as they have a little more personality. The shading has hard edges, rather than this airbrushed look.
Of course it's a nitpick as they're not that different, and the new ones do look cleaner.
I got the first two Phoenix Wright games for Christmas last year, so I'm a little annoyed that I hadn't heard of the trilogy remake at that point, or I would have waited. Which reminds me, I still need to finish the final mission of the second game!
@CanisWolfred have a look at the Australian Nintendo direct...
What I want for christmas CAPCOM is the special all dancing physical copy with art book, t-shirt and music cd.
It looks good, but I already have them for DS. Maybe when this goes on sale I'll buy it.
Well, nothing has really changed, but thats certainly not a bad thing. Is there any news out about the music ? Did the Soundtrack get an update from the GBA songs, that were also used in the DS version ?
I wish I was excited, but I got the iOS trilogy last year (which is when I first got into the series) and by now I've played through it twice (a second time being the WiiWare versions with a friend), I really don't feel like playing through them yet again... But I hope others get into it, it's a great series, and the trilogy is its prime!
This and Professor Layton are franchises I still need to try, but there's also Animal Crossing, Kid Icaris, Fire Emblem... Ugh.
Remaking a remake, again. Capcom (C) 2014.
@dAviD7 What Direct? What are you talking about? I can't find any news of a physical release outside Japan anywhere, nor have I seen news of a Direct going on within the last week. EDIT: Found the direct, watched it myself, and I did not see a box for Phoenix Wright Trilogy, only a logo. They didn't really say anything about it being Physical, only that it was coming to the 3DS in Australia at some point...
Eh, I'll wait for the Android version to make it stateside...someday. iOS version seems to be cheaper than this version after the full payment, so I expect the Android version is cheaper as well.
I'll pass, I still have them on DS.
@shonenjump86 Same here. Except I just finished all of them rather recently, which is a bit frustrating. It's same with The Last of Us, GTAV, Metro, or even the 3DS itself....I can't seem to buy a game and not see a better "next-gen" version of it released soon thereafter >:0
I like but I will wait for the sale which will hopefully come someday
Day one purchase, and I'm setting aside $30 for it so my bank account won't say "OBJECTION!" when I go to purchase!
I actually prefer the older styles. These ones are too zoomed in... and the text looks wrong... and apparently they don't animate as much...
Yes OK I'm a huge AA fan. And am still disgruntled about how little love AA4 gets. It was the best entry IMO.
Wait... people aren't seeing a difference? I actually think it may be a bit too much of a difference in the way the text is laid out and the colors are a little too matte for my taste. Also why are the Trilogy scenes zoomed in closer? Yeah, and the jagged lineage on the DS versions are very much apparent here, yeesh.
Still, this will be a day one purchase for me. I've been holding off playing these games and Dual Destinies for a long time just to take advantage of this deal. Too bad AA4 and Investigations weren't included to sweeten the pot but eh.
Oldbag! In HD!
This thing should come with a Surgeon General's warning.
I'll buy it to support the release of Great Ace Attorney in English, but the horrible redraw of the judge almost completely puts me off.
My only objection is the fact this isn't being released physically. I'll wait for a discount like I did for DD.
Never played a game in this series, ever. Seems like the perfect jumping-in point.
I just don't like how the bigger screens gives a more narrow view on a zoomed-in background, instead of a wider view. That aside, still excited. Played and still own the originals, but having them on my system whenever, might be nice, for the right price.
I never played the series. Is it a "point and click adventure"?
I might be interested in this.
@dkxcalibur Yep there isn't much replay value, as it's linear as it can get, but honestly it's one of my favorite franchises, I loved the characters, especially in the first trilogy, stuff like Apollo Justice, not so much.
@Goob Wait, you played Dual Destinies before the others? You are aware of the risk of spoilers, right? Go play the trilogy when it's released ASAP! Trials & Tribulations(The 3rd one) is my personal favorite.
Anyway, looks great, I have all 3 games on Wiiware, but I might just buy this trilogy, just for the sake of supporting this franchise.
Not crazy about the updated visuals (and the judge looks kinda weird to be honest). Are they fixing typos and such or are they just copy-pasting the original DS script? (As long as it's not the iOS script, I'm happy.)
I'm really looking forward to getting this when it is released. I've been interested by the series for quite a while, so this looks like the perfect time to jump in and try it.
I really hope this isn't a straight port of the iOS version. The script is full of typos and the game omits a lot of the original animations (most characters don't even blink).
I'm so gonna get this, Gumshoe is the best!
Playing the first one on my DS atm, prob 80% thru.
Love it, love it, love it. Gumshoe rocks!
@C-Olimar
It's so fluffy, I'm gonna die!
As I have access to the DS versions already and played thru Justice For All and 4/5 of the first one, I'd like to know how much new content, if any, is in this re-release. I dunno how it'll be playing thru the same cases twice. I played them exactly a year ago so I guess I'll wait until I forget what happens LOL
Why isn't this retail for the West?
Well, I've only played a used copy of the first game from GameStop, and I've heard the second game is really hard to get. I'll get this day one.
I was looking into playing these good timing lol
I don't like how it is a digital only release, or I would have picked it up immediately. I already have the Wiiware versions that released 4 years ago, but I would really like physical copies of one of my favorite series.
That aside, I'm really liking all the comments of newcomers to the series interested in this. This is the best way to get the first three games, besides the iOS version. Now if only the Professor Layton series could get a collection like this.
Own all 3 on wiiware. Ha why does it sound funny now to say wiiware.
I'd have to see the 3D on these, since I'd just as well continue playing the Trilogy on my iDevice.
Good. Now, all we need is Apollo Justice, and the entire main series will be available.
