Minecraft would be a welcome addition to the Wii U eShop

The massively popular indie title Minecraft has built itself quite a fanbase since its emergence in 2011. It all started on mobile devices and PC, but moved over to the console market when it appeared on the Xbox Live Arcade.

Due to Microsoft's exclusivity deal with Mojang, the game's developer, it hasn't been made available on other systems. However, as Wii U owners know all too well, some exclusivity agreements come to an end.

We recently reported that Mojang’s Jens Bergensten said that once the deal expires, the developer would consider bringing Minecraft to PlayStation 3 but a Wii U version is "very unlikely".

Disappointment all round then, but it appears all hope is not lost as a Wii U version has been upgraded from "very unlikely" to "no more likely than any other platforms", as Jens Bergensten has since told Gamnesia the following:

The reason I said that is that the Wii U hasn’t even been mentioned when we’re talking about Minecraft platforms. However, I’m only responsible for the PC and Pocket editions, so the question wasn’t mine to answer. The Wii U is no more likely than any other platforms, but no less either.

So based on this new quote, Minecraft is just as likely to appear on Wii U as it is to show up on the PlayStation 3. Reading heavily between the lines you could say that if Mojang is considering a PlayStation 3 version then it may be contemplating a Wii U adaptation as well.

With the Wii U GamePad you would think the system would be perfect for Minecraft; it's now certainly more likely than it was a few days ago.

What are your thoughts on these developments? Would you be in favour of a Wii U iteration of Minecraft? As ever, let us know in the comments below.
