Re: Story Of Seasons: Friends Of Mineral Town Gets Western Release And New Info

tzahn

I will 100% get this. That being said...one of my problems with the Bokujou Monogatari series in recent years has been the additions that take away from the core of the series in my opinion. This may be just an old man rant, but I much prefer the older games and their simplicity such as HM64, FoMT, BTN, etc. I don't want to have a lion for a pet or ride around on a llama.

It seems as though they're adding new animals to the core FoMT game here. Different colored cows? That's fine with me, because they will still produce a product. But a capybara (or at least that's what it looks like)? Unless I can sell it for meat, what's the point? I don't care how cute it is, I want some actual utility from something I have to feed every day...my dog or cat is enough cuteness for me, and you generally don't have to actually feed them. Stardew Valley had interesting animals besides cow/chicken/sheep too, but those all produced a product. Don't ruin the simplistic charm of this game, Marvelous. Still not sold on the art style, but oh well. It looks like FoMT with a Magical Melody skin.

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Switch eShop's Best-Selling Games For June 2019 (Europe)

tzahn

@Rhaoulos Not saying you need to rush out and buy it instead of waiting for the discount, but Cadence is WAY more forgiving than the original Crypt. Just one example is that your weapons carry over. Buy a spear and like using it? Don't worry, even if you die it's still yours! I've come to enjoy the original Crypt, but I much preferred Cadence. Then again, I love Zelda so that was inevitable I guess.

Re: Harvest Moon: Friends Of Mineral Town Is Getting A Switch Remake

tzahn

Not a huge fan of this art style, but I'll still get it anyway since I really enjoyed the original. I'm part of the problem.

Happy it's not Natsume. I guess I just assumed they owned the rights to all the old games even though they didn't develop it. This means I could still get that HM64 remake in the Link's Awakening claymation/toy art style that I've been dreaming of!

Re: Digital Foundry Investigates New Chip Potentially Destined For Switch Mini And Switch Pro

tzahn

A less expensive mini makes a lot of sense business-wise, but I don't know why people keep calling the 2nd rumored version a Pro model. They don't have to do that. As others have said it could just be a revision with the same form factor and look albeit featuring better battery life, slightly higher performance, etc. They would keep it the same price and if people really want to replace their older model they can, but it wouldn't be required. The likely bump in sales from the mini version would be enough. Otherwise it's business as usual.

Re: Secret Of Mana Veteran Recalls How Game Releases Have Changed

tzahn

Great nostalgia. I remember the days when I'd feverishly check the mail for my Nintendo Power every month to get my gaming news, especially the post-E3 issue. Reading those cover to cover multiple times and poring over every screenshot, letting my imagination run wild. Such good memories.

Re: Spyro Reignited Trilogy To Require Additional Download In North America, But Not Europe?

tzahn

@RazorWind Same here. I just pre-ordered it, but would cancel and import from Europe to get all 3 on the same cartridge. I've actually been pre-ordering/importing European versions of games recently because I've found them cheaper physically and I'm not too hung up on getting it on release date considering the sheer number of titles coming out in the next 6 months. Glad the Switch is region free, but it sure is bad for my backlog...

Re: Review: Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda - A Beat-Based Wonder

tzahn

This game is fantastic from what I've played so far! It's much more forgiving than the original Crypt of the Necrodancer with the availability of hearts dropped by enemies, in bushes, etc. I'm probably around 1/4 of the way through the game, so I have a lot more to see. I've only died a few times and that was my own fault. The music is excellent. Easily worth the $25, and I would double dip for a physical edition in a heartbeat. Pun very much intended.

Re: It's Official: The Witcher 3: Complete Edition Is Coming To Nintendo Switch This Year

tzahn

I'm looking forward to this. I wonder if it will be a December release? Nintendo doesn't have a big first-party title announced for that month yet. September is stacked with Spyro, DQ11, Link's Awakening, Ni No Kuni. Unless they put Luigi's Mansion 3 in December, but that's such a perfect October title.

Edit: Forgot Daemon X Machina for September. That game is going to get buried under the other releases...

Re: Feature: Nintendo E3 2019 - What Are You Hoping For?

tzahn

I'm keeping expectations in check. They'll probably just give updates on first party games we already know about like Luigi's Mansion 3, Link's Awakening, Fire Emblem, etc. There will be the Smash character reveal. Probably a few surprises from third parties and a shadow drop for Cadence of Hyrule. They'll save the 2020 announcements for a Direct later this year. Why hype games for next year when you still have a ton of great games coming this year that you need to sell hardware?

Re: Gallery: Fresh New Screenshots Appear Online For Zelda Crossover Cadence Of Hyrule

tzahn

Man is this some fantastic sprite work! Can't wait to hear the remixed tracks too. I downloaded the demo from Japan and powered through it. Kind of kicked my butt, but I was pretty engrossed. The original game was on sale for around $5 one time and I wish I had jumped on it back then. Can't see it going that low again unless they do some sort of bundle with Cadence.

As for difficulty, I'm hoping Nintendo's involvement will mean more accessibility. I can't imagine them wanting to shut out potential customers due to difficulty. Then again, they wanted to work with the Necrodancer team and may not want to take away too much of what made it special. Nintendo didn't make Cuphead any easier, although that wasn't a partnership. I've seen others say that maybe they three different characters will be akin to difficulty levels in the game. That would be an interesting way to do it and I know the original Necrodancer had something similar.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Physical And Digital Pre-Orders Are Now Live

tzahn

Kind of forgot that I backed this all those years ago until I got the email to "Switch" from the Wii U version. I wish backers would get the pre-load option, but I highly doubt that will be available. Hoping this is good. Curse of the Moon was awesome, and a great freebie for backers. I tend to prefer my "Castlevania" games to be level-based, so I hope that becomes a subseries on it's own apart from the Metroidvania that this will be.

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd May (North America)

tzahn

@Radbot42 Came here to say the same thing. I'd think Nintendo would want to announce the date at least a week ahead of time to build the buzz, so if that announcement doesn't come today it looks like a June release. Could also be a shadow drop at E3 I guess...

Re: Rumour: Did Reggie Just Give Us Our First Glimpse At A New Retro Studios Project?

tzahn

I'll share my off-the-cuff thought from last night when I first saw it. Wasn't Retro rumored to help with Labo, but go uncredited because people would probably flip out if that's what they'd been working on all this time? The partially "hidden" robot could be a cheeky reference to the Labo Robot kit.

After more research and snooping around today I'm less convinced, but thought I'd bring it up here anyway.

Re: A Brand New Story Of Seasons Game Is Currently In Development, Says Marvelous

tzahn

@Lizuka I agree with you here. In my eyes, the "Harvest Moon" series peaked with HM64 and the surrounding games like Back to Nature, Friends of Mineral Town, etc. As the series went on, they kept introducing new elements to try and make the game fresh, but in my opinion it took away from the original vision and simple charm of the earlier games. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll go back because people who want those experiences could just find a way to replay them. I recently dusted off the old Wii U to play HM64 on the virtual console. Even with all of the small warts, that game is still the pinnacle of the series for me, personally. What I wouldn't give for a remake in that new art style they're using for Link's Awakening...I think that would fit perfectly. As long as Natsume didn't develop it because they would probably completely ruin it.

Alright, end of my old-man rant. Get off my lawn and such.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey And Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Getting Labo VR Support

tzahn

Tried to scan through and see if someone mentioned this, so forgive me if I missed it. What if that Best Buy ALttP listing was for an updated "3D Classics" version like they did with some NES games on the 3DS? Not sure if that's technically feasible, but it would be pretty sweet. Make the pixel art characters pop out in the foreground and give depth to the background. Basically turn the game into a moving shadow box. I'd play it.

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd February (Europe)

tzahn

And they said HM64 was never coming to the VC...tease! Now I just need it on Switch for portability. If I wanted to play it at home I would just fire up my N64. If you haven't played this and you're an HM fan, do yourself a favor and get this. It may not have all the bells and whistles of the newer entries, but warts aside (mainly translation errors) its one of the best pure HM experiences. My personal favorite.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th December (North America)

tzahn

I downloaded AVGN since it was on discount, but what I'm really waiting for is Xenoblade Chronicles X! Bought it for myself as a Christmas gift and am waiting until tomorrow to open it. Damn me and my adherence to traditions!

Re: Rumour: Former Rare Composer David Wise Is Working On An Unannounced Nintendo Title

tzahn

@ricklongo Agreed, I would rather have a new DKC than a new Prime game.

Tropical Freeze is probably my favorite Wii U game. Yes, I liked it more than SM 3D World. The platforming was difficult, but fair. Controls were spot on. Music was sublime. The Snowmads are much better adversaries than the Tikis. All it needed was some K. Rool.

That being said, I wouldn't mind if this rumored game is something different altogether.

Re: Review: Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley (3DS)

tzahn

I shall just keep playing the old HM games, and by this I mean the 1996-2003ish era. It really is a shame that HM64 can't be put on the virtual console since I love that game dearly. Still have my N64 cartridge though and go back to it often.
