Pre-orders for the upcoming Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night have now gone live on Nintendo Switch. You can secure a download via the eShop or pick it up physically at select retailers.
The Switch release is scheduled to launch on 25th June - exactly one week after it arrives on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Standard pricing is set at $39.99 across the board, but US buyers can get a little more for their money if they know where to look.
If you grab the game from Best Buy (at the usual $39.99 price), you'll also receive an exclusive Novobox metal case. It should look a little something like this image below:
The standard release is also available for those in Europe; you can pre-order a copy right now from Amazon for £34.99.
Have you been looking forward to this one arriving on Switch? Will you be getting a physical copy, or will you just download it from the eShop? Tell us below.

It's also worth mentioning that they've announced the sale of a "Iga's Back Pack" DLC for $9.99.
Previously backer exclusive DLC, they've decided to release this separately so everyone can enjoy it "and provide less reasons to pirate the game". The DLC allows you to fight Koji Igarashi in a boss fight and obtain a special Swordwhip weapon.
Backers are still receiving this DLC for free when their receive their copies of the game.
In my country we have the pre-order last month but this metal case looks amazing.
I doubt I could get my hand on one of those.
Probably going to have to get this in the Eshop if my past experiences with backer delivery times are anything to go by. I really do want to play it day one.
The art looks amazing. But several people that played the Switch version reported issues with performance and visuals. Going to wait and if that will be the case, I'll get the PC version.
Damn I want that metal case, might have to find a US website as Best Buy does not like anywhere outside of the US
I don’t think this game has gotten enough hype/coverage leading up to its retail release. Hopefully this changes as Konami has more or less buried Castlevania and this is a game from the producer of Symphony of the Night! So far, other than a handful of articles the media around this game has been quiet. Fingers crossed it was worth the wait, excited to grab this one!
I'm still on the fence and may end up waiting a while after launch before deciding whether to grab it. It looks like it could be fun but isn't usually my style of game and I'd like to see how the Switch version holds up before making a decision. The box art is really nice.
This looks great! Will wait for reviews before deciding on a version.
Just like Sekiro, I dont want any frame rate issues ruining my timing and gameplay.
Ah yes once again it looks like north america does not include Canada. Maybe change the headline to just the US?
Definitely buyer beware until there are solid reviews to go on. Even without the supposed performance issues on Switch, this game hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt.
Already have this preordered from best buy!
People still use Amazon for video games in the UK with the likes of thegamecollection and Base?
As much as I love the look of that metal case, I think I'm going to wait on this and snag it in a sale eventually.
Don't like that the Switch version is (slightly) delayed. I don't trust kickstarter projects in general. And we still need to hear about what performance issues might exist in the full version of the game.
I'll wait until reviews, especially for the Switch version. Would not be surprised if this game gets ripped apart by critics and fans at launch.
@DockEllisD / @peanutbuttercup Apologies for the mix up with the metal case. The press release simply mentioned "Best Buy" - I checked the US store first (where the case is available) and assumed each store would be the same which was my mistake.
As for the US/Canada pricing, I'll mention this to the team now. 🙂
@TempOr just wondering, other than being released a week after the others, what red flags?
Kind of forgot that I backed this all those years ago until I got the email to "Switch" from the Wii U version. I wish backers would get the pre-load option, but I highly doubt that will be available. Hoping this is good. Curse of the Moon was awesome, and a great freebie for backers. I tend to prefer my "Castlevania" games to be level-based, so I hope that becomes a subseries on it's own apart from the Metroidvania that this will be.
@Realness
30 FPS is a huge one for a 2.5D game like this, there is no way around that feeling inferior in a game like this and depending on the game’s difficulty can make it unplayable at times. I’m even weary of it on PS4 if it runs anything like MN9 on it. Iga and Infanune’s idea that it HAD to be for 3D for their Kickstarted games is a very dated 00’s era notion, being 3D on UE3 massively bite Infafune on the ass so lets see how it goes with Iga’s game.
@tzahn this has also levels, but the levels are more like long mazes to explore for goodies and level up
I liked what I play of it earlier this year but I will wait for reviews and switch performance (as long as it does not have big dips in frame rate I will be happy)
@NintendoFan4Lyf Haha, guess I didn't think of that! I was more concerned with my ridiculously slow rural internet. I think it took me about 4 days to download the last larger game I bought (around 15GB). That's why I go physical when possible.
@Balta666 Cool, good to know! Haven't read up on it too much since it's already coming my way regardless.
If it reviews well on the Switch I'll pick it up. Pre-purchasing any game doesn't seem logical to me.
same week as mario maker 2, last year's release scheduled was lop sided too right?
@Faucet If you know for a fact you'll be playing a game on a particular platform (either because it's exclusive or because you're unwilling to play it on anything else), and you want to go at it as soon as it releases, then pre-ordering or pre-loading makes perfect sense. I'll likely be pre-loading Fire Emblem: Three Houses. There's no scenario where I won't want to play that game, so it makes no sense to wait on reviews.
I will sit back, and wait for reviews to release before purchasing the game. I really hope it hits the mark. If the switch version doesn't impress me I will grab the ps4 version.
My GameFly queue... is ready!
I hate being poor. So many games I want to play. Another one to my wishlist.
Already got it pre-order, I just hope the game lives up to all the delays it's been through.
Tempting, but I’ll wait and see how this turns out.
@SalvorHardin Truthfully, I’ve never been entirely sold on this game. Mostly because of the character animation. Seems a bit sluggish to me. The 30fps on Switch is to be expected, disappointing to be sure but, par for the course. There are aspects of the game that I like, but the game currently lands in the “definite maybe” range. Which is why I’m seeking out other’s opinions to help sway me one way or the other.
As long as the controls are better than Order of Ecclesia there is nothing to worry about.
all the gameplay I've seen so far has looked stiff n awkward. could this be yet another epic kickstarter flop? I hope not.. (nice artwork regardless)
'Giving away' a metal case for free? Lets hope the game isn't crap then. /suspicious
That's just a Best Buy giveaway @segamegadrive and the Case isn't made or sold by the makers of the game. Therefore this is no indication of the Quality of the game. Now if the game makers where giving away free incentives it might be suspicious.
@Faucet Many companies do not deserve pre-order, yes. BUT some games that you strongly believe in before they come out like Bloodstained, by pre-ordering them you give the devs the incentive to work harder and release a polished game.
However that works for like 10% of the game development studios, which is sad.
How did you play it earlier @Balta666 was there a demo that i missed or something??
@ryancraddock
We also get the steel case down here in Australia for the Switch.
So not just the US
Does it still suck on Switch? Don't know which version to get (PS4/Switch).
@BacklogBlues it was a demo but not on any platform. It was on a convention in London (and I played the pc version)
I'm not too worried about performance issues, but luckily the switch version is coming out a week late so there'll be some long play footage of the other versions out by then.
Thx @Balta666 i was really upset that i missed out on a demo.
@DockEllisD crazy, I know...I know, but Google (or my phone's built in app, a toaster oven, refrigerator, and lamp) have these amazing built in capabilities, which convert currencies. Being that "x", or in this case the MSRP, remains constant per law n what not (it's set by the company, not the store)...figuring out YOUR Retail Price per country would take approximately 8.2 seconds.
If Canadiadada were listed, all countries would have to be listed, as that just would not be impartial otherwise. And Drake would have a fit, as he's bi-country citizenship, so all remains relevant in the eyes of Mr OVO. I mean, what else would he be doing when not giving Nick-rhymes with Purse-Nurse (Raptors head coach, and cult leader of Jurassic Park) courtside rubdowns? After all of Canada is eliminated from the NHL playoffs, does the entire country get in the basketball train, or is that exclusive to Northern Buffalo/Toronto?
Tbh--Toronto has the best strip clubs on the planet Earth....
@DockEllisD no, it's inferred that people understand the currency exchange rate differential, and can do the math. I mean that's what I took it as. Guess you're not a sports guy though, as I was really curious what Canada does without hockey. And I complemented the high quality of the strip clubs? Condescending shmondescending.
I regret backing this. I did so because Shovel Knight turned out so well. The project has been poorly managed and backers have been treated badly with regard to the sudden and recent cancellation of Mac and Linux versions, which were promised day one. Unlike other platform cancellations, no refunds were offered. There has only been poor communication since then as it is clearly an issue they want to bury. Mac and Linux may be a small number, but they are more viable in 2019 than they were in 2015 when this Kickstarter happened. I know backing is a risk, but it would be nice if they at least tried to keep their promises, and address issues as they come up. I'll be sticking to only older Iga games after this.
I’m not going to preorder now. Exceeded my gaming budget for the month already. Will get it when the time comes though. Really like the box art.
I’m also happy to see that the Castlevania Collection is now 3 in Best Sellers on Switch. Looking forward to this spiritual successor and later hopefully a Castlevania Collection 2.
Preordered. I will keep any eye out on previews. If its still looking rough I'll just cancel
Take note that the steelbook picture will hold a Switch game as well but will still be blu-ray sized. The left side of the case holds Switch cartridge while the right side hold discs. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/454384411845197824/581236102640173064/60949340_10100729467973966_6578005201398005760_n.png
@Juanblue85 Noted and thank you good sir
@Zuljaras the metal case is for the PS4 version. It's for discs, not cartridges. I believe it's gonna be available through Best Buy in Canada and America.
@Lando_ Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was developed using Unreal Engine 4, something the PS Vita and Wii U doesn't support but the Nintendo Switch does. Why still think that the Switch can't handle this game when you clearly see that it handles Octopath Traveler (which also used Unreal Engine 4) just fine? Igarashi made the right choice by cancelling the PS Vita and Wii U versions otherwise those would end up like Mighty No.9.
@retro_player_22 Yes. But people who played the Switch version on PAX experienced severe framerate issues. :/
@BensonUii What store does have the PS4 steelcase version? Cant find it anywhere.
