Re: Guide: Improve Your Wii U's External Hard Drive Performance By Disabling Sleep Mode

teko

Yeah, why is this option hidden? I've never heard of this before.

I don't download a lot of big games but the internal storage is slowly being filled and I had to use a usb flash drive to download Tropical Freeze because I didn't want to have to get an external hard drive, since I really don't plan to download a lot of retail games. I hope it doesn't cause problems. Will this option affect how a flash drive works?

Re: Hands On: Hitting the Tracks in Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 2 and 200cc Mode

teko

"Like or loathe it, you'd be mad not to like it." What a curious sentence. There are also a few typos in this article.

Anyway, this is the perfect way to extend the life of MK8 and exactly how DLC should be done. The tracks look great for the most part and I'm especially excited to see what 200cc is like. (Wish I could say the same about Smash. I won't be spending money on any DLC in that one.)

Re: Zelda-Style Adventure Midora Runs Out Of Kickstarter Cash, Future Of Wii U And 3DS Versions Uncertain

teko

@Quorthon Actually I agree with your point about giving a bunch of extra "crap" for higher pledges. Developers (project creators) should be careful about promising too much extra stuff because that will eat into their funds. I guess in my personal opinion backers should pledge whatever they consider a fair amount to receive the finished product, and anything above that is kind of extra just to help the project creators, so actually I guess my point of view isn't that far from yours.

Re: Zelda-Style Adventure Midora Runs Out Of Kickstarter Cash, Future Of Wii U And 3DS Versions Uncertain

teko

@Quorthon I would say the exact opposite: kickstarter projects are much closer to investments than to charity. It's not an investment in that you don't expect to get back more money than you put in, but you definitely expect to receive a finished product, otherwise I don't see why anyone would back any project. Getting something back is not a bonus for backers, it's what they expect and what they were promised by the project creator. You don't give money to a project just to give the creators the opportunity to make something; you give them money because you expect them to follow through and deliver a product.

Re: Zelda-Style Adventure Midora Runs Out Of Kickstarter Cash, Future Of Wii U And 3DS Versions Uncertain

teko

This is exactly why I'm hesitant to pledge towards anything on kickstarter. I've pledged to only 2 projects, and not a lot of money to either one. One I have full faith it will be completed, the other was a bit of a gamble. Anyone considering pledging to anything should look into whether the company has a proven track record and has a realistic plan and budget for actually completing what they are proposing. (Unless you've got money to throw around and don't care if it's wasted, then I guess go ahead and pledge to anything).

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th April (North America)

teko

@dkxcalibur If you're still wondering, MH4U is around 20 000 blocks if I recall correctly, by far the biggest game I have on my 3DS, but I've still got plenty of space with just a 16 GB card. I imagine Xenoblade Chronicles will be at least as big if not bigger though.

Re: Review: Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures (Wii U eShop)

teko

I can understand why some people would find AVGN annoying but I personally love his videos and will probably get this at some point. For me he somehow manages to be simultaneously over the top profane and disgusting while still coming across as a very likeable guy. His analysis of games is generally interesting and insightful.

Re: Nintendo Reveals the Final Club Nintendo Elite Rewards

teko

@StarDust4Ever Thanks so much for all the info. Nintendo's help section wasn't all that helpful with info about usb memory.

I think I'll take my chances with a flash drive and download Tropical Freeze, and just keep the save files on internal storage as you recommended. Just like you said, it's not a game I would've paid full price for but I'm really happy to get it for free!

All in all I've gotten Pokemon X, Pikmin 3, Game and Wario, Mario 3D Land, and now Tropical Freeze plus a ton of virtual console games from Club Nintendo. I know a lot of people complained about it but for me it was great.

Re: Event: Join Us At Our Summer Nintendo Life Gaming Night

teko

I also would love to be there but live on the other side of the world. I actually lived in Cambridge for a little while when I was little while my Dad was doing research there. I brought my North American NES along hoping I could use it there but could never get it to work. In fact my Battletoads profile picture brings back memories of that time as I was obsessed with the game at the time. I'd love to visit Cambridge again only this time be able to play Nintendo while I'm there

Re: Yacht Club Games Announces Free Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows DLC Expansion

teko

@Mijzelffan I don't know what you were expecting. It's a retro style 2D platform game, and as far as games in this genre go, I think Shovel Knight is about as good as it gets. I thought the game play, animations, level design, music, characters, dialogue were all outstanding. I did think it wasn't as hard as a lot of people said.

Anyway, thank you yacht club games! I can't wait to revisit Shovel Knight with this DLC. Actually I feel like playing it again right now.

Re: Video: You NEED To Play Metroid Prime Trilogy

teko

@potatomage7 You can always delete it later to free up space if you find you just don't like it. and you might be able to get a used wiimote for a lot less than $40. It doesn't even need to have motion plus if you don't expect to use it for any other games. I will say that if you like action/adventure games with a lot of exploration, it doesn't get any better than Metroid Prime, in my opinion. If you don't like games from a first person perspective you might not like it though.

Re: Video: You NEED To Play Metroid Prime Trilogy

teko

@Superstick I have to agree with @JaxonH. I ignored Other M initially because of all the bad reviews. I picked it up much later for $5 just to see for myself, and I totally enjoyed it. I couldn´t understand all the hate it got. I'm sure you can find a cheap copy so don't hesitate to get it. It's not as good as the Prime games, but it's a great game in it's own right.

Re: Talking Point: Club Nintendo's Closure Is An Exciting Opportunity To Modernise Fan Rewards

teko

@TheLobster I hadn't thought of that but I also hope they don't erase my database of registered games. I don't know why but I like knowing they have all the Nintendo stuff I've bought registered.

I guess I'm also one of the few that liked Club Nintendo. I liked filling out the surveys because it made me feel like Nintendo cared about my input, and I never found them a chore or extremely time consuming.

I'm looking forward to seeing what games are offered next month. They said dozens so there should be something there that interests me. And I'm looking forward to whatever will replace Club Nintendo. Just as long as it's not a subscription service. that might be good for some, but I don't play online nearly enough to justify paying for it and if they include a bunch of free games every month most likely I wouldn't play them anyway. I barely have time to play the games I buy. Actually I need a holiday to clear out my backlog. I'd rather have free online for the few games I occasionally play online, plus some other completely free rewards or loyalty discounts.

Re: Interview: Exploring Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate With Mr. Ryozo Tsujimoto and Mr. Kaname Fujioka

teko

Great interview. I like what he said about veteran players making the online community a welcoming place. I didn't play much online with mh3u as I prefer to play locally with friends, but my experience online was always pretty positive.

I'm enjoying the demo but am having a hard time getting to grips with the insect glaive. Any tips? I can't get the hang of aiming the insect to harvest essences. It's not explained very well in the tutorial. I love being able to jump though.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st January (North America)

teko

@Funbunz @ChuJelly Same thing happened to me. I just bought Shovel Knight a few days ago! I guess it's only 5 bucks but still, it's annoying! Anyway, it does seem like its reputation is justified. I'm really enjoying it so far.

Re: Review: Darksiders II (Wii U)

teko

This game is currently 8$ on the eshop! At that price it seems you couldn't go wrong in checking this out but are the glitches really that bad? I don't want to be unplugging my wii u because the game crashes.

Re: December's Club Nintendo Rewards Aim to Bring Festive Cheer

teko

It's true that the monthly rewards have been weak but Club Nintendo has had some fantastic promotions this year. I got Pokemon X, Pikmin 3, and Game and Wario (plus 10$ in free eshop credit from the wii u games from the DDP).

I'm picking up Kirby 3 and Metroid to top off my DDP points for another 5$ eshop credit.

Re: Weirdness: Monster Hunter Series Producer Denies Existence of the 'Desire Sensor'

teko

@edcomics To your point, relating to my anecdote about the pallium, why would it appear in the tail? It makes no sense.

I agree you should be able to get any parts when you kill a monster. Maybe some rare gems should only be found in some monsters on the argument that they don't form the same way in all monsters, but aside from that, why can't you claim any part of the carcass? Maybe you could make the argument that some parts are not of a high enough quality in most monsters to make the equipment you want. Am I analyzing this too much? hahaha. I'm still looking forward to MH4U

Re: Weirdness: Monster Hunter Series Producer Denies Existence of the 'Desire Sensor'

teko

A friend of mine was trying to get a Brach pallium and was having no luck. Finally after countless hunts one appeared for him while he was carving a Brach tail, but he forgot that he was out of room in his pouch. As he was deciding what to discard another Brach appeared, screamed, he flinched and he lost the chance to claim the item. The pallium was within his grasp and then gone forever! He cursed the game and has hardly touched it since. hahaha! I myself got several Brach palliums seemingly without much difficulty.

Re: Guide: How to Beat Everyone Else in Mario Kart 8

teko

@BensonUii I was gonna say the same thing! I never use the brakes hahaha! I'm pretty decent but I'm sure I wouldn't stand a chance against these pros.

And to those saying it's all about getting lucky with items, in a single race maybe but over the course of many races the best drivers always come out on top.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Brings Circle Pad Doom in Japan

teko

@BensonUii I'm the same. I can't stand using an analog stick for any 2D platformer or racing games. on street fighter 4 on 3DS I only use the d pad. I was so happy that MK8 lets you use the d pad. It just feels so much easier to control. If the full version smash 3DS doesn't have the option to use d pad for movement I may skip it. I'm playing the demo and enjoying it but hate using the circle pad.

Re: Talking Point: The Super Smash Bros. 3DS Demo Has Been an Easy Triumph for Nintendo

teko

I think this early demo for select club nintendo members was overall a smart move but they should have included all platinum members. I feel bad for those that didn't get chosen. But giving 4 codes to distribute was a stroke of genius.

I'm really enjoying the demo and I wouldn't say it's necessarily "preaching to the choir". I'm still on the fence about getting both versions or just the wii u version, but this demo is really pushing me towards getting the 3DS version too. Most demos I've downloaded I've played only a couple times but I've put in a few hours on this one already.

by the way for the poll "are you happy with the smash bros. demo?" I was between the first two options. the second category shouldn't have included the qualifier "...but would love a bit more content" who wouldn't want more content? obviously Nintendo is not going to include too much content in a demo.

to the unlucky ones who didn't get a code, don't be bitter! it's only a few days until the regular demo comes out.

Re: A 3DS Can be Used as a Controller in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

teko

I guess that's cool for people with a wii u and 3DS who don't have extra controllers. I still had hopes there would be some limited local multiplayer cross-play between the 3DS and wii u versions, even if only on a few stages. I can't decide if I should get both versions. The real incentive for me would be a nice discount on the wii u version for registering the 3DS version; I don't care that much about soundtracks
