@Kaizen @pokedmund These were my thoughts exactly. I'm still using my original 3DS XL but I know it's going to die someday. The 2DS XL looks like a really nice option to be able to keep playing all my 3DS games.
I will get a Switch at some point, probably in a year or two from now. As a wii u owner I still don't see a reason to get one this year. It's way too much money to spend right now just to play Breath of the Wild and MK8 on the go and for the new battle mode courses in MK8.
So yeah, the 2DS XL is perfect for someone like me, and I don't see it having any impact on the Switch.
@liveswired yeah, I never understood why Nintendo insisted on calling the Switch a home console first and foremost. That never made sense to me from a marketing perspective.
@Henmii The issue of forced updates really bothered me with Smash. I never have had any intention of buying any of the dlc and I don't play online, only local multiplayer. The update for smash was pretty large, well over 1 GB if I recall correctly and I didn't want it taking up precious hard drive space, so I have to turn off wifi every time I want to play it. Seriously annoying...
At least these Breath of the wild updates don't take up extra space.
Keep the open world of BotW, add more overworld monsters and add a weapons and armor crafting and upgrade system something like Monster Hunter. Also add 6 or 7 proper dungeons. Do it Nintendo!
@Rumncoke25 personally I'd recommend 4U as the best single player experience. If you'd rather play on the big screen you could try 3U on wiiu. I couldn't get into Generations as much and the solo campaign is by far the weakest imo. Beware, there's a pretty steep learning curve for anyone new to the series.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE @Aneira I kind of have to agree about the graphics. I do think it looks beautiful, but I find it a little hard on the eyes after playing for a while, and would have preferred sharper more realistic visuals. The game is still amazing though.
I'm totally loving this game and don't regret for a second getting it on wii u and holding off on getting the Switch. Load times aren't at all an issue with the disc version imo.
@shadow-wolf The gamepad screen just shows a bit of text and it fades in and out when playing on the tv so it gives a pretty good boost to battery life, and the motion controls are very nice to have also.
I wasn't sure if I would get this right away, (too much to do these days) but I think I might have to get it this weekend and may just need to stop sleeping for the next few weeks.
Looks great. I enjoyed the first one but didn't find incentive to go back and replay it. I hope this one's a bit longer and expands on the possibilities of the first one.
I'm super excited to play this but sadly will have almost no time in the next couple months for such a huge game. I might have to wait until summer to really get into it
@BAN @gcunit I appreciate this site precisely because anyone can come and post anything positive or negative about Nintendo, but personal attacks and vulgarity aren't tolerated. It creates a better space for discussion.
I've been coming here off and on for several years but I've noticed a lot more hostility in the comments section lately. A lot of hostility towards anyone being critical of Nintendo. Not sure why that's happening so much more now. It's too bad.
@Antray1984 I would absolutely use a web browser on the switch. I hate using my phone in general. I can't stand staring at such a small screen and I just find it awkward. And unless I absolutely need to work on something on my laptop, I'd rather not bring it on trips.
The Switch has the potential to be my ideal portable device with a few apps added. I expect it will eventually live up to its potential but I'm a little disappointed it's not available at launch.
@yuwarite I agree with you. I do think the Switch was a smart move by Nintendo and I think it will ultimately be a success. But I am a little disappointed in the way they've handled the launch and will be holding off buying it for now.
I guess my comment was just to express my amusement that people get so worked up on these forums.
@BiasedSonyFan Why do so many people call @gatorboi352 a troll? I've never seen him harass anyone. I'm pretty sure if he were doing that he'd have been banned already since this site has pretty strict policies. so what makes him a troll? because he has a different opinion? Why shouldn't he come here and express his opinion? Why do people get so emotional over these things?
I've always preferred local multiplayer over online. I grew up with the NES and SNES... so many great memories playing with friends. And still now, Monster hunter or Mario Kart with a group of friends next to you is so much more fun than playing online imo.
@jaymacx I actually find video gaming can be a fairly inexpensive hobby, depending on how you do it. A lot of people will spend around a hundred dollars or more (could be much more if you're paying for a family) just on a single concert or sporting event or night out, and do that regularly.
In comparison, I'm amazed at how many hours of entertainment can be had per dollar with video games.
@NintySnesMan @BigWhoady "Well then I guess my mission is complete." I'm sorry. Could you explain to us exactly what your "mission" is? Please elaborate on that.
@business-scrub "Relax guys, just because it's not all there at launch doesn't mean it's not coming. It WILL get these apps at some point, in this day and age it is literally inevitable. So just chill." This is probably the most sensible comment. My theory is that Nintendo timed the release of the Switch with Breath of the Wild, (which they didn't want to delay any further), even though many things still weren't in place for the Switch. They expect there are enough people that will buy it at launch no matter what. I still think they haven't handled the launch very well. I went from super excited for the Switch because it could be everything I want in a portable system, to now waiting to see what other games and features are coming before I decide to buy one, especially since where I live the price is pretty steep.
@NintySnesMan Yeah, bigwhoady is a waste of time. I won't make the mistake of interacting with him again. I wonder if he doesn't secretly hate Nintendo and is playing the part of an over the top fanboy just for a laugh.
@BinaryFragger @speedracer216 Yes! Well said. It's also funny to me how some here act like being a Nintendo fan means you have to love and defend every decision they make. I'm pretty sure almost everyone who comes to this site are big Nintendo fans. I certainly am, but that doesn't mean I can't be critical of them.
@KirbyTheVampire @electrolite77 Isn't it odd how these people apparently defending Nintendo are telling people to NOT buy their products? Isn't it odd how they keep insisting rather vociferously that Nintendo should NOT cater to the desires of a large number of potential customers, even when all that's being asked for are simple features that could very easily be implemented without in any way detracting from other aspects of what the Switch is? I find that odd.
So I guess their sales pitch is, "Here's our product! It doesn't have a lot features many people would consider standard in this type of device! If you don't like that don't buy it! Screw you, you entitled little brat! Stop supporting Nintendo! We don't want you!"
@BigWhoady Anyway, why are you so against it having these things if other people want them? That's the question you have no answer for. You want it to be only for games. Why? why is that so important to you? What's bad about having more features? Why do you want to limit the Switch's appeal? You want it to be for some class of elite, hardcore gamers only? Why? So it sells less?
Think carefully about your responses because your credibility could drop to zero.
@BigWhoady I was talking about not having to carry around another tablet. But in my case specifically, yes I'd leave my phone at home because I much prefer messaging. I almost never use my phone for calls and frankly don't need it.
@daveh30 @BigWhoady The simple fact that a sizable percentage of people interested in the Switch want features like a web browser and streaming apps means it should have them. End of story.
If you don't want them then you don't have to use them. It won't hurt you to have them there, but many people want them for the convenience of not having to carry around other devices. What's so hard to understand about that?
Also, for your own good, please lose the smugness and condescension.
@SanderEvers But the Switch clearly is a tablet. I'm a bit baffled by Nintendo's insistence on it being first and foremost a home console. I myself, and I'm sure many others, view it as a portable device that can also connect to the tv.
I was very much looking forward to using it as an all in one portable device for gaming, internet browsing and video streaming. I hate using my phone for internet browsing. Seriously, how can people stare at those tiny screens?
As you say, Nintendo will most likely add a web browser at some point, but it seems odd to me to not have one at launch. Just another reason for me not to get the Switch at launch.
Those percentages are confusing. I assume they represent percentages of total votes counted for all the games listed (since I find it hard to believe only 38% of people buying the Switch are getting Zelda) But what's the point of showing percentages of total votes? Wouldn't it make more sense to show what percentage of people who voted are going to buy each game?
Sorry for being a statistics stickler. Can someone clarify?
@Yorumi The wii u doesn't exactly become a brick if the gamepad stops working or if the battery dies and can't be replaced. There are many games that can be played on the wiiu that don't need the gamepad at all, and the gamepad isn't needed to navigate the menu. As long as you have other controllers available you'll be able to play most wiiu games even if the gamepad dies.
Aside from off tv play, which is a nice feature, and a few games that use the gamepad as an essential part of the game, it really is somewhat superfluous.
@Beau_Skunk I feel exactly the same. I still love the wii u for the simple reason that between it and the 3ds I have an enormous library of Nintendo games from past systems available. With the Switch it's pretty likely I'd only get one game for it in the first year, and it's a game I could also just get on the wii u instead, and 400$ Canadian plus tax seems like an awful lot extra to pay. So yeah, the Switch looks like a great piece of hardware, but it's not very appealing at the moment. Until the Switch has a few must have games that I can't play on any other console, I can't see myself getting one. My enthusiasm for it was considerably diminished after the presentation.
@JaxonH Sounds good. Are you still playing Generations? I didn't touch it for a couple months but got back into it over the holidays. Is there still an active Monster Hunter community here?
@JaxonH yeah, fair enough. Maybe I'm just cheap, and I have never bought into any hype about anything, ever, since becoming a jaded old curmudgeon
I don't plan to get MK8 deluxe because I'm fine sticking with MK8 on wii u (don't really play battle mode) and I never got into splatoon. Even Mario Odyssey isn't such a big deal to me. Once Monster Hunter is on Switch, that'll likely be what convinces me and by then I hope to get another game bundled with it and save a few bucks. I waited to get my wii u and saved 100$ getting it on a sale, and didn't feel like I missed out by not getting it at launch. But hey to each their own.
@Jimmy_G_Buckets Yeah, same here. Playing Breath of the Wild on the go and getting slightly better performance over the wii u version isn't nearly enough for me to justify buying a switch at launch.
@Pod It should've been preinstalled as a tech demo without any price increase, like the miiplaza games, AR cards and face raiders on 3DS. Nintendo wouldn't be losing any money on it anyway as very very few people will buy this as a standalone game, (at least not at full price, maybe when it's 5$ in the bargain bin.)
As a free tech demo preinstalled anyone not interested in playing it could just ignore it but anyone who tries it out gets to see what the controllers can do and some might really enjoy it. And no one could complain about paying for it as it had no effect on the price of the system.
@marko I wonder if in the future they'll release a switch basic bundle (without the dock) at a cheaper price point. It would be a nice option if all you really want it for is as a portable.
Since it appears they're offering new features for VC on the switch (online play) I expect there will be a small upgrade fee for VC games bought on wiiu/3ds which I think is reasonable.
Does anyone else get the feeling though that the Switch is being primarily marketed to people who skipped the wiiu? With Breath of the Wild the only game I'm interested in so far, I'll stick with my wiiu for another year at least. Besides, as a Canadian, 400$ to make the Switch, with no backwards compatibility, isn't too appealing right now.
I got an invite a couple weeks ago for the event in Toronto but didn't pay any attention to it since I wouldn't be able to attend. I didn't realize there weren't that many people invited. I would have offered my spot to a fellow Canadian Nintendo fanatic but apparently the tickets are not transferable
It's so nice to see a developer following through on all of its kickstarter promises, even going above and beyond I would say. I don't think anyone would've complained had they chosen to charge non-backers for the dlc.
Amongst all the kickstarter debacles, Shovel Knight stands out as a shining example of how crowdfunding can be done right. Yacht Club have done an incredible job.
@nab1 Fair point. I quite liked Axiom Verge, but I'm not sure it deserves as much praise it's gotten. I got a lot of these games in the Nintendo Humble Bundles and definitely there are some real gems there. There are some very talented indie developers I'll be supporting in the future. I thought Bit Trip Runner 2 was great. I've had my eye on Teslagrad for some time and finally decided to get it now that it's on sale.
@sandman89 I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Affordable Space Adventures was extremely dull. I got it in the 2nd Nintendo Humble Bundle, played it for about an hour and never touched it again. Going from A to B in a slow, clunky ship with awkward controls isn't my idea of a good time. I can't understand the praise that game gets. I was glad I didn't buy into the hype and pay full price for it. It's an interesting concept but ultimately just not a very fun game.
I put hundreds of hours into 3U and 4U, and I got Generations on day 1 but honestly haven't had nearly the same level of enthusiasm for it. If XX (or GenU or whatever they would call it here) comes to the west I would get it maybe as a 20$ DLC or wait for a sale, but otherwise I'll likely just wait for whatever the release after that, which I hope would be on the Switch.
@ejamer Yeah, the Canadian prices for wii downloads seem outrageous. The only wii games worth paying that much for are Prime trilogy (which most should have gotten for 10$ when it released), Xenoblade, and maybe Skyward Sword.
so mynintendo continues to be crap, big surprise. I might actually use the zero mission discount though since I was planning to get that at some point.
@Furealz I enjoyed Other M. Mind you, had I paid full price for it I might have felt a bit ripped off, but I still don't think it's nearly as bad as many make it out to be. Certainly worth checking out as a bargain purchase.

Re: Feature: A Year in Development - Yacht Club Games on Digging In With Shovel Knight
Re: Feature: 30 Essential Wii U eShop Games
@TJF588 Maybe I'll have to give Affordable Space Adventures another chance and try out the coop mode, if I can find someone else to play it with.
Re: Feature: 30 Essential Wii U eShop Games
@nab1 Fair point. I quite liked Axiom Verge, but I'm not sure it deserves as much praise it's gotten. I got a lot of these games in the Nintendo Humble Bundles and definitely there are some real gems there. There are some very talented indie developers I'll be supporting in the future. I thought Bit Trip Runner 2 was great. I've had my eye on Teslagrad for some time and finally decided to get it now that it's on sale.
Re: Feature: 30 Essential Wii U eShop Games
@sandman89 I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Affordable Space Adventures was extremely dull. I got it in the 2nd Nintendo Humble Bundle, played it for about an hour and never touched it again. Going from A to B in a slow, clunky ship with awkward controls isn't my idea of a good time. I can't understand the praise that game gets. I was glad I didn't buy into the hype and pay full price for it. It's an interesting concept but ultimately just not a very fun game.
Re: Gallery: Feast Your Eyes on a Whole Lot of Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross) Screens
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th November (North America)
@ejamer Yeah, the Canadian prices for wii downloads seem outrageous. The only wii games worth paying that much for are Prime trilogy (which most should have gotten for 10$ when it released), Xenoblade, and maybe Skyward Sword.
Re: New North American My Nintendo Rewards Carry A Major Metroid Theme
so mynintendo continues to be crap, big surprise. I might actually use the zero mission discount though since I was planning to get that at some point.
Re: New North American My Nintendo Rewards Carry A Major Metroid Theme
@Furealz I enjoyed Other M. Mind you, had I paid full price for it I might have felt a bit ripped off, but I still don't think it's nearly as bad as many make it out to be. Certainly worth checking out as a bargain purchase.
Re: Nintendo Declines to Comment On Touchscreen Enquiry but Confirms Switch Dock and amiibo Features
It would seem strange in this day and age for it to not have a touch screen . I've always sort of hated touch screens though so it wouldn't bother me
