Re: Eager Fans Have Broken Down Fighter Changes in Super Smash Bros. Version 1.1.0

rp17

@Wonky_Kong Knockback is directly related to damage, so a change in damage will always result in a change in knockback. The only exceptions are set knockback moves (basically any move that doesn't kill even at 999%). D-tilt's new angle means that it trips more often, leading to heavy punishes or KOs, and can be even used as a edgeguard since it hits below the ledge. D-tilt was never an optimal combo move anyway.

Re: Eager Fans Have Broken Down Fighter Changes in Super Smash Bros. Version 1.1.0

rp17

@Whopper744 First, it's not like one guy made this. It is a community where someone checks their main(s) to see if anything is different and posts it on the forums. Then someone compiles it. And secondly, eventually someone data dumps the game and we have the definitive proof to what was changed and what wasn't.

So it doesn't really take much time especially for people passionate about Smash.

Re: Hyperkin Is Working On The Ultimate Wii U Pro Controller

rp17

@shani The wireless lag argument only applies to tournament settings. At home using a wireless controller is just fine. But at a tournament, having so many wireless controllers in such a small space is when the interference and lag starts to take place. And if you are a regular tournament goer, you will want to practice on the controller you are going to be using on the big stage.

Personally, I believe the Gamecube controller has a superior button layout for Smash Bros, but I prefer the Pro Controller for any other game.

Re: Feature: The Poor Career Choice of Super Smash Bros. Professionals

@Nintendo6400 ZeRo can beat anyone with just about any character. He has only ever dropped one set. He also doesn't just play Diddy. He is probably the best Captain Falcon and Shulk player. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqlocvevRsw

And for fun here's his Little Mac beating FG noobs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP22z56k7MY

Also, not to nitpick about the article, but his name is ZeRo not Zer0.

Re: Once Bitten, Twice Dead Coming to Wii U

rp17

@Einherjar Just because you forgot about it doesn't mean it was forgotten. It's still in the top 25 most played Steam games. Plus there is an massive update on the way to improve the graphics, the crafting system, adding in Steam workshop, etc. Basically the developer remade the game from scratch. So saying Unturned "failed" because it didn't get as big as something like Minecraft is pretty harsh. (Not to mention Unturned was entirely made by one high schooler.)

Anyway, as other people said I can play Unturned for free so why buy a worse copy for the Wii U? Maybe if it has something to differentiate them more.

Re: Curve Digital is Bringing the Eye-Catching Four Sided Fantasy to Wii U in 2016

rp17

I remember the Kickstarter, but I only really back things that will come to the Wii U. But now it will! And if anyone wants to try the REALLY old prototype for this game, you can get it here: http://thefourthwallgame.com/?page_id=80

@MeddlingIdiot I never really noticed that but you're right. The trailers are always very lackluster and dull, but the games Curve has made/ported are usually some of the best indie games. Maybe the unique gameplay is hard to portray through a trailer.

Re: Nintendo Picks Up Three Gongs at the D.I.C.E. Awards

rp17

@shonenjump86 Nidhogg is a fencing game on Steam. It is pretty cool, but is kinda lacking in the content department. If you want to try it, I would recommend the free alternative of Eggnogg+ on GameJolt. (This started off as a parody, but is slowly becoming its own thing.) It has even less content, but, ya know, it's free...

Re: Rumour: Terraria is Making Its Way to Wii U and 3DS

rp17

@Jayvir Then why are all the reviews on Steam negative. Starbound has the potential to be much better that Terraria when its finished... IF it ever gets finished. A "buggy, half-finished" game is not better right now. However, I hope it will be one day.

Also Terraria is going to have a space update sometime. I don't know how expansive it will be though.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Pro Players Tackle the Problem of Diddy Kong

rp17

I know most people on this site are not that serious or have never played someone that is. (No offense. I am no pro either, and I have never seen a pro online.) However, this means that most people here will not understand if Diddy is OP or not and/or how tier lists work. That said, Diddy probably needs a little nerf, whether to knockback or damage.

Yet, what is more frustrating, similar to what Mew2King said, is how casuals and competitives alike are so whiny nowadays that they beg for nerfs before they try to "git gud" and find ways to beat "so-and-so."

And for the record, to me it seems like Sonic is a bad match up for Diddy...

Re: Professional Super Smash Bros. Melee Player Talks Smash 4

rp17

@TheGreatBrawler I'm pretty sure Hbox meant that the new edge mechanic helps out casuals. Now even a noob can get back easily. However this doesn't mean the new mechanic is not competitive. For competitives, it means they have to very aggressive off stage when edgeguarding.

What I don't understand, is why everyone is talking these quotes as gospel. These opinions don't represent competitives as a whole. Furthermore, I don't think Hbox has even played Smash 4 that much. I've only seen him go to one 3DS tournament. Also his opinions sound like every other pro's DAY ONE opinion. But by now these thoughts have changed. While Rosalina and Duck Hunt are good, the best two characters as of now are definitely Diddy and Sheik.

Re: Rumour: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Data Prompts More DLC Speculation

rp17

@Bulbousaur You can do tilt moves with a D-pad just as easily as a Control stick... except for up tilt. But that's not a problem if tap to jump is off, which most people have off anyway on the 3DS version. In fact, I think that the D-pad would be more efficient to put in inputs faster and more correctly. Much better than the monstrosity known as the Circle pad.

@Mommar "And none of the characters I main have tilt moves..." You mean no useful tilts, because every character has them. And what characters do you main that have no useful tilts?

Re: Gallery: A Closer Look at the Six New amiibo Figures

rp17

@Hero-of-WiiU I think @Mk_II was referring to the clear pole that helps Link, Pit, Fox, etc stand up. And I kinda agree. They got Captain Falcon's and WFT's dynamic poses without it, surely they could have tried with the others. Not really a big deal though...

@TwilightV Technically Pit AND Zelda aren't new

Looks like I need to get Samus AND Captain Falcon now...... eventually. I'm kinda broke after preordering the $99 bundle...

Re: Exclusive: Masahiro Sakurai on Planned Accidents and New Ways to Play Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

rp17

@AJWolfTill No, not really. Competitve players like low knockback moves. These are the moves that set up for combos. They then use these combos until the opponent is at a high enough percent to KO. The boundaries being out farther means they need to get the opponents percent even higher to get high enough to KO. Furthermore this is the first Smash game you can influence how far you are knocked back with the control stick. This all means that matches take longer. (Ironic because the movement is much faster but it just takes forever for someone to die.)

And as I said before this is not a problem. It is just something different. It just means that you need to be very aggressive off-stage to get early kills. (And maybe the rule will change to less stocks to ensure a shorter match... tournaments can only last so long...)

@Senario I think Sakurai did a pretty good job at this game. He provided some interested mechanic changes for the competitives, while at surface level keeping things close to Brawl for the casuals. This seems to be the best game at balancing casual and competitive playstyles. It is much more approachable for newbies than Melee, but much more interesting and challenging than Brawl. Of course the game isn't out yet so I could be wrong.

I never understood competitive hate. I think most casuals don't understand is that competitves love Smash even more than they do. I am not trying to undermine how much some casuals love Smash, but competitives just love it that much more, to the point that some have literally dedicated their lives to it. Smash may be some casuals favorite game ever, but Smash is often competitves favorite thing in the world. And it is just sad to be mocked for something you are so passionate about.

Re: Guide: Everything You Need to Know About Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

rp17

@rjejr amiibo will be supported but will require a NFC stand to be compatible (unless you have a New 3DS.)

No one really knows how using the 3DS as a controller works. We just know this because there is a screen that states it is possible.

@Guitardude7 Wii U controllers working on a 3DS is not the same as a 3DS being a controller for the Wii U. I am fairly certain it is not possible. And I can GUARANTEE that Gamecube controllers won't work on a 3DS. You can't even use a Gamecube controller on the Wii U without an adapter. And the adapter connects with 2 USB cables, and I'm pretty sure the 3DS doesn't even have any USB ports.

Re: Exclusive: Masahiro Sakurai on Planned Accidents and New Ways to Play Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

rp17

@SCAR392 The problem is that the blast lines were pushed out further making it take longer to KO. This is made worst by the fact that most moves knockback were nerfed. Also DI was replaced by VI, something much easier and much more effective.

So the survivability in this game is ridiculous. Competitives are even considering going to 2 stock matches even less than the "slow, defensive" Brawl's 3 stocks.

However this isn't really a problem but a change. These changes encourage crazy off stage play (strengthened more by everyone's buffed recoveries). So anyone who calls Smash 4 Brawl 2.0 is either a casual (casuals love Brawl so shouldn't they be happy about that) or they don't understand Smash Bros.

Re: Super Smash Bros. on 3DS Lacks Circle Pad Pro Support Due to Processing Power Limitations

rp17

@tHeMarriedGuy There are some combos and button inputs that need to come out so fast it is obviously easier to use the c-stick. Such as Pivot smashes in Smash 4. It is also very key in performing a DACUS in Brawl. However I suppose these could theoretically be done without this... maybe... not exactly sure...

However, "the C-Stick can also be used to perform aerial attacks, in which case the attack will be performed in the direction the C-Stick is tilted." This allows you to do do a rising down air. Without the c-stick, if you pressed jump and then you pressed down and A you would immediately start fastfalling. The c-stick allows you to dair and continue going up. Likewise the wiki mentions using back air without losing your forward momentum.

Re: Sakurai Explains Reasoning Behind Removal Of Ice Climbers From Super Smash Bros.

rp17

@IceClimbers I wasn't talking about when they were revealed. The plan was to make a 3DS version before Uprising, originally, and thus it would've been Smash Bros. 4... but the Wii U would've gotten Smash Bros. 5 at a later date. So technically it wasn't planned for the 3DS only, but the 3DS was planned way before the Wii U one. Obviously now they have sorta merged and became two versions of the same game. (Although Nintendo may still consider them Smash 4 and Smash 5, according to a recent rumor that they have already started planning for Smash 6.)

Re: Sakurai Explains Reasoning Behind Removal Of Ice Climbers From Super Smash Bros.

rp17

@R_Champ "Ice Climbers get cut for Dark Pit, Dr. Mario, and Falco..." Falco?... Don't you mean Lucina. And I doubt the clones have anything to do with the Ice Climbers being cut. I agree with everything else you said though. Although Smash 4 was originally planned to be for the 3DS only (which would have been MUCH worst.)

I don't get why Sakurai was so determined to have the same roster on both. I don't care about the 3DS version. I don't care if it's good or bad, some people will like it. But now it adversely affects my Wii U version...

Re: Talking Point: The Growing Role of The Treehouse Gives Nintendo More Personality

rp17

@Grumblevolcano Yeah Japanese get the New 3DS will have an advantage over everyone else for who knows how long.

Variety would be great. I guess I personally can't get enough of Smash... Wii U that is. I couldn't care less about the 3DS version, which I feel will take up a majority of the stream. And please, for the love of all that is holy, please no more Smash Run!!!

Re: Talking Point: The Growing Role of The Treehouse Gives Nintendo More Personality

rp17

@DarkKirby Only casuals would call the C-Stick cheating. The other things aren't that bad. They obviously want to show off the game more than play it. And they were just having fun.

The tournament was the worst though. I realize they want to show of items and stage hazards, so that is fine i guess. And the 4 way battle, while not really fair, was due to time constraints. But the Sudden death, it just ruined all hype and strategy of the final match.

Re: Review: The Fall (Wii U eShop)

rp17

I have been waiting forever for this, having barely missed the kickstarter. But it seems a little too expensive, especially if you consider it has three parts. So I'll wait. Maybe there will be a bundle or sale or something when the others come out...

Re: NicoNico Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Broadcast Confirmed for 12th September

rp17

@Kaze_Memaryu Too late for the warning lol. Mister Peepers appears to be a sitcom from the 50's... :/

But with all the results, I know that probably is his name. Since there is no other original source, I think Duck Hunt Dog would make more sense than some obscure name on an old edited article.

And to be fair, he is usually just called Olimar. That's what it showed at the E3 demo... I think. But I know it is definitely Pikmin & Olimar in Japan. And it still shows the Pikmin first on all official websites, no matter the language...

@JellySplat That was about the first they confirmed when they announced the game. It practically went: "We would like to announce Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS... AAAND there is definitely no tripping this time!"

Re: NicoNico Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Broadcast Confirmed for 12th September

rp17

@Kaze_Memaryu Do you wanna check again? It's Pikmin & Olimar (Pikmin & Alph for his alts). http://www.smashbros.com/us/characters/pikmin.html

Can you give me a link that says his name is Mr. Peepers? I have never seen an official confirmation. And everyone that claims that's his name always links back to this article, which never mentions that name. http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/29565/making-of-a-myth-the-grueling-development-of-the-original-kid-icarus

Re: Mario Kart 8 DLC Coming In November, Features Zelda, F-Zero And Animal Crossing

rp17

We really didn't need a 4th Mario and Peach. And the non-Mario characters don't make much sense, but their still cool. But count me excited for the new karts and tracks!

Now Nintendo please a battle mode tracks! You made the best battle mode in years. You fixed all the problems and went back to the original formula. It had the potential to be as good, or maybe even better, than the SNES and N64 versions. Then you decided for the first time ever to not make any battle tracks. And that instantly dropped it to being the worst.

I still like MK8's battle mode. Probably just because I see the potential...

Re: Mario Kart 8's Hackers Open Up Over Their Plans and Ethical Dilemma

rp17

I hate the word hackers. It has too much negative connotations. There are modders and there are cheaters. Modders add content to a game and fix its shortcomings, whereas the cheaters ruin the experience for everyone else.

I have hacked Brawl and MKW. It started off as me wanting to fix tripping, but then it became more and more amazing as I started to add my own stages, courses, music, animations, and characters. It was awesome to be able to customize the games how I liked them. However I would never become a FTW hacker. Cheating to win a race is just pathetic.

I just get upset when people can't distinguish the difference between the different kinds of hackers and lump them all into something evil. These two are legends that took a great game (MKW) and found a way to make it even better.
