6. It feels fresh and I like the new racing mechanics, but as others have mentioned the grand prix mode should be more track focused. Knockout is a really nice innovation and I can see myself playing that a fair bit.
@Slain I made a similar post further up the thread, it certainly looks like we won't be seeing any internal artwork, I can't imagine Nintendo reinstating user manuals.
I think when you compare Switch2 to the PS5 and SeriesX it looks quite expensive as they're much more powerful home consoles. However, if you make the comparison with mobile phones and other portables, things start to look a lot more reasonable. So this largely comes down to perspective; personally I value the portability and love the games nintendo publish.
@AG_Awesome I believe the easiest way to find boardable abandoned freighters is to visit the junk dealer and buy coordinates. I would assume he can still be found on all space stations after this update (I've not checked)
It's nice to be able to play the game on modern hardware without needing to download community mods, Q2Pro and Yamagi spring to mind although others may be available.
However, the new online experience is lacking, no dedicated server support and a shockingly bad server browser! It would have been better to switch the old master servers back on, then include both dedicated server and peer2peer networking options.
I really don't know why they bother, ultimately these games get cracked in the end. Also, sometimes poorly maintained DRM solutions eventually prevent legitimate gamers from playing after a few years, so to some extent DRM actually pushes some gamers to piracy.
@Tourtus it's just like the original in all the bad ways, so will go floppy and get dust build up after years of use. It's also like the modern analogue sticks in all the bad ways, so rather than reproduce the excellent N64 optical sensor Nintendo went with the new sensors that eventually wear out and cause stick drift.
The thing that somewhat irritates me is; when the switch version of MK8 released I could play online without a subscription, now it's hidden behind a paywall. Although to be fair, the paywall is rather cheap, but at the same time it is also lacking things like party's, voice chat and messaging.
What I'm saying is, its just annoying all round. Paying hasn't actually made the online part of gaming any better.
@Antendo64 I have one, if you're like me and want to use it for the other NSO apps (Mega Drive, GBA etc) it's a pain. You'd be better off with an 8bitdo copycat controller that actually has a home button.
@Wexter yep, you're right my comments do apply to the base NSO. I don't agree that my dissatisfaction with Nintendos online service should be limited to the base subscription, although I do understand your argument. The poor online experience applies to both tiers of the service, as I cannot subscribe them separately.
Pointing out that I can use my phone or discord is simply making excuses for them. A Console is supposed to be a simple and holistic experience, if I want to faff about with third party services I'll go use my pc.
@Arkay I'm none of those things you mention and I don't consider it good value, especially when the basic core functions a gaming service requires are so lacking. Sure the 'free' content is good, but where is the party, voice and messaging support?
@NintendoEternity Prior to them charging we could play Mario Kart online for free. Now they charge for the experience and have added basically nothing for that extra money. Some 30-40 year old games, big whoop. What about some proper friend, or party support. Voice comms, messaging, achievements.
I'm sorry, I like the games Nintendo create, but as far as online goes I won't endorse mediocrity no matter how little it costs.
@Old-Red couldn't agree more, old games cost way too much. I used to enjoy coming across a bunch of old games at a car boot sale and sifting through for a gem.
SNES games have suffered with being over priced for a long time but it's slowly spread to other consoles. I play everything I buy so I don't even consider sealed copies, but something with the box and manual in good condition is nice. My favourite things about retro games are that they don't try to sell you anything, there aren't as many pointless collectables and I don't have to deal with online.
Well I'm interested for sure, love the look of the game play.
It's pretty sad that Nintendo neglect F-Zero, Star Fox etc, while at the same time churning out remasters and Mario games. Don't get me wrong, I like Mario games but I don't need so many of them on one platform.
@Specter_of-the_OLED There are options to remain family friendly, for example they could lock it behind parental controls. Or, only allow communication between friends. Animal Crossing, which is arguably one of the most family friendly games has in game messaging.
Before the days of mobile phones and skinny jeans (so I'm talking 90's/Early 00's) pocket space wasn't at so much of a premium. If you stopped me on the street back then and asked me what was in my trousers I would have had a GB Colour/GBA/GBA SP, wallet and keys. I'd love another Nintendo hand held that was pocketable. As good as the Switch is, I never take it unless I'm carrying a bag which makes it just that little bit less portable.
Funny thing is this is probably really quite easy for Nintendo to do, some kind of cheap mobile phone chipset a bunch of emulators and a digital storefront loaded with Gameboy/NES/SNES titles.
This is a useful article, but the burning question for me is how easy is it to transfer all my stuff to the new SwitchOLED. With the cloud this should be pretty easy, but what about games that don't support cloud save backup?
@Blakeava1821 Sorry, my mistake. I was misremembering the SNES control scheme. Either way, regardless of what each console calls the button in each position the layout should be the same. This is just a sloppy port.
I got this on the Xbox and curiously the controls on the Xbox are the same layout as the Snes. I suspect this is lazy mapping between the version on the part of the developer, where the B button on the Nintendo layout is where Microsoft Place the A button etc. They should really sort that out tbh.
Overall, a pretty lazy re release, they could have added a proper save game system with slots, better inventory management, rewind, widescreen.
Overall I wish I read the reviews before buying, the only saving grace is that this wasn't very expensive.
I'm torn by this, there is no easy way to get hold of or play many of these games. Take Cubivore for example, to get a good PAL copy you're looking at £500 on ebay, I'm not going to pay that and the game isn't about to be re-released as far as I know... So perhaps getting a ROM isn't quite so bad here? On the other hand, as a software developer (not games or anything interesting, I deal with corporate systems) I loath the thought of my hard work being ripped off.
I wonder if there will ever be a Project Gutenberg for games? Surely some of these older games are reaching the end of copyright.
Looks like it was designed by a secondary school kid using copy and paste. Honestly, most of these special editions look terrible and really aren't worth the cost.
I had it pre-ordered and was fairly happy waiting for it, then it arrived on Xbox Gamepass where I can play it both on the TV and PC... The only benefit left for the Switch version of that point was portability, which in any other year might have been enough but along came Covid, lockdowns etc, then the physical version was cancelled. Thus so was my pre-order.
Loved F-Zero on the N64 and would love to play a new entry on my Switch, I'd also like to see a new Starwing along the lines of the Lylat Wars. It's sad that Nintendo are happy to let these franchises fall by the wayside.
New consoles but the same old games with the same tired formula, this is why I cancelled my preorder for series x and why I bought the new Hyrule Warriors. Although I've not opened it yet as Animal Crossing has made a resurgence in my play time.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Team Open To More DLC: "Tell Us What You Want"
I'm interested in this game. But considering the price, it feels rather off putting to see some much extra paid for content so soon.
I guess this is the Sega cash cow. Gotta milk it all!
Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Officially Reveals Mega Man Season Pass Collab
***** season passes!

Re: EA Commits To Switch 2, Will Be Bringing EA Sports FC And Madden NFL To The System
Sorry, I'm not interested in the sports game yawn fest.
Bring some other franchises and I might pay attention.

Re: Yep, Metroid Prime 4's Box Art For Switch 2 Is... Corrupted
So they're doing away with the transparent cases?!
That means no internal boxart on Switch2
Re: Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle Will Be A "Limited Time" Offer
Just throwing in my 2cents on the price...

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Gives First Official Look At The New Console
@Unit_DTH one of my favourite games.
Re: Nintendo Will Hold A Switch 2 Direct Presentation In April
@The_Blue_Mage I've just been to https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/ where the date is localised to 02.04.2025, so I'd say that's confirmation.
Re: Nintendo Will Hold A Switch 2 Direct Presentation In April
@Zeebor15 I've never seen the numeric MM.DD.YYYY format used in England, unless you mean when it's written January 16th 2025
Re: Nintendo Will Hold A Switch 2 Direct Presentation In April
So 4th Feb then, unless you live in America. (Does anybody else use that date system?)
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Gives First Official Look At The New Console
The triggers don't look very analogue
Re: EA Apparently Exploring The Idea Of In-Game Ads In Traditional AAA Titles
Billboard ads in an f1 or football game, well kinda fair enough.
Not that it impacts me, I've pretty much abandoned modern gaming in favour of my gamecube library. Back then life was simple and fun..
Re: Ship Customisation And New Space Stations Arrive In No Man's Sky's 'Orbital' Update
@ClickBrick I've bought this game on several platforms (PS4, PC, Xbox) and had a similar problem, now I've bought a steamdeck and settled on PC.
I'm tempted to buy a copy on Switch just complete the set and to throw some money at Hello Games, I think they deserve it.

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom DLC - What Would You Have Liked To See?
I'd just like to switch off the weapon breaking mechanic. For me at least it makes the game a bit tedious
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Update Now Live (Version 1.2.1), Here Are The Full Patch Notes
I just hate the weapon breaking. For me it was the worst thing about BOTW and they just made it worse.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?
Gotta say I'm not overly shocked by those results. Most people here probably already have a Switch and the OLED isn't a massive upgrade.
I think this survey would be more interesting if you could ask people who don't currently have a hand held gaming device.
Re: Valve's Steam Deck Might Be The Closest We'll Get To A Switch Pro In 2021
