It's always nice when a long lost game is unearthed and today is one of those days. Reintroducing the cancelled Nintendo 64 title, Carnivalé: Cenzo's Adventure.
This obscure 3D platformer, developed by Terrraglyph Interactive Studios and published by Vatical Entertainment, was shown to the public back at E3 1999 and was based on an animated film of the same name that received a limited release in certain European countries. Preservation website Forest of the Illusion has now released this "unfinished" 1999 prototype build on the internet with the assistance of 'Baker64'.
In a nutshell, a group of friends enters a magical carnival only to learn they must escape it before they're trapped there forever. You can get a better look at this title courtesy of Tony from the video game preservation YouTube channel Hard4Games. As he explains, the title was abandoned after the studio ran into financial trouble.

Now we just got to get Dinosaur Planet in it's original form. As a big fan of Star Fox Adventures (the game Dinosaur Planet ultimately became), I would love to play the original in a completed format, and not just a beta ROM.
Now we just need to find where Mother 3 and Ura Zelda are...
Carnivalé: Cenzo's Adventure? Sounds like an unholy lost N64 game...best leave it sleep..
I love the graphic style they were going with, looks like Tim Burton and Genndy Tartakovsky got together to make a Professor Layton game. I have to agree with him though, if this game had ever released I doubt it would have sold very well unless there were big surprises yet to come.
Ohhh I remember this. I was planning on buying it, a shame it was cancelled.
For a second I thought it said "Carnevil" and my mind immediately thought there was an N64 version of that arcade game.
Talking about lost N64 games, what's the verdict on Dinosaur Planet? Is it the truely great version of Starfox Adventures, as it has been theorized for decades, or was Starfox indeed a faithful port?
I miss the Atari version...
I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE!!!! WOW!!! SOOOO COOL!! LOVE THE 3D AFFECTS AND THE COLORS ETC..
For those of you asking for Dinosaur Planet -it's highly unlikely a completed version of the original title exists because you can already see evidence of the game transitioning to a StarFox title in that early state (Sabre is already replaced by Fox for example).
@JasmineDragon the film was directed by the art director on nightmare before christmas.
Reminds me a lot of Rocket: Robot on Wheels. Hope that the data on the cart is well preserved!
@HammerGalladeBro Same! A friend and I played the whole game in a local arcade, back in my high school days.
I always appreciate atypical playable characters that look bizarre. Heh. I've never heard of this game before, nor am I familiar with the animated film. I'm now curious about both! I'll toss 'em to my Current Curiosities wheelbarrow.
Never heard of it or the movie...seems interesting. Guess I'll give it a go on my phone since it can emulate N64 just as well (or better with HD packs) as the Switch, which is laughable.
@HammerGalladeBro I've been hoping and praying that CarnEvil would one day receive a port to some system and I've yet to see that dream realized in any way. Back in 2011-12 @ a local arcade, my sister successfully beat CarnEvil all the way through with JUST enough money to afford continues
@ModdedInkling The E3 demo for Robotech: Crystal Dreams was put online 20 years ago. It was really awesome for what it tried to do. You should give it a try
Hopefully it comes to NSO
I’m always amazed at how these graphics used to be mind blowing! 😂 I still think about the environment pics, for an unreleased game, called Perfect Dark. They were in an issue of EGM! Especially the Blade Runner, meets, San Francisco, vibe of the city streets. THE RAIN! ALL… JUST AS AMAZING, when I finally played it. Fast forward to me playing it again, a few years ago, on Xbox One. I was like, THIS IMPRESSED ME BACK THEN! 😂 I don’t even want to think about how Golden Eye would play today! 😂
Still waiting for a Earthbound 64 prototype to be uncovered
Sounds like a rip out of the goosebumps franchise/shows from back then.
@ModdedInkling
I believe bits and pieces of Ura Zelda have already been leaked in the "Gigaleak" long ago, but was overshadowed by Mario 64's Luigi finally being found. I believe an entire empty castle and a few corridors/empty town settings were found, but lacking any interactable objects or collision. It's not complete of course, but we don't know how much of Ura Zelda was really completed before being canned. It is a very sizable chunk and I reccomend checking it out, some romhacks have already added collision to make it playable
@JayJ we both know earthbound fans never get what they want
I’m still waiting for Piko to release Dragon Sword for the N64 like they did with 40 Winks. Always nice to have physical releases of these unreleased games.
