Re: Rumour: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Won't Be Ready by March

@Blastcorp64 Unfortunately it's not just about translating, but localizing as well. A lot of cultural norms need to be considered. The guys over at 8-4 Play Podcast - the team behind the localization of Fire Emblem: Awakening, amongst others - have mentioned how large of a task it is to localize games with a ton of text (e.g. Fire Emblem) from Japanese to English. And not just English, but to English-speaking countries like America, Great Britain, Australia, etc., and how to make text from Japan make sense, culturally, to another nation. It's weird, but interesting.

Re: Video: Here's What It Felt Like To Get Hold Of Super Mario 64 Early, 20 Years Ago

The Sears at our local mall had kiosks for Virtual Boy, the SNES, and a brand new N64 - with Mario 64 - in the Fall of 96. My brother and I asked Mom to take us to the mall three days in a row to play and she, somehow, agreed. I stood there watching a girl play the N64 and kept smelling something awful. I thought she must live on a farm or something because she smelled like a horse. But then, when she left, I started playing Mario 64 and kept smelling the farm. I sniffed around and realized I had stepped in dog crap sometime earlier and probably forced that girl to leave the N64 kiosk because, as she is probably writing on some other website somewhere right now, "I had to get away from this weird N64 kid who was watching me play because he smelled like a horse. He probably lived on a farm!"

I was 12 at the time in 96 and mom bought my brother and I an N64 for Christmas. We knew it was in the house a few weeks before Christmas and we asked if we could just feel the controller. So she opened it and brought out the controller for her creepy children to feeeeeeel. We loved it. My brother promptly made Mario run in a 360 the first time we played it Christmas morning, just like the promotional VHS tape from Nintendo Power told him to do!

Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight

Best thing about those two pictures is that the first shows the reflection of a window and then in the second the blinds are closed and the owner has had two or three cold drinks on that table and left water marks. Makes sense. Every good leaker makes sure they close the blinds and throw back a couple of glasses of ice cold lemonade before posting a football shaped controller to Reddit.

Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U

@Whopper744 Agreed. That fan showing up at the end blowing the enemies away made me concerned that it's going to be another one of those "you need these amazing one-off skills to defeat bosses," which I really did not like.

Re: Editorial: The Legend of Zelda Offers Youthful, Optimistic Adventures in a Generation of Mature Quests

@Jetset Totally agree. After Nintendo's poor showing at E3, and (in my opinion) Playstation's great one, I bought a PS4 in addition to my Nintendo systems - it's my first Playstation since the PS1! But while I enjoy games like Star Wars Battlefront and Shadow of Mordor, I definitely still play Nintendo games more. And I'm like Thomas - I'm just past 30 now and still can't do the "adult" gamer thing. I never really could. And I still can't. More power to those who can play games like Fallout 4 over and over, but it just isn't for me!

I spent part of this past fall playing Fallout 4 and felt SO OVERWHELMED I gave up. Plus, every time I booted it up I felt anxious and nervous roaming through the Wasteland. Nintendo is comfort. A company that can give the adventure of Zelda, the strategy of Fire Emblem, the hilarity of Animal Crossing, and the sheer joy of Super Mario is and always will be my one true love.

And thanks for the editorial! Nice work Thomas.

Re: BOXBOY! is Getting a Sequel

Really surprised by NL's score on the original BOXBOY! I could have sworn they ranked it higher. I really enjoyed the original and how it kept me interested per world to see what new mechanic they came up with. Didn't even consider a sequel would come out though! Great news!

Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 10 Today

Definitely my first go-to website for Nintendo news. Used to be IGN, but this site has eclipsed them in terms of swiftness of reporting Nintendo news, interesting Nintendo features, and general love of all things Nintendo. Hope you guys continue to grow in readership over the next 10 years!

Re: Poll: Vote For Your Ten Must-Play Games On Nintendo 3DS

onlyonemello

I don't find Super Smash Bros. for 3DS to be "Must-Play" on 3DS because the WiiU version is superior. Don't get me wrong, it's still great. But, in my opinion, just not "must-play". I also feel that way about Ocarina of Time, but maybe less so about Majora's Mask given all the updates to that game. My top two choices are two franchises I had NEVER played before 3DS - Fire Emblem: Awakening and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. LOVE those games.

Re: Review: Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. (3DS)

@earthboundlink Agree with everything you said. I think the Alien Turn wait time was intentional and I found it to be effective in the setting the tension for the game.

Maybe it's a patience thing. In his review of this game on IGN, Jose Otero mentioned that multiplayer is like "Speed Chess". Well, I think the regular story mode is like "Normal Chess" haha. I don't mind waiting while the aliens make their moves.

I really thought I wasn't going to like this, but after playing the demo I only wanted more. And I honestly didn't mind the enemy turn. It gave me a moment to collect my thoughts. Plus, the music is just freaking rad. I can't wait for Friday here in North America!

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Twenty Three

onlyonemello

I recently made a pact with myself to only play one game at a time and not jump around from title to title. This seemed like a good idea at the time, and I really enjoyed burning through Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon that way (with some occasional stops at Rusty's Real Deal Baseball along the way). But then I heard about Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft and became hopelessly addicted. Not a WOW fan at all, but this got me. I'll also be playing some Super Mario 3D World in addition to some tabletop games with family and friends!
