@JohnnyMind great stuff! I don’t know how this got past me but watching the trailer it looks very good and fun. Definitely keeping my eye on it now. Thanks!
@JohnnyMind wow I didn’t realise that they were working on a remake of the original! It’s the only one I’ve played but I absolutely loved it, would be excited to play it again on modern systems.
Good stuff. Really looking forward to Inazuma Eleven myself, was hoping for a physical release, although it’s looking less and less likely as time goes on. I will probably bite soon, optimistic for a discount on digital in a few months time!
Good to hear. I've been very close to picking up Inazuma Eleven but it's a little too pricey for me. Hopefully there's a 25% discount in the next few months then I'll bite!
Have to say that I hate the practice of fighting games essentially holding back characters and then paywalling them behind season passes or whatever. It’s better than doing a full rerelease like earlier street fighter games I suppose but at least those games went to the effort of changing significant parts of the game as well and may have been a necessity due to consoles not having the ability to go online to download update patches.
Anyway, old man rant over. I tend to just buy the base version of all these games, even if the complete dlc version is on sale as well.
@JohnnyMind I’ve seen you share snippets of your gaming schedule during the what are you playing this weekend posts… crazy how many games you manage to juggle at once. You also seem to be freakishly organised about your gaming haha, love it!
@DemonKow ah yes I had my eye on the Crossbell games, I was close to picking them up a few months back but the Sky remake is obviously perfect for me. Hopefully they keep remaking them in chronological order!
While these are nice, pastel purple and green are probably my favourite combo from the original switch selection, it does feel a little underwhelming that they are mostly just black again.
@JohnnyMind I’m in the same boat! Really wanted to give this series a try, especially since I love the Ys games, but only having a switch I found it difficult to decide where to start due to certain games being missing from the switch game catalog. Ordered a copy of Trails in the Sky which should be arriving tomorrow hopefully.
This looks really cool but I can’t help but feel that it will suffer from a jack of all trades syndrome and disappoint in one way or another for trying to do too much. Will be interesting to see hands on reviews and then to see if they take on board customer feedback for future iterations. Sorry for being so sceptical and pessimistic!
It’s really starting to become a frustration that publishers won’t offer upgrades for switch 2 versions, square enix being one of the main offenders. I would happily pay a couple of pounds or dollars or whatever but realistically they should be able to offer it for free, just price the game for switch 1 & 2 the same. They can’t be making much money from people buying the same game for both consoles, just annoying potential customers.
Some really exciting stuff here, unfortunately the first few releases that have caught my eye are all dreaded game key cards; Final Fantasy 7, Dragon Quest 7, Resident Evil 9 and Fatal Frame 2. I wonder if I’ll finally break and pick these up in that format or splash the cash on full price digital considering my initial plan is to hold off for digital sales.
Very excited for Elden Ring, Duskbloods and Indiana Jones, so hopefully a miracle occurs and we somehow get actual physical releases for these.
This year might finally be the year that I clear my backlog!
This does look very good, however, the price, size and kinda disappointing battery size are off-putting for me personally. Nice to see Belkin taking on board some feedback and trying to improve their products though. Think I’ll be sticking with the official switch 2 case for the time being, it’s slim, basic and does the job.
Yeah it’s a bit annoying having multiple accounts but at the end of the day there are some Japanese exclusive games I want to play and importing the physical release was more than double the price. Seems as though US dollar eshop card are generally cheaper than a lot of other regions. I’ve also found that some new games are around 30% cheaper in Japan recently, Inazuma Eleven for example is around £40 in the Japan eshop opposed to £60 is the UK one. As much as I want to play that game, £60 is too much for me so maybe I’ll avail of this trick.
@ottoecamn you can’t but your account isn’t locked to a region, you can change the region in the settings of your switch or nintendo website. Only problem is that you can’t swap regions if you have credit on your eshop account, sometimes you can but you have to forfeit your account balance. You could just change your account region to US and leave it there if it’s cheaper, doesn’t really effect anything apart from the eshop. I actually have multiple accounts on my switch because I wanted to access the Japanese eshop and the US one while I myself am in the UK, sometimes certain games aren’t available here.
@ottoecamn I used to buy them from eneba.com and livecards.net but starting buying them from topcashback whenever there is a bonus cash back offer. Requires stocking up whenever they are cheap but I’m getting them about at about 20% off.
Unbelievable price, it’s likely going to be a few years before we see it at this price again. Congratulations to everybody who managed to snag a copy, a great game and an excellent port which really showcases what the Switch 2 is capable of, enjoy!
Have to say that I wasn’t interested in this game in the slightest until I realised it was by the Hitman developers. The trailers haven’t been great in my opinion but I’ll keep an eye on it since James Bond mixed with Hitman does sound like it has massive potential. I’m not bothered by delays, there’s only one Duke Nukem Forever.
@Henchdog I think this could still happen. It would provide an interesting budget choice for some folks and a way to extend the switch’s life for another few years. The vita tv console was fairly late in the vita’s lifecycle, wasn’t it?
@ozwally I did this with the physical. After getting the free switch 2 upgrade, the base game on switch 1 became 100% off in the eshop, so essentially you get both versions and DLC for £8.99. Seems a very reasonable deal.
@JohnnyMind well the first game isn’t very long, just looked it up and it’s only around 15 hours… I’m a little annoyed that I didn’t persevere and finish it now, think I lost my save switching to my OLED as I didn’t realise the game does not allow cloud saves.
@JohnnyMind I’m not so sure that it is necessary to play the original before the sequel. I played about 10 hours myself and while it was fun, it did get a bit dull after a bit. The story was very bare bones. I have heard that titanic scion improves in some areas but doesn’t address others. I would perhaps consider skipping the first game as the second seems to have a much more compelling story.
@OrtadragoonX it really is quite fascinating, the only version I’ve played is the PS1 original whenever it was released but keeping meaning to try the remake.
This article says that the port was actually handled by one of rockstars development teams:
I also had no idea that zero, RE remake and RE4 were all initially planned for N64, never heard that before so not sure how reliable that is, or maybe it just wasn’t public knowledge back in the day.
@Mgalens whoops, I think you might be right there.
Yeah to be honest I’ve liked every Nintendo console, home and portable. There only thing that let down some of them was a lack of third party support. It was particularly bad during the Wii & Wii U era, although N64 and Gamecube also had limited ports (and a severe lack of RPGs!).
I’m happy that the switch has mostly remedied this, even if lots of said ports are from previous generations, it’s still great to have a large library of games to choose from.
Really happy to hear that we are getting smaller cards. Hopefully that helps out indie developers who absolutely can’t afford to factor 64gb cards into their game prices. Now we just need to get the message across to the AAA developers, hopefully Japanese gamers feel the same way because I would love to start collecting Square Enix, Capcom and Sega physicals again.
@OrtadragoonX I’ve never actually played the N64 version but reading about it amazed me. They managed to compress it down to less than a tenth of its original size. I was sure that they must have had to make some serious compromises but can’t really find any mentioned online. In fact they actually rerecorded all the music and sound effects in higher quality and mixed it into 5.1 surround for the N64 version. Crazy stuff. Not to mention that they added several unique features such as an enemy randomiser which never appeared in any other port. Impressive stuff, they must have had some very talented programmers at Capcom back in those days!
@NolandC sorry but you’re completely wrong about the Wii U being more powerful than the Switch. It just isn’t in any regard. Nor did it have gamecube games available for it.
@MysteriousMudkip if anything the Wii U’s failure helped the Switch flourish since they had a load of decent exclusives trapped on it that barely anyone had played, giving Nintendo the opportunity to remaster and resell said games to bulk up the Switche’s game library. Wouldn’t say it was a great generation of first party titles but solid games nonetheless. The hardware gimmick of the Switch was probably its biggest selling point, much like the original Wii.
@shgamer I've not tried it yet, somehow it is a game that I have never once played in my life! People are saying that it almost looks as good as the PS5 version if that is anything to go by.
Generally speaking, I am very much content with 30fps but I imagine playing a game at 60fps makes it very hard to go back.
@Chrayfish I think you have to access it through the game's main menu by pressing Y. Have a search on reddit, it's a little buggy for some reason but people have explained a workaround.
@shgamer it is still free and I don't think that will change, it's not a limited time offer. If you have the physical card and buy the expansion, not only do you get the switch 2 version for free but you all get a 100% discount on the switch 1 base game, so essentially you are getting the entire game and DLC download for both consoles for the price of the DLC upgrade, no need for the physical card. Not a bad little trick if you can borrow the physical edition from a friend or a library.
@hXcBoomstick oh really? That would be reasonably impressive if it wasn't a such mess to begin with. I will boot it up later and see what I think, been meaning to play this for 14 years so maybe now is the time! Any reduction with the file size?
I fully expect the input lag to be fixed with a patch in the near future. They should be able to half that lag no problem with the resources they have available.
Interesting that they have managed to deduce that one of the reasons for the download being so big is that all the language packs are included instead of being optional downloads like the switch 1 version. At around 3gb per language pack, it still doesn’t fully account for the horribly bloated file size but hopefully they can do something about that along with the input lag which will hopefully please many potential buyers.
@FredsBodyDouble honestly I've no real idea how complex or costly it is. The RE2 N64 was hailed a miracle port, I'm not sure anything like that has been done since.
Yeah I'm also feeling about annoyed by FFVII being game key card, think I'm probably gonna wait for a sale on the digital copy, hopefully in time for the second part's release.
@FredsBodyDouble true but we can’t really say how much compression affects game performance and production costs. It does just seem as though companies are taking the easy, lazy and more profitable option with game key cards. Hopefully the tide is turning though.
This is promising but there's still the issue of 64gb not being big enough for some games. There is also the issue of limited read speed according to Ubisoft. There is also the reality that manufacturing these cards is probably going to be more expensive than ever due to chip shortages etc... this does not bode well.
However, I'd be delighted to get more proper physical releases on Switch 2 so I can spend money collecting games that I'll never have time to play like I did with the original Switch.
Was considering giving this a go due to it being a great game with a great switch port already, this is tempting me even more but what I really want is Baldur’s Gate 3 on switch 2!
@electrolite77 yeah that’s a great point. There is literally not a single console that had an online store where you cannot still access the content you purchased in past and we are getting close to 20 years now.
I still really don’t like the idea of game key cards. I suppose they are fine for some games that you might try and dislike, or games that you know you’ll only play for a brief time like sports games.
Was really excited for this, especially since they’ve decided to price it reasonably on the eshop instead of being greedy, but the more I think about it, maybe I should wait for a potential sale leading up to the launch of the second game in the trilogy since I’ll be avoiding the “physical” and honestly don’t really fancy waiting ages to play parts 2 and 3. There’s also the small case of my big backlog.
Have to say I was really excited then really let down by the original model, reviews of the follow up were mixed so I didn’t bother trying it out.
While I don't particularly dislike the stock joy-cons, I finally found the Mobapad M6 HD which is the premium style controller that was missing for most of the Switch’s lifetime.
That Mega Man 11 deal is great and I've a feeling it might be a one-off price since they just announced a new Mega Man game. Capcom did something similar with Okami whenever they announced the sequel and it hasn't dropped to that price again, so I would advise everybody to pick it up while it is so cheap!
Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak bundle is also a great deal, I've been tempted to pick this up for a while but just know that it is destined to be added to my backlog forever...

Re: Level-5 CEO Says He's Already Started Work On The Next Inazuma Eleven Game
@gcunit it’s sucks indeed, I think they explained that there is too much reliance on online play/updates to justify putting out a physical version.
My digital policy is also somewhat similar to yours but can’t see this getting that low for a very long time, if ever unfortunately.
