Re: Surprise! 'Skyrim Anniversary Edition' Lands On Switch 2 Today

@mattiasboden @Jeronan @libersolis thanks for correcting me guys! Hopefully that is helpful for some other folks, seems a little fiddly if you have to go through an in game menu to the eshop to find it, kinda like the Hogwarts Legacy upgrade discount. Any chance you can play without the cart this time?

@BrewsterTea yeah I see your point and I am somewhat that way inclined myself most of the time. Only thing is, I can't see many games supporting 120fps, especially as the switch 2 begins to age. None of the early Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives support it apart from Switch 1 upgrades, and not many of those have that feature either. Third parties are unlikely to go to the hassle of optimising their games to this extent a majority of the time and once they start porting current generation games it will be impossible in most cases. Bear in the mind that the Switch 2 also lacks full HDMI 2.1, so it cannot output 4k along with 120hz simultaneously.

Of course, if you have other platforms for gaming then looking for a higher refresh screen would be the smart option, but I think we will all be waiting for the Switch 3 before the need for such a high quality panel becomes a necessity. There is a possibility that the mid generation refresh could add support though.

@BrewsterTea I see your point but I don't think many games will have the ability to play at 120fps to properly make use of that refresh rate. There's only a handful currently and they are mostly indie titles like Hades 2 or Switch 1 upgrades such as Metroid Prime 4, so basically games that don't challenge the hardware.

I know there are advantages to using 120hz without the matching frame rate but is that really worth going out of your way to get a monitor for? Admittedly, for the price of this thing, you'd think it would have a panel with a higher refresh rate.

@h3s to be honest I don't put that much weight into reviews, it's more a barometer of whether a game is even worth me thinking about playing it. I will always gravitate towards games and genres that interest me regardless. At least in this day and age we have metacritic and user scores, although these aren't entirely immune to things such as review bombing.

Super Play definitely did have a based vibe about it but that may have been due to the time and perhaps helped partly by the nature of its britishness. Import reviews and added anime really helped to form the uniqueness of it, I was quite young at the time and it really shaped my interests as I was becoming a teenager (haven't changed much).

Anyway, I do feel that nintendolife is quite honest with their reviews and opinions, whilst trying their best to be very positive about things in general. The thing about this monitor is that I am 100% sure that it is a lovely bit of kit, had a look at them recently as I needed a new second monitor for my workflow, but all things considered the price is just ridiculous. Even at half the price, it would be expensive for what it is really.

It's sad but I've never really been able to find a magazine or website that captured my interests and opinions as well as Super Play once did. The follow up N64 magazine just wasn't the same, I gravitated towards to Edge for quite a few years afterwards but I found their arrogance and arthouse aura to be intolerable at times. Maybe it was just my impressionable age at the time but honestly I'm still kinda sad about the empty void it has left.

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

@The_Trooper49 have to say I agree, went and bought myself another OLED because I missed mine, sold it earlier in the year when the switch 2 was announced. It’s just much handier for portability and the battery life is awesome, handy because I love to play JRPGs and frankly, a lot of the ones I have in my backlog seem to look worse on the switch 2 screen.

@Damo @h3s while I do agree that the online domain of gaming reviews seems to be overly generous with scores in this day and age, it’s pretty obvious that publications and websites have always been given copies of games for free to review. Otherwise we probably wouldn’t have reviews of bad games or obscure indie titles. There’s no such thing as bad publicity after all.

That Super Play mention made me really nostalgic!

Damn are these nice looking! Came across them recently, along with another premium brand Sotsu, but unfortunately way more than I would probably ever spend on a small monitor.

Ended up with an Arzopa Z1RC from Black Friday sales on AliExpress, only arrived today but seems to be pretty decent quality, especially considering it was only around £60 compared to more than double the price on Amazon currently.

Re: Ongoing MicroSD Shortages Could Have A Knock-On Effect For Switch 2 Storage Availability

mackers84

@Satans_Therapist I do understand though. Hate having to upgrade these things more than once, it’s always satisfying to get your storage stored early on so you don’t have to worry. It crazy how large these memory cards are getting for the money and even though newer speed standards have bumped the price up for newer formats, it still blows my mind as somebody who remembers computer specs from the 90s.

Managed to grab a 512gb for £50 on Vinted a couple of months ago. I’m hopeful that it will do me for a couple of years since I’m only really playing new or upgraded games on my switch 2 and using my OLED to grind the massive backlog of JRPGs that I’ve accumulated.

I’m also a physical first sorta guy apart from indies and eshop bargains but it is becoming more and more difficult this generation.

Excited to eventually play these. Have already dipped my toes into the series; played the first one all the way through on PS2, about half the third one on PS3 and started zero on PS4 but Elden Ring came out and distracted me.

Unfortunately due to the game key cart fiasco, I’ll be waiting for an eshop sale to pick them up. I rarely pay full price for digital games unless it is a day one must play game or the freak occurrence that I’ve cleared my backlog.

Re: How Are You Finding Switch Game And App Compatibility On The Switch 2?

mackers84

@Mgalens I am hopeful but Nintendo’s history doesn’t fill me with optimism.

I actually went on eBay and picked up a cheapish OLED because I was so annoyed by the resolution on some games. Others seem to fair much better and I wouldn’t notice if I didn’t already know. I suppose it will be handy to have a secondary switch which is much more portable!

Re: Best Dragon Quest Games Of All Time - Switch And Nintendo Systems

@maritroidvaniapoke for the originals, I would say to play them in release order but these remakes were released in this order specifically so that people would play them in chronological order.

I have yet to play I-II HD 2D but I very much doubt there’s much difference in the way of downgrades when it comes to game mechanics, think they added extra characters since the original was just the protagonist solo.
