One of the unforeseen, but no less pleasant, announcements from the Nintendo Direct was that the collector's edition of Mega Man Legacy Collection would come with a golden Mega Man amiibo that will unlock an additional 11 challenge levels that are exclusive to the 3DS version of the game. As it would happen, the game will be a digital-only release in Europe, and many wondered if this meant the amiibo would be sold separately.
That's all been cleared up lately and, unfortunately, the amiibo will be a North American exclusive. This news will likely disappoint many collectors, but all is not lost. It was also clarified that the vanilla Mega Man amiibo will still unlock the bonus stages, so Europeans won't be getting locked out of any content that North Americans are getting. Here's the tweet:
What do you think? Does this news surprise you? Will you be importing it anyway? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Seems it will be more expensive than the gold mario amiibo, as you need to buy the bundle to get this...
Welp, another amiibo I will probably never have :v
Not surprising as Gold Mario and Silver Mario didn't come to Europe either.
I'd love to say some naughty words right now but truth be told, I am not surprised by this revelation. All I am asking for, though, is that we get some exclusive amiibos, too. NA gets some, EU gets some, JP gets some and AU gets some. Fair, right? Well, fair in the perspective of there being exclusive amiibos. I'd still rather have every region get the same.
Edit: Maybe I can get my dad to import it. I'd have to buy the european collection, too, though, because I don't have an american 3DS.
Yup, time to import.
I have a Gold Mario, somehow it'd feel wrong to not have a Gold Megaman too.
Im not amused
The blue bomber doesn't even look right in gold, anyway. This is a total cash in piggybacking on the success of amiibo. They could have painted him any of the alternative costume colours from SSB and it would have looked miles better.
@RupeeClock Maybe SEGA and Namco will jump in with their own gold amiibo sometime. Imagine four golden gaming icons displayed proudly on your shelf. I just buy amiibo for whatever uses they might have in games, so I don't care enough to preorder the collection.
there is an easier way to get one
buy the standard one and buy a can of gold spray paint
now you have a gold amiibo
Darn, that's another amiibo that will be impossible for me to get. I like to collect them, but there's no way I'm purchasing an imported region locked game just for the amiibo.
All this exclusive content to certain regions has been annoying me recently. I'm not sure now whether to keep buying amiibo if they keep releasing some that's impossible to buy in my continent.
NINTENDO OF AMERICA SUCKS, EUROPE GETS EVERYTHING!!!11!11!1!
Good. I hope amiibos had never come to Europe in the first place.
Looks a bit trashy anyway.
to be honest, I never liked the idea of golden or silver amiibo...
Smart move really. These gold and silver editions are just ways to get more money off fans. Its the same amiibo but its gold. American's will be happy to through their dollars at this, but Europeans know better. Gold/Silver Mario amiibo hasn't been officially released in EU so this news is no surprise.
So do Americans HAVE to buy the gold amiibo to unlock the extra 11 level or will the regular amiibo work like in the EU? My silver Mario doesn't get much use, but it did unlock a silver Mario in SMM, and only Yarn Yoshi gives you the 2nd Yoshi, so it's possible you need the gold. And if that's the case, well that's just meaner than not getting gold.
@rjejr I believe that the regular Megaman amiibo will work just fine.
Good. No one should need this amiibo anyway.
Good old NoE vs NoA rivalry. WHY CAN'T WE ALL HAVE THE SAME THINGS
Nintendo screwing its fans yet again? No surprises there.
@NintendoFan64 Well that's ok then. A skin is a skin. As somebody else said, might as well buy the regular 1 and paint it gold. Though I know if I were in the EU and wanted a gold Megaman amiibo I'd be annoyed to.
@rjejr Yeah, it is a bit annoying.
@whodatninja There's only one way to settle this...we have a duel to the death bewteen NoA and NoE!
@NintendoFan64 "we have a duel to the death bewteen NoA and NoE!"
I'll buy Reggie his plane ticket and supply him with a pistol full of blanks and send him right over. Or they could settle it in Smash and maybe Reggie will die of embarrassment from not knowing Up+B.
Why?
I like it most likely will be getting one yet when it comes to GOLD AMIIBOS I personally would like a GOLD LINK AMIIBO .
@C-Olimar
Yep. They always say that. I wonder what North Americans have to say about this.
Then again, why does this article even count as "news"? It's rarer when stuff DOES arrive here.
scampers be like: Welp even though it's just gold paint they spray painted over the blue mega man amiibo the only real thing the gold Mega man amiibo unlocks is value and I will sell over 100$ on ebay. (Me: smh)But I don't understand why they decided to not include Europe for the MM gold amiibo I mean seriously it's unnecessary not to make it not available for other regions of the world.
I'm not buying a f%$(*&g amiibo in order to get the full experience.
This is really shady of Nintendo.
Still got my hopes up for Australia. When it comes to Amiibo, we don't have that many problems. Heck, the worst Amiibo problem was the fact that Shovel Knight was an online exclusive.
There's still a chance. Hearing that Europe never got Gold and Silver Mario, while we did, I'm not too worried.
@allav866
Ummm... mega man is capcom
See, it's fair, because in the americas, we really like mega man. Brasil especially for some reason.
@khaosklub *fixed
Well, I might just have to get this game.... Hope y'all in the UK are having a nice day! (Evil laugh)
Aaaand... Done. Just pre ordered mine from GameStop!
Well that's not cool. I hope all of you in Europe can find cheap easy imports.
I consider this payback for you guys in Europe getting all the Club Nintendo favor. We in the US got very little for our participation, especially compared to what you guys got near the end of CN's life. (Soundtracks, Captain toad lamps, Mario kart trophies, goodbye coins, the list goes on)
So ha!
Hey guys, I happen to be from the US, so if you want this item, just let me know, and I'll see if I can help.
@SuperDjayIsHere oh, so does that make us stupid? Think about it like this, how many exclusive amiibos/video game bundles do we get over here? Yeah, not a lot, so, it IS really worth more than you think
@NintendoFan64 Chances are, we're going to win. Why? We get more physical copies of games than Europe does, which is kinda sad, but then again, Japan NEVER gets digital only releases so we still get less than Japan. You should see all the European Miku fans who just said "Nibelsnarf it. I'm importing" when they found out Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X was getting a digital only release, as the US and Asia got physical and digital release.
