@Vyacheslav333 Yeah, they change out all of the eroge scenes for somewhat more magical/mystical scenes regarding things like "mana transfers" and whatnot. It was a decision on the author/director's part because the company was moving away from those specific roots.
@Vyacheslav333 Yes but their Fate games came out 15 years ago - they also re-released F/SN with censorship and voices, called Realta Nua. That was also years ago, my bet is that gets remastered and announced for F/SN's 20th anniversary next year
Hoping to wrap up Witch on the Holy Night this weekend, then probably moving on to finishing my Nier;Automata replay so I can have a cleaner backlog by Christmas (though not by much).
It's hard to call it a "hidden gem" after being featured at EVO 2022, but you never reviewed Melty Blood Type Lumina. It's the only fighter I really play anymore. Characters feel very light and easy to move, and recent updates have made it more amenable to more hardcore players. Those unfamiliar with its predecessors or the visual novel that it's based off of might find the rather basic character designs to be a detracting point.
@SigmaNoire This one is sex-scene free - ever since the censored version of F/SN came out in '07 they've felt the need to drop the eroge aspect of their games to become a bit more legitimate in the public eye
I'm very tentatively interested, but until I can really see graphical improvements in the environments I can't budget $60 for this in good conscience. I missed Sword and Shield, and I suppose I'll miss this.
Yikes. Respect dropping for this man word by word. I'm more than happy never touching a Nintendo game again if it means I never have to touch a game ruined by NFT nonsense.
@BloodNinja Bandai most definitely puts out a lot of manga as well as anime, more than enough than to be considered an "on the side business." Their in-house anime studio, Sunrise, makes all the anime for Gundam and PreCure, which are both way bigger in Japan than in the states. Additionally, they publish a lot of the big video game adaptations of Shonen Jump manga - namely Dragonball and Naruto.
They need to pick up their pace. The most grating thing about both of them is how their hosts feel the need to try and inject more personality and conversation in between each game, which ironically has the opposite effect of making me hate every second of it. This ESPECIALLY goes for when the "trailer" is just the dev talking to the camera for four minutes with no gameplay or even a real trailer shown (this should also just be stopped in general because it's annoying). They need to go back to the basics and relearn from Nintendo Directs - at the absolute most, you throw in a couple of words hinting at what's next and a little jingle. At absolute most, you can have someone talk for over 20 seconds maybe every 10-15 games, but only when you're about to drop some news that's likely to matter to EVERYONE.
tl;dr, they need to cut it with trying to talk up each game a lot before they present it. It comes off as insecure and reads as a lack of confidence in what they're presenting.
Personally I'm a fan, as my eyesight is only getting worse and have had constant problems reading text boxes on other Switch games. I don't see any harm in making the text box size a setting in-game though.
Sounds like a good read - glad to hear it from a site and writer whose opinions I trust. Though if 40+ hours is long for you, I kinda dread what would happen if TsukiRemake or F/SN ever got official Switch english releases. The latter clocked in at around ~150 hours between all three routes for me.
@Magician The author rarely has his works published in anything but Japanese (with any English translations being historically... shaky), so I'll be more surprised if we see it in anything else, ever. On the flip side, the credits are in Romaji as well, so maybe there's a translation in our future?
Always very happy to see VNs highlighted on Switch - too much time is usually delegated to simply debating whether they qualify as games to begin with.
Personally, I'm still waiting (in vain) for a Tsukihime Remake localization announcement. Only then will the Switch VN catalogue be a little closer to complete.
Nintendo's quaking in their boots thinking about all the old games they wouldn't be able to resell for $60 with a mediocre Switch port. Or all the games they can forcibly push into obscurity, never to be seen again because they're "not profitable." You won't catch me crying with them.
He more than deserves it and I couldn't blame him if he goes for it - the games he makes are wonderful, but I'd rather he stay healthy more than anything.
Still no Fire Emblem Amiibo costume it seems. You'd think it'd be intuitive with the high fantasy theme and all. Oh well - no new functionality for my FE Amiibo collection, so I've lost interest.
I played this game with a friend where one person would hold the wiimote and the other would hold the nunchuk. Personally I thought the game was fine, though the flying sections drove me nuts sometimes since I was delegated to wiimote.
Played through all of the Western games + Zero/Ao last year and was enamored by them. I'm excited to see this come to Switch like Cold Steel 3, but I hope NISA is seriously considering porting the Zero/Ao Switch/PS4 ports they're getting in Japan. Not sure if Cold Steel 1+2 still falls under XSEED publishing in the US though, but I'd love those as well.
Would kill for Path of Radiance on Switch, as the Tellius games were the peak of the series for me. Upsetting that this is almost certainly fake. Would love to be proven wrong by a Direct though!
I really don't care much for Mario, so I'm not too interested unless they expand past that. I wouldn't dare to hope for any mention of Fire Emblem in the Japan or Orlando parks, but some Zelda would really go a long way.
@nessisonett I can't imagine them doing anything too creative with the food here outside of the deserts. I'd expect deep fried mushrooms though.
Mostly excited for the Mii fighters since I never liked what I played of the original FF7. Since Crono is likely dead as a potential fighter, maybe we'll get him as a Mii Swordfighter? A girl can hope.
On this week's episode of "Nintendo does something within their rights but still completely unlikeable." It feels like every other day they do something to spoil the decades of goodwill they've earned. What a shame.
Personally hoping for Adol Christin, or maybe a Trails protagonist. I've been on a Falcom binge since quarantine started, hopefully someone at Nintendo has been too. Most likely though, we'll end up with Crash or Dante. Worst case scenario, we get Geno.
@TheGameChallenger No, you'd need to get 1. The game and 2. The DLC - Game costs $60 (and unfortunately really doesn't get discounted, even when used), and the expansions cost $30 altogether.
Me, a wary consumer: There's no reason this shouldn't be on NSO. Not to mention the limited time-only nonsense AGAIN, not that long after receiving a torrent of complaints about a similar practice with the Mario packs. It's a concerning tactic that will either end in mass backlash, or the migration of the practice to more AAA game publishers.
Also me, a Fire Emblem simp: crying as I pull out my wallet
A Fire Emblem movie or tv series would be great - though I think the Tellius games would probably pan out a lot better as a source material than the multi-route catharsis-allergic Three Houses. Majora's Mask would make a good Zelda movie, and I'd be down for a Metroid movie as well. I just hope they look at their non-Mario franchises once they're done with the Mario movie.
They have to know Fire Emblem is a title that sells well in the west - they wouldn't have gone to the effort to give Three Houses a global simultaneous release if they thought it would only make money in Japan. Why don't they bring titles like this over? It makes no sense to me.
Excited for this, though I gotta admit that I'd be a lot happier with something from the Persona sub-series. Here's hoping this sells well so they don't get cold feet about a main-line Persona game coming to Nintendo.
I guess I just don't get the appeal of Mario, cause I'm not excited by this news at all. If anything, I'm upset that this will likely dominate the rumored Direct on the 20th... assuming that's even happening.
@RazumikhinPG It is commendable! But unlikely. Call me a cynic, but regardless of whether the scene in question now bothers Swery, it's the company that stands in the way of that change without a larger push for it. Then again, considering they have to put out a patch for the FPS anyway, the idea of tacking on this change becomes a lot more possible.
Man, I must not be hanging out with the right trans people, cause I haven't heard the mass outrage that usually accompanies a developer apologizing and changing the script on an already released game. It's starting to look like this needed a lot more time in the oven than it got - and apparently, more quality checks.
The Pokemon Company - and the rest of Nintendo - should drop Tencent like the rancid hot potato they always were. Sadly, that was never going to happen to begin with: too much money to be made.
Side note: I could be completely wrong - and please correct me if I am - but I was under the impression that channels could only turn off comments, not likes/dislikes.
Will it, though? They had companies dropping out long before people started talking about the coronavirus outside the context of China. I'd love for it to come back with that convenient burst of information at the start of each June, but I have some doubts the game industry will still take them seriously by that time next year.
Not real big on any of the ones featured, but I'd definitely open my wallet for a Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn remake where the models are less... garbagey. That and Chrono Trigger.
