Re: Pokémon GO Strips Away Stay-At-Home Safety Features In The Middle Of A Pandemic

It's an odd move. I can see why people are annoyed.

Personally, I've found what hatches from eggs are usually not worth the hassle. The "Dragon" week showed that in an amazing way. Either the stats are poor or I got Tepig for the hundredth time. I think I've had one shiny and one max IV Pokémon hatch since the game started.

Good that some it the other benefits are now permanent such as the daily bonuses and remote raid passes.

Re: Transfers Between Pokémon GO And Pokémon HOME Will Have A Cooldown Period

I didn't think Niantic would monetise transferring Pokémon between games but here we are.

Since I've not been lucky enough to catch any shinies in the mainline games a part from Red Gyrados. I've been saving shiny monsters to transfer so I can have some on the big screen. I don't mind it taking forever to do, but that is a seriously shady business practice.

I wouldn't be surprised if stardust is also used.

@Northwind @pod
It is indeed physical copies. It's all formats that can be bought physically. There were plans to include digital sales but that's quietly gone away since Nintendo doesn't release digital numbers anywhere.

Also, in the UK at least availability has been strong. I had no problems picking my copy up from Amazon (Inc £5 discount, win!) on Friday. The Nintendo UK store has sold out though.

Re: Random: Microsoft Shuts Down Rumours That It's Buying Sega Next

jsw-8

@Brummieendo90 yep, it'll be horrible if Microsoft gets any bigger.

I think that they're buying studios to explore the option of becoming a huge publisher if Series X and S fail to hit the mark.

The only console they had that challenged the norm was the 360 and that's because of Sony's mistakes but Sony managed to turn that around. Xbox One and the OG has been nowhere near as successful as Microsoft hoped.

Re: Random: Microsoft Shuts Down Rumours That It's Buying Sega Next

I don't think Microsoft would know what to do with Sega if they did buy them. Most of Sega's income comes from outside video games.

If we look at the reason for Microsoft buying Zenimax (GamePass), I think it's more likely they'll go for EA as they've just rolled EA play into the service.

EA have had a close relationship with Microsoft in the same vein as Bethesda since the first Xbox and their sport and RPG games fits with the Xbox demographic.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 3D Sonic Game?

jsw-8

Eek. That's not a good list. I'm sure some people will love the 3D games but I'm not one of them and not just because of the play style.

Granted I've not played colours which is supposed to be the best one, but still. Eek.

Re: Microsoft Has Just Bought Bethesda, Giving It Doom, Fallout, Elder Scrolls And Wolfenstein

jsw-8

Even though Zenimax is a big corporation this is bad news. There will be less options across platforms for gamers to choose and less original games.

Think about what Microsoft did to scalebound. If Platinum was self publishing, that game would've released. Instead they spent 5 years only for Microsoft to pull the plug and for platinum nearly went bust.

I can see Microsoft only using them for specific series such as id for Doom and Wolfenstein, or putting Arkane on Dishonored only.

Look how long it was between Rare games after they got shoved on Kinect, or that Ninja Theory are making their first sequel after a pretty perfect story.

Re: Nintendo 3DS Production Has Officially Come To An End

jsw-8

I thoroughly enjoyed the 3DS from its release until today and definitely beyond. It's the only console I've played so much I had to get a replacement!

I tried to fix it but the screws stripped and I couldn't get into it without breaking it beyond repair. I was gutted.

Re: EA Is Considering Bringing EA Play And "More Great Experiences" To Switch

jsw-8

Hmm. I think this adds more fuel to the Switch4k rumour rather than current hardware. They always seem to get a bit press happy when a new console is coming.

If EA Play only allows access to games on that system then it'll be pointless since it's just reskins of FIFA and a few other titles. This is totally an EA thing to do, so perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions.

But if they're looking a full service that would mean pushing either streaming, which hasn't been tested outside of Japan, or they'd need more powerful hardware to run games like Battlefront and Battlefield.

On its own, it looks like EA trying to get money for not a lot of work but when it's combined with Nintendo's quietness on its pipeline & some big 3rd party games going dark (Hey Doom Eternal, Prince of Persia, the rumoured Tony Hawk port, Crash 4 etc), I think something big is coming soon.

Re: Thunder Lotus Apologises For Ableist Storyline In Spiritfarer, Pledges To "Correct The Mistake"

jsw-8

Haven't played the game but I thought it strange that after one complaint the Devs decided to step in.

I initially thought that the team shouldn't have made changes because it's one point of view - someone could well want to be free of a wheelchair.

However, after reading the statement and follow up replies from Thunder Lotus I can understand their reasoning. Here's what I'm referring to from their Twitter:

"Also, without getting into too far into spoiler territory, saying this is the character's own perspective doesn't actually hold water."

So if this isn't the message the team wanted to convey, then I don't see the problem with changing it.
