Like a few here mentioned, a huge chunk of the Sega arcade catalogue is missing I guess Sega killed the switch ages lineup cause they don’t like money??? So still a big gap ANOTHER big gap is the lack of Midway/Atari arcade classics!! HUGE GAP- way too many awesome games to list!! Sorely missing! Cmon Warner Bros!!
@Beaucine Ahhh Moon Patrol! What a classic! Never forget the first time I saw it in the arcades. Later bought the Atari 5200 cart and was a pretty darn good port. Great game!
Was always a player for 40 years and still play today but due to life demands i have evolved more into a collector more and more. EVERY SINGLE TIME I promised myself I’m gonna dive into a game I bought it doesn’t happen. I own more than 7000 retail games with more than half probably still factory sealed with many more in mint condition and thousands more games downloaded so my backlog is insane! I try to play whenever possible but with having a family with 2 kids in college, an English bulldog puppy, watching after my health AND 50 plus hours a week running a business it’s nothing close to when i was a teenager with zero responsibility. Damn I wish I was 17 again!! Sooo many games to play and no time to play them!
Some of my physical collection highlights included:
Complete Atari 5200 LIBRARY
177 Atari 2600 games
63 Atari 7800 games
36 Atari Jaguar games
Over 425 Sega Genesis games
77 Sega CD Games
52 Turbographx games
197 Sega Dreamcast games
212 Sega Master System games
85 Sega Saturn games
73 Wii U games
Over 900 Wii games
212 N64 games
233 Snes games
115 Nes games
363 Switch games
473 PS4 Games
323 Xbox One games
485 GameCube games
377 original Xbox games
623 Xbox 360 games
611 PS3 games
477 PS2 games
Over 100 PSP games plus 97 UMD movies
77 PS Vita Games
377 DS games
217 3DS games
100’s & 100’s of GBA, GBC, GB carts
Definitely leaving some stuff out lol
Wow! 250 stores?? I’m 54 and gaming since I’m 12 and never heard of them. Perhaps they were west coast only?? Regardless a complete shame to see this happen! Another blow to the retail video game’s very existence. I wish them well.
@Gerald would be great if Hamster can do a deal but sometimes I feel as if Hamster is not interested in securing American made arcade games for their line up. Again would be awesome because Warner bros isn’t doing anything with that classic IP. 😌
@Gerald Joust, Robotron 2084, Hydro Thunder, San Francisco Rush, Satans Hollow, Smash TV, Tapper, wizard Of Wor, Gorf, Marble Madness, Total Carnage, xenophobe, Xybots, and many others!! Would love to see it happen but Hamster will have to knock on Warner Bros door for permission. Would be awesome though!
I still maintain that the Switch eshop store just plain stinks! If only Nintendo can at least mirror the layout of the Wii U eshop - just that move alone would be a tremendous improvement!! I just don’t get why they don’t improve the Switch eshop 🤷♂️ And Navigating 1300 games on sale is a big huge pain in the butt and takes too long!
I have to get it just because of Extreme alone! I ordered the invincible bundle from Strictly Limited but yes I agree 3 titles is really skimping out! At LEAST throw in the various classic iterations??
Great news!! Super pumped to see Carrier Air Wing, Giga Wing & Progear in the mix. LOVE carrier air wing! On the downside, many titles missing from previous arcade collections. Still awesome though and I assume will see this on Xbox & Playstation! Meanwhile the Switch is such a retro arcade classic beast!! It’s awesome! SEGA are you paying attention?? THIS is what you should be doing!!!
WHERE would us retro gamers be without Hamster’s efforts on the Switch? 😊 countless arcade classics available and many lesser know titles reintroduced as well! And according to Hamster, hundreds of titles yet to come!!!
My only gripe is the availability of the Hamster line up on Xbox is limited for some reason to Neo Geo games only and I’m not sure sure why!! With Xbox’s excellent backwards compatibility efforts all these classic titles can’t be brought forward to the Xbox series X and that just stinks. Otherwise, Hamster is a retro beast!!
And by the way what happened to Raiden?
Outrun for sure was my favorite release along with Virtua Racing. Matter of fact, I assumed with the release of Virtua Racing I thought for sure would finally be the start of seeing more “newer” Sega arcade games like Power Drift, Virtua Cop 1&2, Crazy Taxi, House Of the Dead, Sega Rally Championship, Virtua Fighter series, and Sooooo many more but obviously not going to happen right now! Still scratching my head over this decision to pull the plug at a mere 19 titles! Cmon Sega!!
@Lionyone the $40 price tag has put me off lol. So as much as Queen is my all time favorite band I put it on my wish list for now and will wait on a sale down the road. 😊👍
@Lionyone from one huge Queen fan to another I agree it’s a bit slow - it is exploration based but I haven’t played it for years. So I just grabbed it for $2 and will give it another shot.
Sigh Sega! It all started when the Japanese arm battled with Sega of America in the decision making to make the Genesis a success in America. All downhill from there through today with the stupid ass decision like pulling the plug on the Sega ages line and limiting those games to just the switch. They missed out on a ton of money not having those games on PS4! Somebody like Microsoft should snap up Sega quick and grab all those precious IP’s before they go down for good. I’ll always be a big Sega fan no matter what happens just like i still am a fan of the old Atari. I wish Sega well. They brought me countless hours of joy gaming on their consoles!
@sixrings not complaining about this week’s entry at all but I was thinking the same thing, Raiden is a great and classic shooter!! Maybe next week. ☺️
I totally disagree with him! My switch has been docked since the say it launched- if It didn’t have the TV docking option i would lose interest in the switch quickly! I have no need for the portable feature yet. The hybrid ability of the Switch is partly what makes it hugely successful!
@yuwarite pretty insightful stuff lol- of course I was speaking to my current games and systems and yes unfortunately the future is going digital but I’ll still be able to play my current cartridges and discs on my current systems. Backwards compatibility will play an important role for sure but I won’t be in a hurry to rebuy my physical games again no and the majority of them will NEVER become available again either but overall It is bad news for us collectors!
@GrailUK if I’m not mistaken I believe Atari published the arcade game in the USA. They had a deal with Sunsoft back then which included games like Kangaroo and I could swear I saw it once but didn’t try it.
@Ooyah absolutely agree all 3 games! I think all 3 will hit eventually and Bubble Bobble is on PS4 for a while now. Yea my wife says to me Yea you can remember all that video games crap yet you forget to take out the trash! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m gaming since the 2600 and I’ve never heard of this one i gotta say. Looks interesting But of all the Taito games out there this is an odd choice as opposed to: Operation Wolf Operation Thunderbolt Qix ANY Space invaders game Jungle Hunt Bubble bobble Rainbow Islands Space Dungeon Chase HQ 1 or 2 SCI special criminal investigation Aqua Jack Arkanoid ANY Darius game Phoenix Zoo Keeper Continental Circus Flying Shark Hellfire Time Gal Hit the Ice Jupiter Strike Parasol Stars Insector X Final Blow Ray Crisis Ray force Ray Storm Thundercade Tiger Heli Truxton Twin Cobra 1 & 2 Now maybe Hamster will get to these over time but with 800 games in their arsenal it may take a while. But any of these would be IMO a better and more well known choice. 😊
@masterLEON thank you for that! Oooh SUPER COBRA!! You know they DO have an American site lol. I’d show you but I’ve no clue how to throw images up. 🤣🤷♂️
@Atariboy I’d love to see the Atari Games and Midway classics but Warner bros is sitting on those games. They need to step forward or sub license them to Hamster if they don’t wanna bother! Robotron 2084 one of my all time faves!
The ones that stand out to me are Liquid Kids, 64th Street, Green Beret, Thunder Dragon, Rabio Lepus and of course Gradius III. Thank you Hamster!! Much Love ❤️
Also- I remember my son was 9 years old and bought $2,000.00 worth of madden DLCs in the Apple store unbeknownst to us. when it hit my credit card statement my wife and I had a near heart attack! I called Apple explained the situation, established a passcode to prevent further purchases without our approval and got all our money back! Thank goodness! Lol
Figures that Nintendo has the most difficult return policies for digital purchases. They’re NEVER in a hurry to part with their money, always so careful and one can even say cheap but cheap is not always consumer friendly. I remember the NES days when they NEVER allowed the retail chains like Walmart to accept returns from customers and Walmart did it anyway because THEY had their own return policy for their guests! They were at odds over this for years! I always wait for mad sales But if I had a dollar for every digital game I bought over the years that i didn’t like or it was broken or unplayable, I’d have a few extra grand laying around!!
Just wish they kept the Ages line going! 😌
And I realized by looking through the 3DS games on sale that a lot of those ages games never came to switch either! 🤨
Nice little 8-bit collection for starters but where’s the 16-bit big Guns mentioned in this article?? I hope not too long after this. At some point I have to disconnect my Genny and make some room!

Would love to grab Space Invaders but NOT at $30!! $15? Sold

Re: Taito's 1984 Action Platform Game Ben Bero Beh Joins The Arcade Archives
@Ooyah believe it or not that list was off the top of my head lol so I figured missed a few lol
Re: Taito's 1984 Action Platform Game Ben Bero Beh Joins The Arcade Archives
I’m gaming since the 2600 and I’ve never heard of this one i gotta say. Looks interesting But of all the Taito games out there this is an odd choice as opposed to:
Operation Wolf
Operation Thunderbolt
Qix
ANY Space invaders game
Jungle Hunt
Bubble bobble
Rainbow Islands
Space Dungeon
Chase HQ 1 or 2
SCI special criminal investigation
Aqua Jack
Arkanoid
ANY Darius game
Phoenix
Zoo Keeper
Continental Circus
Flying Shark
Hellfire
Time Gal
Hit the Ice
Jupiter Strike
Parasol Stars
Insector X
Final Blow
Ray Crisis
Ray force
Ray Storm
Thundercade
Tiger Heli
Truxton
Twin Cobra 1 & 2
Now maybe Hamster will get to these over time but with 800 games in their arsenal it may take a while. But any of these would be IMO a better and more well known choice. 😊
