Re: Mario Memories: Super Mario Galaxy 2: A Tale of Hype and Expectation

jgibson75

The SMG games may very well be NY favorite Mario games. I adored them, and I've been playing Mario games since the first SMB hit NES. I would no doubt buy a SMG3, but I think it would be awesome to introduce more playable characters (like were on offer in SMB2 and Super Mario 3D Land/World. Would be cool to play as Peach as she floats from planet to planet...

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games

jgibson75

Gotta say I largely agree with the man. We gamers can be a whiney bunch at times. And worse than that, too many of us have a very self centered point of view, as in if I don't like/want something, then no one likes or wants it (or even worse, they view anyone who disagrees with them as idiots).

Re: Suda51 Isn't Done With No More Heroes and Travis Touchdown

jgibson75

Loved those games, especially the second one. It had a little more gameplay polish. But until we get a NMH3, how about a Suda 51 Nintendo Cult Classics Collection for Wii U or it's successor? Include all his Nintendo made games, especially the two NMH games and Killer 7. I'd buy it.

Re: If Chibi-Robo Ever Came To Wii U, He'd Be Very, Very Shiny

jgibson75

Getting Zip Lash for sure. All the hands on and gameplay videos I've watched all seem to point to a fun game that makes good use of the character. That said, I want a full console sequel to the oddball but incredibly charming original GameCube game. The Wii U would be the perfect home for a proper sequel to the original Chibi Robo. I'd buy it day one.

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd July (North America)

jgibson75

Getting Streets if Rage and will probably get the retail disc version of Legend of Kay. I enjoyed that game on PS2, and if nothing else, I'd like to add it back into my collection so when my son gets older I can introduce the game to him. I already have the Binding of Isaac on PS4. Really twisted, lots of fun.

Re: Ubisoft Launches Its eShop Summer Sale in North America

jgibson75

I own a good chunk of these on one system or the other. Best deals are Shadow Wars, a 3DS launch game that is still one of the best strategy games on the system.. I wish they had made a sequel with online modes. Child of Light, a super charming , lovingly crafted RPG at a steal of a price. I'd also say Splinter Cell 3D, though flawed, is a great portable SC game based on one of the best entries in the series.
And though I prefer playing some of these Wii U games on PS4 due to better online /DLC support, if Wii U is your primary console, AC: Black Flag and SC: Blacklist are fantastic games for any price.

Re: Industry Analysts Speculate On Nintendo's Future And Satoru Iwata's Possible Successor

jgibson75

I love how even after the runaway success of the launches of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, people are still clinging to the 'consoles are dead' idea. Yes, they are and will continue to evolve. But there is no reason to think that there will always be a market for dedicated gaming machines, be they disc or other physical media based, download/streaming devices or a hybrid, gamers love their gaming hardware. Sure, the portable market is in danger of being swept away by mobile, or becoming more niche. But I have yet to meet a hardcore gamer who thinks they will ever be satisfied with mobile gaming becoming the go to way to play. I want to play games like Fallout 4, Zelda, Metal Gear, Mass EffectEffect, Splatoon, Uncharted, Forza Horizon on my TV wit h a controller. That isn't going to change. Sure I'll play Doctor Who Legacy on my phone while waiting at the doctors office, but when I get home, I'm firing up Xenoblade Chronicles X or Star Wars Battlefront on my consoles. That is true gaming to me.

Re: Poll: What Do You Want From Nintendo's NX Platform?

jgibson75

@ferrers405 all that plus cross buy and backwards compatibility for Virtual Console /eShop purchases from Wii/WiiU/DS/3DS. And backwards compatibility of all disc based Nintendo systems, from GameCube to Wii U. Make this the ultimate Nintendo system.

Re: Talking Point: Raw Power Isn't Vital to Nintendo's NX, But It Does Matter

jgibson75

Hopefully they learned their lesson with the Wii U and make the next system distinctly separate from the 'Wii' brand. Part of the problem with the Wii U is how long it took a lot of people to realize it wasn't just a fancier Wii with a new controller. My own mom, who is slightly into games, told me she didn't know why we needed one when most folks already had Wii systems in their homes. She thought you could just buy the Control Pad and use it on your Wii. I knew several people who had similar misconceptions. That is just one of the many challenges the next system has.

Re: Talking Point: The Fragility of Buying Download Games

jgibson75

@DarthNocturnal Could be true. Games for Gold came out long after PSPlus started offering free games, but I never checked into their terms. I just assumed they were similar.

Edit: Did some looking, seems Games for Gold on 360 allows you to keep them/play them (offline) if your Gold sub runs out (though there are many on the net complaining that this isn't true, once they let their sub run out, they could not play those games without resubscribing.)

But for Xbox One, the terms state that a Gold Subscription is required to access these 'free' games.

That is what I learned with a bit of looking anyway.

Re: Talking Point: The Fragility of Buying Download Games

jgibson75

I too prefer physical, but over the years I've given in more and more on buying digital games, largely due to big sales on offer on PSN/XboxLive/NintendoESHOP. I mean, I wanted a physical copy of Asura's Wrath for my Xbox 360 after having rented it and enjoying it. But the cheapest copy I could find at the time was $30. I was about to breakdown and buy it when Xbox Marketplace ran a special: the digital version for $9. I've ran into this and now own quite a few digital games. Not to mention the limited ownership free games I get from PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold. I have access to them so long as I keep my subscriptions up. I'm rambling. The point I was getting to is this: many of us long time life long gamers who remember how things used to work may be the only thing holding back the eventual conversion of most entertainment going all digital. We are the few hold outs. I look at the future, my nieces and nephews for example, all but one of them could care less about physical media. The rest of them have no interest in buying CDs and Blurays. They download or stream most of their entertainment. To them, that is normal. So in the end, we are the last hold outs. Companies are probably just waiting for our numbers to thin out before flipping the the lights out on physical media. Makes me sad, and makes me feel really old. Lol

Re: Poll: Is It Time For a Fresh Alternative to the Virtual Console?

jgibson75

I adore the VC. It is one of the best examples of keeping the games of our past alive and well today. But they need to start getting more games out. At the very least, if it was available on Wii VC, there should already be a Wii U upgrade for those games. Second, take a page from Sony and offer cross buy. If you buy the game for Wii U, you get the 3DS version free or visa versa. We need more platforms opened up. Glad to see DS and Wii games joining the VC market. But how about GameCube? How about Sega Dreamcast? And lastly, they are pretty good to run promotional pricing on eShop indie games, but we need to see more sale promos for VC games.

Re: Review: Pokémon Rumble World (3DS eShop)

jgibson75

I really enjoyed the first 3DS Pokemon Rumble, so naturally I was happy to see a genuinely enjoyable semi sequel here and not just a quick F2P cash in. The social features are some of the best on the handheld (short of offering actual multiplayer).

Re: Talking Point: Mario Kart 8 DLC is a Winning Formula for Nintendo, But It Can Go Further

jgibson75

I want more tracks and IP crossovers (particularly from Metroid, Star Fox, Kid Icarus and Splatoon). I've long been hoping this series would turn into sort of a Nintendo All Star Racing, or Super Smash Bros Kart... encompassing the larger Nintendo catalog of characters and worlds for racers, karts and tracks.

That said, a proper battle mode would go a long way to making this hands down my favorite MK yet.

Re: Poll: What Are You Most Excited About in the Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 2?

jgibson75

Yes make more DLC packs in the future! Add in Metroid and Star Fox themed tracks, karts and racers the way they gave us The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing in the latest DLC packs. Give us Samus as a racer, maybe even an armored version and Zero Suit version. Two tracks based on Metroid games. A kart inspired by her own ship, and maybe a second kart inspired by Ridley. Then on the Star Fox side, give us Fox, Falcon and maybe Wolf as racers with two different Star Fox tracks and a kart inspired by the Arwing, an ATV inspired by the Land Rover and maybe a bike as well with a dinosaur design as a nod to Star Fox Adventures. Or make the bike modeled after Falcon. So many options with those two franchises.

If they want even more, they can bring in Kirby, Splatoon, give us more from Zelda (like a Princess Zelda racer, or Tingle for that matter). All of this brings me closer to my dream of a full blown Super Smash Bros Racing.

Re: Nintendo Reveals the Final Club Nintendo Elite Rewards

jgibson75

Ugh. I have all of the games offered that interest me. I don't have the 3DS Mario Party, but don't want it. I don't have Mario Golf, but history has shown me I get bored of any and all golf games after the new wears off. I was hoping Mario Tennis for 3DS would be an option. I really enjoy those on console. Or the new Mario vs Donkey Kong. Or any of the recent Pokemon games as I only have one of those... Oh well. I may get a code for something to give to one of my nieces or nephews.

Re: Talking Point: Star Fox for Wii U is an Ongoing and Surprising Mystery

jgibson75

@ULTRA-64 I've said the same thing! I would lose it over a Platinum Games made Star Fox! (or a Platinum Games Metroid action game. It could be fun to see Samus kick butt Bayonetta style in a more story driven, faster paced title...that isn't Other M, which failed hard on the story and pacing front. I'd trust Platinum to do it right. Also, I wouldn't want this type of Metroid game to replace classic or Prime style Metroid, but just like Hyrule Warriors, it could be fun to see a different take on the franchise).

Re: Talking Point: Star Fox for Wii U is an Ongoing and Surprising Mystery

jgibson75

I love Star Fox. My son to be (will be joining us this week!) is already nick named Star Fox in honor of Fox McCloud. So yeah, I want the next Star Fox game is a return to glory, and less the next Wii Music. Miyamoto is one of my heroes and a game design genius, but he has made a couple of miss steps in the past, usually when trying to double down on a hardware feature, be it motion control or now dual screen controls on Wii U. But I'm willing to be optimistic.

Re: Feature: 20 Wii Games We'd Love To Download From The Wii U eShop - Part Two

jgibson75

Good lists. I would agree with most of the entries. Games not mentioned that I'd like to see are:
Boom Box Bash Party - both the original and Bash Party entries in the Boom Box series were a blast and made great use of the Wii's strengths with motion controls and great same room multiplayer, but the Bash Party sequel was the better of the two with a wider range of play modes and tightened physics. If you have fond memories of same couch competitions on the Wii but missed this gem, grab some friends, find this game and get to bashing some blox!

Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All Stars - A fantastic fighting game much in the spirit of Capcom's Marvel vs Capcom series but with a very eclectic roster of fighters and a control scheme that is easy to pick up without sacrificing the depth we look for in a good fighter.

WarioWare: Smooth Moved - I love the Wario Ware games, and the Wii version offered some really wacky moments that still bring a smile to my face when I think of them.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruin of the Moon - such a beautiful, haunting, unique RPG. It didn't do well in tbe U.S., but at the right price, hopefully this overlooked gem could find a new audience on the Wii U eShop.

Re: Feature: 20 Wii Games We'd Love To Download From The Wii U eShop - Part One

jgibson75

Good list. I'm a big fan of Okami, Little King Story, Kirby's Epic Yarn and No More Heroes 2. Of course I already own those on disc (as well as several others on this list). But I'm always for games getting another shot last an audience. Personally, I wish they sold GameCube games on eShop. The only reason I keep my original Wii around is to use to play my GameCube games. And I'm missing a couple of GameCube games that I'd love to have in my library (like Star Fox Assault and a couple of the Mario Party's I regret selling years back). Lastly, I too wish they would release the lovely HD remastered Okami to Wii U (as well as PS4/XboxOne). I would buy the game again to have it on current systems (I've bought the game 3 times already. The original release on PS2, the Wii port and the PS3 HD version). I adore that game.
