For the latest Wii release to get another chance on the Wii U eShop, Nintendo has given us something a little different in Treasure's Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies, or Star Successor as it's known in North America. A sequel to an N64 game that never even made it out of Japan (until a Virtual Console release on the Wii), this is a title that is typical of the studio behind Gunstar Heroes and Ikaruga.
Expect to shoot and be shot at a lot, so you'll need to keep your wits about you, and sharpen your reflexes for an on-rails shooter with a difference.
We've produced a video featuring a selection of scenes from the game's first two levels, so you can see what this title is all about, before clicking that "Buy" button (and you really should). It's out this week in Europe and hopefully soon in North America.

This game was on sale last week at Best Buy for $6.99 but i had to drive 45 mins for the nearest store that had a copy. Was going to order it online and have it delivered but forgot to do it. Now I'm kicking myself for forgetting.
Got it on disc last week for €13. It's a good game.
If you like on-rails-shooters I also recommend RE:Darkside Chronicles.
This is one of the best games on the Wii. If you didn't support it, you failed Nintendo and Treasure.
Also, don't be fooled thinking this is an on-rails shooter--as it is not. It's got much more in common with shmups, particularly in that you actually have a character that needs to be moved around on-screen, and that is not something you find in rail shooters.
Ridiculous story that's next to impossible to care about, but exhilarating and challenging gameplay throughout. I supported this game when it was new, but if you didn't (for shame!), by all means, get it now on the Wii U.
Looks like something that inspired Kid Icarus:Uprising...and I loved that, so yeah, I'll grab this when it comes out.
At the end of June.
Great game.... makes me want to play Panzer Dragon Orta for the Xbox.
Would really like to see a HD remaster of that masterpiece. Get on with it SEGA !!!
This reminds me: I never did finish this game. I've got to dig it out and give it another go.
I remember really enjoying this the first time I played it, but had trouble getting back into it on later attempts. This seems to be a running theme for Rail-shooters with me...maybe I need to start from the beginning again? It's kind of long for a shmup, though...
I am torn between getting the cheaper disc based version or the download... I could also do with playing the N64 version first but I'm holdin out for a gamepad version
For a moment there I thought we where getting a new sin and punishment, just cause I know the NA name for the game lol I bought this new at game stop for the wii when they had it on for the amazingly low price of $3 CAD, same with Kirby epic yarn for the same price new. The game is really great, I recommend it for anyone to play!
Love this game. Still have my Wii copy.
Already bought it from the eShop I still have my Wii copy lying around somewhere but who wants to deal with discs? Not me. Plus I've heard when a Wii VC eShop game utilises the Wii Classic Controller, you can actually play with the Wii U Gamepad. Can't wait to find out if that's true!
Edit: Yay! It's true, don't need any wiimotes, nunchuks or classic controllers to play this game. Just the Wii U gamepad!
I had this game on disc but could never be bothered to finish it. It's not for me. There was always so much going on on-screen I couldn't figure out what would damage me and what wouldn't.
My son and I are currently playing this! This is a GEM that no one should skip....Krazy Non-stop Action...we had to hit the home menu a few times just to get something to drink LOL!
Excellent game witth breathtaking visuals and frantic action. Well worth a purchase.
One of my favorite games ever. I cannot say enough nice things about it.
I would love to see a HD sequel though. It's one of the few games on Wii that I really wished was in HD
Too bad NoA doesn't get off their duffs and release some Wii games that never got localized. I'm looking at you Disaster Day of Crisis and freaky ghost camera game with two twelve year old Asian girls, and whatever else didn't make it over here.
This was a really great game. I will have to pick this up if it comes to the Wii U eshop. What's Treasure up to now these day? I love their games.
@WiiLovePeace Hey, how does it play with a gamepad? I'm watching this thinking, "er... this looks like it could be annoying to control with twin sticks." Love to hear what you think.
WHOA! £17.99?! Totally would have jumped at 8.99.
UPDATE: Just checked on eShop. 25% off until May 7 (£13.49)
This game and Ikaruga are quite possibly the best this genre has to offer. Really wish they would rerelease or remake Ikaruga, so bloody good.
@Mario_Fart Yeah admittedly I am finding it a little hard to control. I always used the Wiimote + Nunchuk option when I played the game back in the day. Using the gamepad to play the game made the reticle feel slow but then I found an option to turn reticle speed to "very fast" & now it feels a bit too fast haha. It'll take a while to get used to for sure, I may just end up using a wiimote later.
Without a doubt one of the best from the last generation. Superb.
@WiiLovePeace Thanks v much for that - much appreciated
@firstnesfan
Ikaruga was re-released a few years ago on the Xbox 360, and apparently on Windows last year in an enhanced form. So there you go.
@Nintenjoe64 Just get the Wii Shop version now and upgrade it for cheap if they ever release it on the the Wii U VC.
SOLD!
Would be all over this if I didn't already have it on disc. If I can find someone to buy my disc copy for the price of the download, I'll make that trade.
I got this game about a year ago... I might get this if I care about playing this with the gamepad.(when it gets here)
This is a fantastic game from a fantastic company. It didn't do so well in sales when it first came out and I feel bad for not supporting this game sooner. So please, support this game in its second release. Especially if you love shoot'em ups and rail-shooters.
@dres I'm sure there's be a demand for the whole Panzer Saga (games). Either way, this is a good game. I've got the disc, but will get the digital if/when it reaches North America.
Gameplay looks great(Looks a lot like Uprising's flying segments! ), but the characters seem boring from what I've seen so far. How's the story? Good? Boring?
One of the great Wii games that I missed out on. No better time to get it than now I suppose.
Hmmmm.....
I always wanted to pick up this game.
Got it used, cheap on eBay, recently. Probably won't play it for another 10 years but it felt like the kind of game that needs to be in the collection.
This game is EASILY one of the best on the Wii. I sat down and played it and ended up binging all night- it wasl 6am when I finally beat it and laid the Wiimote down. Loved it so much I bought a brand new sealed copy from Best Buy's sale last week, even though I already own the game.
Do yourselves a favor and BUY THIS GAME! It's an instant classic and one of Treasure's best schmups. In fact this game is genre-defining.
@firstnesfan
Agreed. I keep Sin & Punishment right next to Ikaruga on the shelf, a proud pair of games right there...
Glorious game! I already have it on Wii disc, so I skip. The Wii digital games lacks miiverse and other virtual console functions on Wii U.
Isa for Sm4sh!
All Treasure games are just the same exact series but with different labels. IDK about SS it looks like more cheap thrills compared to the N64 game ( which I own and played ).
I do not like the martial arts, naked man in pants fight ending scene.
Also..Also SAP train level ( the design ) that appears in an Chinese film ( I forget the name of that film but it begins with "Passenger" something or another. It was about an Cyborg and typically an cyber-punk type film. Ironically in SAP this level you take control over your gal pal who is also carrying your child.
Makes you ask why didn't they port this game to the west? Story edits? etc? because the entire game was ingles as well.
Doubt North America will see this release like all the other Wii releases eu got and NA didn't. If Nintendo doesn't release this in North America on THURSDAY I might blow a gasket.
Stupid draconian business practices, that all Nintendo is now..
Edit... If it's not released Thursday then il find another way to get it on my Wii u.... Gj Nintendo
