Re: Talking Point: Great Game, Poor Performance - When Does A Bad Frame Rate Not Really Matter?

imacdvguy

Have been playing Castlevania 64 lately. Besides it being underrated (fight me!) it does suffer from slowdown in certain areas (some of which are VERY sluggish like the Tower of Execution) and the N64 slows to a crawl. And you know what... I don't care it is still awesome and I love the game. Thankfully this game seems to still render all of the frames but just more slowly so it is like the old 8 and 16-bit games where you avoid a slideshow but everything turns slow motion. I used to love that when playing games. Made things feel more intense.

Re: Poll: Which is the Best Super Mario Game?

Those poll results favoring Odyssey are probably hugely inflated due to the recent release of the game and the collective hype that still exists. We will need time for the game to set in before we can get people's reasoned thoughts on where it stands in the history of Mario games.

I bought it day and date with all the pre-order perks from Best Buy and the only challenge I have had is resisting the urge to play it all day long without breaks. My favorite Mario game of all time is 64 and this game FINALLY feels like a true successor to that game (sorry Sunshine).

Re: Retro: This Is Why We Should Probably Be Glad Nintendo Stuck With Carts For The N64

I had trouble with disc rot a decade or two ago when I was heavy into collecting laser discs. It was a well known phenomenon and we collectors were always on the lookout for it. I only had it on one laser disc... But there really was nothing I could do once it started. And this is why I almost exclusively collect old cartridge and card based systems and not the disc systems. Too much hassle

Re: Nintendo Details How Voice Chat And Multiplayer Lobbies Work In Splatoon 2

imacdvguy

For some odd reason I really love the idea of the voice chat and parties and whatnot being part of an app on my smartphone. This decouples it from the system itself and I can see a lot of potential for an idea like this... although we may have to start plugging in our phones when playing games for long sessions with friends... which will be kind of annoying.

It also means you can find out who is playing or online and send each other messages without even to have your Switch turned on at the time. I like that idea.

Would be interesting to start a chat with friends, play for awhile, and then maybe switch over to our phones and play some future yet to be released multiplayer Nintendo game that uses the same app for voice and party creation. I don't know.

Re: Kimishima on the Role of the 3DS After the Switch Launch

It is fine and legitimate for Nintendo to view the 3DS as another "Third Pillar". But ultimately the market will tell them what they should do with it. If people keep buying them and playing them than Nintendo and third parties will keep making games for it... no matter how ancient the 3DS looks and feels by this point. (No really... that display is so bad... and the XL models only make it more obvious, and yet I love the 3DS games... argh!)
