Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tackles Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Nintendo Switch vs. Wii U

idork99

Awesome that they are comparing both versions and that both versions are performing well on their respectable systems. I really wanted to buy the Wii U version to support the system in it's last days but couldn't resist the portability of the Switch. For a game that's going to take many hours of my life, I love the fact that I can put in work while on the go while not being confined to a single room to where my Wii U is.

On that note, after a full 24 hours with the Switch, I've concluded that the Switch is pretty much a sexier Wii U (with no Miiverse, web browser, nor video streaming apps at the moment) that can be taken anywhere. If gaming on the go is not your cup of tea, the Wii U is a great system. If you want the portability, then you go with the Switch.

Re: First Impressions: Back on Track with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

idork99

Mario Kart to Mii is as CoD, Halo, FIFA, Madden, etc., is to most people: my favorite game franchise. Sure there are always subtle differences in each variation but the underlying factor is that they are all fun to Mii. Anytime a new Mario Kart is out, I will purchase day one. With that said, this is the only reason that I will be purchasing the Switch as the thought of playing the best kart game yet on the go is indeed enticing.

I'll continue to play MK8 on Wii U until April 28 then I'll switch to the deluxe. See you at the starting line. Look for Mii.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

idork99

I don't mind that it's only MK8 with new characters, battle mode, and double items. MK8 is hands down the best in the series and I'm glad it's being ported to the Switch in 1080p!
Until late April, I'll continue playing MK8 on the Wii U! See you at the starting line! Either on Wii U or Switch on April 28!

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Release Date and Key Games Outlined

"Mario Kart 8 Port (Minor additions)"

I have no problem with Wii U gems, such as MK8, being ported to the Switch. They're brilliant games that need a second chance to be looked at and played.

Also, I keep thinking if MK8 is a port with minor updates, will the updates make it's way to the Wii U version? Will you be able to play online against Wii U owners with the Switch? If they can realize those two things, that would be awesome! That would bring in more competition to a very competitive, but limited, group. Wii U and Switch owners competing on line would be awesome. A win-win for all Nintendo owners. New and Old!

Re: Editorial: Reminiscing on Hoarding StreetPass Hits, and Why Any NX 'Portable' Should Keep Them Alive

idork99

I love StreetPass!

Other than the 3D, StreetPass is another quintessential feature of the 3DS. I agree that living in small towns makes StreetPass obsolete so having businesses with StreetPass Relays is awesome. But StreetPass with real people is where it's at.

Thanks to NintendoLife, I am part of the largest StreetPass community in the US (San Diego). The community continues to gather once a month with anywhere from 100 to 200+ attendees. It's a beautiful sight to see Nintendo gamers united!

Here's to hoping StreetPass lives on

Re: Feature: Ten of Our Favourite DSiWare Games

idork99

Although Mighty Flip Champs! received two sequels in the form of Mighty Milky Way and Mighty Switch Force!, art style aside, all three games play differently.

Mighty Milky Way is the game I still go to for short bursts today. Gameplay is unique and still holds up for Mii.

Re: Editorial: Losing It All - When a Wii U's External Hard Drive Dies

idork99

This is my first time dealing with an external hard drive for any of my gaming systems and luckily I've had no problems thus far.

I love my Wii U and play it everyday. Losing game's memory aside, another thing that would make me upset is if they stopped the Nintendo Network like they did Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Playing MK8 is awesome on line so taking away this service would make the system obsolete to Mii.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Continued Commitment to the 3DS Makes Sense

idork99

Back in late 2011, I wrote a little blog for IGN, which was my main reading source for Nintendo at the time, saying how the 3DS is my favorite system of all time. Nowadays, I still carry my 3DS in my pocket but rarely play it. Most of my time, oddly, is dedicated to my Wii U and MK8. Looking at both systems, they are both great in their own right. One for 3D and the other for HD. One for portability, the other for being a great home console with 8+ players can play at once in some games.

It's sad for the Wii U. I wish it had succeeded but that dreadful Gamepad is the reason for it's failure; they could never bring down the price of the system because of it. For as much as I play Wii U, I rarely use it. Wii U Pro Controller is where it's at for Mii

Re: Feature: A Night at the Arcade

idork99

Great little read! I've been a gamer since '85 and I still miss the arcade scene! There is nothing like it. When people talk about what's changed in the past 20 years in life, I always bring up gaming as an example. Simply put, people talk big behind a small screen. There is sooo much bullying on line because its easy to do so; you'll never see the other person's reaction and will not empathize. Enter the online gaming scene today and you'll find a bunch of people constantly talking smack. But 20 years ago, if you beat someone at SFII and talked smack to them, there would be someone in front of you to beat you up outside in the street if you were a sore winner. Online gaming is awesome. But it still doesn't beat the live, in person, arcade scenes of yesterday.

Re: Poll: Are You Confident About Nintendo's 3DS Focus for 2016?

idork99

In late 2011, I was convinced that the 3DS was my favorite system of all time. Now, it's still in my pocket. Honestly, I'd play it more but MK8 takes up most of my gaming time. But when I'm not home, there's a great feeling that comes when some of the greatest games ever made are right on my pocket . 3DS: best portable system of all time. NX has a tough job ahead if it wants to take the title.

Re: Feature: Thoughts on the 3DS as It Reaches Its Fifth Anniversary

idork99

Prior to the announcement of the 3DS, I had made a clear decision that I would never purchase a handheld gaming device again since my iPhone and it's app store would cover all my gaming on the go needs. When the 3DS system was unveiled in 2010, I actually scoffed at Nintendo since I saw the implementation of 3D as a gimmick to differentiate from the competition. Then Ocarina of Time 3D was announced…my favorite game of all time…in 3D! I didn't purchase the system day 1 since my intent was to buy the system when OoT was released. Then e3 2011 came around and the announcement of the eShop with the release of Link's Awakening being released, I rushed to the nearest shop to get my hands on the system and made my download purchase immediately. Since then, the 3DS and I have been inseparable

Re: 'Brain Training' Games Aren't All They're Cracked Up to be

idork99

Good thing Nintendo went that route. Personally, I think brain age was great for its time. It was part of the Touch Generations; for the casual gamer. Sad thing is that Nintendo relied on that crowd this generation (hence 3DS and Wii U). But all that crowd (and $$$) went to smartphones and tablets

I'm not sure what brought Mii to this site but I'm glad to be a daily reader and to be a part of a great community. YOU ROCK NL!!! Cheers to everyone in the community and a special thanks to all that have contributed to the site over these pass 10 years! Let's keep gaming!

Re: Video: Nintendo Focuses on a Mix of Old and New in 3DS Holiday Commercial

idork99

@Angelic_Lapras_King True. If it weren't for my kids breaking my 3DS XL in half, then I wouldn't have purchased the "new" XL model. But on a positive, I always play my 3DS with the 3D all the way up so the steadiness of the "new" model is truly appreciated. Also, RE Revelations is a joy to play on the new model. Great for Halloween

Re: Mario History: Mario Kart 8 - 2014

idork99

@Blue_Blur I never knew of this technique! Although I did purchase from day one, I didn't really get into it till the 2nd pack came out. I was still playing MK7 since that's all my friends had. But slowly but surely they've been playing more MK8 so I've finally made the full transition myself. I'll have to try this tonight! Thanks again @Blue_Blur!

Re: Mario Memories: Mario Kart 8 and Discovering the Joys of Online Multiplayer

idork99

I've always liked the Mario Kart series, but it wasn't until MK DS came out that I fell in love with the series. I'd gather five friends and play six player for months. I tried the online component but it was the first Nintendo on line game so the experience was a bit flat. Played MK Wii for a little bit but despised the 12 racers. MK7 and MK8 have to be the best in the series but if I had to choose one it would be the latter as it is the pinnacle of Mario Kart racers! So much fun that who knows when I'll stop playing. Looking for more friends if interested...see you on the track

Re: Guide: How to Complete a System Transfer from a 3DS to a New Nintendo 3DS / XL

idork99

@topperware

Awesome for you!!! I think that's where the trouble was! Unfortunately for Mii, I was so frustrated yesterday that I ended up formatting the system memory on my N3DS to see what it would do (idiot idea!). So now, I re-entered my NNID on my N3DS and reformatted (erased) my micro SD card. I tried to drag both "Nintendo 3DS" and "DCIM" folders onto the formatted micro SD card and connect it to the N3DS but no luck . I can access my photos but no save files nor Mii's or StreetPasses in tact!! Now, I'm reformatting the micro SD card and I'm only going to drag the "DCIM" file with the hopes of when I re download all my games, all the save states will be in tact. Crossing my fingers!!!

Re: Guide: How to Complete a System Transfer from a 3DS to a New Nintendo 3DS / XL

idork99

@Bizzyb said: "Did you make sure to replace the "3DS Folder" Completely with your old 3DS folder? If you place the old folder "inside" the new folder it won't work. You have to replace the entire folder."

I think that's where I made my mistake. Now, I'm reformatting the SD card and doing the "Re-download everything with saves erased" option after talking to a Nintendo rep. I tried to explain that the game files were in the micro SD card but I could not open them on my N3DS. I thought maybe it had to do with my music files so I erased them all. Then I started clicking through the folders and did see that when I clicked open my "Nintendo 3DS" file, there was another file with the same name in it. I know the guide here stated to just drag the files from the desktop to the micro SD card but I don't recall if there was any indicator of erasing the folder "Nintendo 3DS" from the micro SD card that you remove after system transfer is complete through the systems. Oh well, my SD card is halfway through the formatting. Let's see what I can do to retrieve my precious little games back. Because it is all about the games. Without the games, it's just a shiny new cool looking machine #vita

Re: Guide: How to Complete a System Transfer from a 3DS to a New Nintendo 3DS / XL

idork99

Super infuriated!!! Followed everything here step by step (beverage included) and could not get any game to show up on my menu!!! All the folders were in tact but no game could be found. When I'd go to system menu and look up software info, there were no games to be found. Strangely, there was a 32 GB SD card plugged in and the memory space that it should be taking up was there, but no games!!!!!!!!!!

Any help

Re: Play: Mario Kart 8 With Nintendo Life in a 10 Hour Community Tournament

idork99

"The tournament will have a limit of 32 races per player, which is a few hours of racing, so it won't be entirely a case of the winner being whoever hangs around the longest."

This is great news!! Since I've yet to set up a tournament (community), I never knew that you could make a limit on the number of races people can play. This works for me as I used to loathe playing catch up when joining a community late in Mario Kart 7. Now, the probabity of winning will come down to how strong the group is that you're playing against. There could be a chance that an excellent racer will be in a room of subpar racers and gain massive points while in another it can be all tough racers with players rotating first place. Still, it's a major improvement!

For those who want to compete against me, I'll join around 4:30PM Pacific (12:30AM UK) and will race until my 32 races are up. I'm not going to say I'm the best at Mario Kart but I am super competitive! See you all tomorrow
