Re: Review: Pokémon X & Y (3DS)

idork99

I was thinking of making the jump to this game but someone told me that if I didn't like the series then, then odds are that I will not like it now.

I just got a Wii U this week so I may not touch my 3DS until Nov. 22 when A Link between Worlds is released!

Re: Nintendo Considering Cross-Buy eShop Purchases, But Doesn't Have Anything To Announce Yet

idork99

Yes and yes!

I just received a Wii U as a gift. And although I have the option of repurchasing the same titles I used to own on the Wii Virtual Console for a fraction of the cost, I'm still having to pay again. I own Punch-Out!! On Wii, 3DS, and Wii U for $11. Just wish I could pay $5 flat and enjoy the game on the Nintendo system of my choice.

It would be nice but I don't see it happening anytime soon

Re: Celebrate the launch of Pokémon X & Y at Nintendo World in New York

idork99

I wish they'd do the same all around the world in all the major cities. Tokyo, London, Paris (it seems ideal especially since the scene of the game is based off of this city), New York, L.A., Chicago... and every other major city I forgot to mention. Now that would be a party!

And I'm not even a fan of Pokemon. But I'd still love to attend to meet up with my fellow Nintenerds and get some puzzle pieces for StreetPass

Re: Lifetime Sales for the 3DS Have Now Surpassed the Wii in Japan

idork99

Wow! The Wii sold a lot of systems around the world and the majority of the sales were outside of Japan! I guess the motion controls were a hit around the world! Everybody and their moms/grandmas wanted to play Wii Sports. Now that the motion magic is gone, Nintendo just can't get the Wii U going. I will buy one soon and I know I'll love it. But as far as sales go, I feel that the system is going to be left behind in far third in sales behind Sony and Microsoft. It's the GameCube era all over again!

But great to hear the 3DS is doing great

Re: Out Today: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (North America)

idork99

I haven't purchased a Wii U so the limited edition sounds very tempting.

Sadly, I'll most likely hold off. I'm anxious to try the HD version of this game. But I fear that if I purchase now, I'll spend all my time with the system and abandon my 3DS because of it. Reality is, there are too many good games out for the 3DS. And I just want to make sure that I indulge in all of the games it has to offer before I make the jump to HD gaming.

I'll hold off until Mario Kart 8. Hopefully they'll have a similar bundle for that game as well when it releases.

Re: Review: Tecmo Bowl (3DS eShop / NES)

idork99

This game holds high nostalgia value to me!

It's interesting how 20+ years later, I still enjoy this game. I bought it from the eShop the day it came out, and I was shocked on how when I started playing it, I simply could not put the game down! A personal Classic!

As was the case for (Mike Tyson's) Punch-Out!!, Tecmo no longer has the right to use any NFL players' names without consent. Still, I like that the number of the players are still there. NFL fans will immediately recognize the team and players in the game. Personally, I always pick Los Angeles (Raiders) and hand the ball off to #34 (Bo Jackson)!! He's unstoppable!

Re: First Impressions: Pokémon X & Y

idork99

I've yet to play a Pokemon game. With all the hype at the moment, I'm wondering if now is a good time to start? The only Pokemon game I've dabbled with a bit would have to be during the GBC era. My nephew was a huge fan and needed my help to pass some puzzle in a cave he couldn't get out of. After seeing him play, I just couldn't find what all the fuzz was about. My background is arcade games so it seems I have a huge attraction for action platformers and such. The only action RPG games I'm attracted to is The Legend of Zelda series.

For a person who did not like the GBC versions of Pokemon, do you think Pokemon has evolved enough with this latest iteration to create a fan out of me?

I'm probably going to pass until I can play the game and make a decision. So, yes, a demo would be nice.

Re: Feature: Hiroshi Yamauchi - The Man Who Made Nintendo

idork99

Excellent article!...the only way to honor such an important person in our history. I especially love the Jez San story! It truly creates a vivid picture of the respect his intimidating presence demanded.

My deepest thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends. And thank you for all that you have done in creating the industry that I love.

Re: Mega Man, Shin Megami Tensei And Ganbare Goemon Sequels Coming To Japanese Virtual Console Services

idork99

I'm glad to see that they're releasing more Game Boy games for the 3DS with Mega Man 2.

There's still so much room for improvement on the 3DS eShop and Virtual Console! Currently, the Virtual Console has Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear, and NES games for purchase with many more games from these systems yet to be released. There's also the new exclusive eShop games, 3D Classics (only six games are available sadly), and downloadable retail games along with demos. This all sounds great but more could and should be done. How about the Sega 3D Classic games that are only currently available in Japan? How about some SNES and/or GBA games? What happened to the TG16 support?

The 3DS is a hot system at the moment. It's crazy to believe that it can only get better with more games, both old and new! And I hope it does

Re: Wii Sports Club Takes The Competition Online With HD Visuals And Wii MotionPlus Support

idork99

I don't know. Bringing these Wii Sports in HD is a brilliant move but the on line I'm not so sure. Personally, the multiplayer in motion sports games are better enjoyed with a crowd. I can see a tennis game getting boring while playing on line. I could be wrong but that's just me.

Unless there's an option to have the cameras/microphones on while playing so you can interact during the game with your opponent. That would be fun!

Re: DuckTales: Remastered Coming to Retail on Wii U in North America

idork99

Smart move for Capcom. Seeing this game on the shelves will be an automatic purchase for the many gamers that go shopping at retail stores as opposed to purchasing download only games. You'd be surprised, there are many gamers who are out there that never shop on line and would never know the existence of this game.

@Bengals76 By chance, are you a Cincinnati Bengals fan? If so, that's awesome! I never see Bengals fans anywhere! WHO DEY!! Lol. If you are not a fan, I apologize and pay no mind to my comment.

Re: Monster Hunter 4 Shifts Over 1.7 Million Retail Units In Two Days

idork99

Wow!

@galetyler You're right. This was a PSP exclusive game. Whatever happened to that? I recall the creator saying that the 3D in the 3DS was reason enough to put the third installment on the Nintendo handheld. But wonder if there's more to the story? Because if I'm Sony, I would do everything to not let this exclusive game be on other systems because, well, just look at the numbers! Extraordinary!

Re: Feature: Why Zelda: Wind Waker HD Is The Perfect Game For Families

idork99

Great read and video. I don't have children but do have nephews and nieces that are 5-7 years old and love playing on my 3DS. They love the Mario games a lot at the moment. I keep telling my five year old nephew that once he learns how to read more, that is when I'll introduce him to the greatest game of all time: Ocarina of Time. He gets excited everytime I mention it and all he says,"Ah! I can't wait!" Lol. But looking at this game, this would also be a great introduction for them into the Zelda series. Actually, looking at this video and after reading reviews today, I'm actually tempted to buy this Zelda bundle. I don't own a Wii U yet. I said I'd wait until Mario Kart 8 but this game looks gorgeous. And it's not even in my top 3 Zelda's!

Re: Iwata Asks Connects With The Team Behind StreetPass Relay

idork99

The streetpass at McD's stopped working for a bit but I did receive one last time I went. Don't know if the recent tiny update helped with that issue.

Oddly, now I'm having a bit of a problem with the wifi at home in spots that I usually get reception. I can't count how many races I've been kicked out of on MK7 recently for bad reception which is frustrating because I'm losing VR points. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Without iOS Support Nintendo "Doesn’t Reach Today’s Kids" Says Apple Advocate John Gruber

idork99

"Trust me, put an iPad Mini and a 3DS on a table next to each other, and most kids today will reach, if not jump, for the iPad."

Very true. Every kid today knows what an iPhone/iPad/iPod touch is. Not every kid knows what a 3DS is. My niece and nephew have the luxury of having iPhones, iPads, and 3DS' to play with. They'll use the iPad for movies, the iPhone for simply gaming, and will stay on the 3DS for hours. I wonder if this is the same for other households.

Re: StreetPass Relay Issues Reported in North America

idork99

After the latest update, I probably received two StreetPasses from a Nintendozone at McD's. I haven't received one since. I also went last night with my 3DS and no luck.

Gamers need to educate people with 3DS' here in the US. Either they never connect on line and never have the latest firmware or they carry their systems with the power turned off. After having the system for over two years, I'm happy to say that at least I'm getting StreetPasses around the neighborhood which is encouraging. Streetpass is an excellent feature and an essential part of the 3DS' experience that not utilizing it is a shame.

@XCWarrior Lol! LeDouche!

Re: Weirdness: This 1DS Spoof is Remarkably Well Done

idork99

@shinpichu @Crouteru I was with family this weekend and discussed how cool it would be to have an accessory that can connect the top screen of the 3DS to a television monitor. I love playing in 3D so it's almost impossible for anybody behind me to see the action. That way, everyone is enjoying what I'm playing. But I'm sure this could be a distraction for Wii U sales so it'll probably never be released for mass market. I know I've seen them at Nintendo events to let the crowd see the action in competitions. It would be cool if it were ever released.

Re: Nintendo's Scott Moffitt: 3DS and Vita Have Very Different Strategies For Portable Play

idork99

@Dambuster I would hope that it works better since it is a more sophisticated piece of hardware. But @Coldfirex44 said it right. You don't need a powerful system for fun, you just need the right games. The games on the 3DS are, at the moment, more appealing to me in the fun factor. I'm sure that the Vita has great games and will have more down the pipeline but it just doesn't have the games that appeal to me.

And I also do not like that you have to buy memory sticks that are more expensive than the SD cards (purchased a 32GB SD card for $20).

Re: Wii U Name Isn't To Blame For Poor Sales, Says Reggie

idork99

"'What am I going to play? And what am I going to play that's a new and unique and compelling experience vs. what I can do today, whether it's on the Wii or any other system?'"

I can understand Reggie. It's true, people have too many electronic devices to distract them that the need for another one is never a thought. Nintendo is just having a fight with the times. People are too distracted to really find out the Wii U difference is because upon brief look it all seems the same of what's out there already.

Re: 3D Gaming is Very Much A Part of Nintendo's Future Plans

idork99

I'm tempted to purchase for the price. I've been wanting a new 3DS for the house to play MK7 multiplayer with family members. I'm the only person that plays with the 3D on at all times in my household so they wouldn't be missing the 3D aspect of the system.

Also, I tried to play Ocarina of Time with the 3D turned off just now to see how I feel about playing games on the 2DS. Then I turned the 3D back on...ah, how I love the 3D on the 3DS!!

In conclusion, if you hate 3D and are not comfortable with the starting price of the 3DS, then the 2DS can be a system for you. Children especially, this system is for you too.

Re: Say Hello To The Nintendo 2DS - A 3DS without 3D

idork99

@SnackBox(38) @yvanjean(16) @Warruz(12) Many great points made.

Although the design may look hideous to many, I agree that this design may be very appealing to the intended audience which is 7 years and younger with the tablet like resemblance at more than half the cost of one.

In regards to battery, this is still the number one complaint about the 3DS. People forget that the 3DS's top screen utilizes more power when the screen is in 2D more than 3D. It's clamshell design doesn't allow much room to provide a bigger battery either. So by removing the 3D screen and clamshell design, I should expect that the battery life should be exceptional in this design.

Although this design doesn't appeal to me personally, I'm tempted to purchase for the household. I'm the only owner of a 3DS and I have many nephews consistently asking me to let them borrow mine. And although I hate coughing it up, (because I love to use the pedometer daily and hate to miss an opportunity of a streetpass) I can never deny my children of quality gaming. I've been wanting to purchase another 3DS for quite a while to have a spare for this purpose and the price of the 2DS may put me over the edge to buy.

Re: The Wonderful 101 Misses the Top 20 in UK All-Format Charts

idork99

Looks like the 101 is on it's way to becoming a cult classic; not popular when released, but a steady growing fan base when more Wii U's are purchased with time.

This game looks right up my alley but I'm holding off 'till MK8 is released to purchase a Wii U. Ironically, it's all Nintendo's fault for releasing such a cool system as the 3DS! Too many great games and so little time

Re: Character Outlines Will Be Customisable in 3DS Super Smash Bros.

idork99

I feel that the outlines were made with the regular 3DS model in mind. The 3DS screen is fairly small for a game that zooms out far distances.

With the 3DS XL screen, I don't think it's much of a problem and probably looks better without the outlines. I won't know for sure until I see the game in motion on a 3DS screen. But good call with the option.

Re: Review: Summer Carnival '92 RECCA (3DS eShop)

idork99

I think it's safe to say that I am absolutely a horrible player when it comes to SHMUPS. But I love the genre! I say it's because I used to see great players in the arcades and I'd try to replicate their actions unsuccessfully. (Plus the games seem to always have awesome soundtracks!)

Anywho, this will be an automatic download for me to show support for a release of a rare retro title such as this one.
