Re: Developer Interview: Shin'en Multimedia Talks About Jett Rocket II, New Modes and Sticking with Nintendo

idork99

Cool read! I'll definitely be looking for this.

The Art of Balance Touch is an awesome game. I also have Nano Assault EX but have yet to play through the whole thing (don't have much patience for shmups as I used to I guess). The point is, these are the only two titles I own from them and you can tell the quality of their games in their visuals and sounds. I'm glad they make games for Nintendo hardware as otherwise I'd never known who they are.

Great job and looking forward to this game!!

idork99

@6ch6ris6 @iMii @NorthLightSuplx @chiefeagle02 @3DSFan134 @SpinelessOyster ...and everyone else I may have missed (or wants to join).

Anyone up for some Mario Kart 7 on line?

I'll be playing from 8pm-10pm UK (12pm-2pm pacific/3pm-5pm eastern) if anyone wants to join me. Just add my FC and post so I can add you to my friend's list. You can look for me as I'll be playing worldwide. If we can get enough racers, perhaps we can open up a room (like the NL one that no one uses anymore).

Re: GameStop Defends Xenoblade Chronicles Pricing, Plans More "Vintage Titles" Like Metroid Prime Trilogy

idork99

GameStop. More like "GamePawn."

Since many new games are now available digitally, compulsive buyers no longer need to go to GameStop to purchase games and that's where GameStop's money came from. Countless times I was at the store when the compulsive shoppers came in and gave up their 2-4 week old games, and would use all those games for "trade in" value to purchase the newest game; only to sell it back to GameStop and repeat the cycle. Now, those shoppers can't sell back the digital versions so they no longer need to go to the store to throw away their monies. They can now do it from the comfort of their own gadget.

Re: Nintendo UK Launches Mario Kart 7 Facebook App

idork99

@bezerker99 I do!!

Mario Kart is my favorite gaming series and MK7 is my favorite kart to date!

Is this only for UK or can anyone from around the world join?

I'd love to be able to compete. I joined a group here on NL, "Mario Kart Mondays," and that was cancelled this week after only three weeks of competition. I also miss the NL competitions they used to have as those were great fun! I'll check out the site to see if I can join.

edit: Just checked out the site and I was able to join. There's a tournament tomorrow from 7pm to 9pm UK time. I'll be there!

Re: Video: This Monster Hunter 4 Trailer May Be The Best Yet

idork99

Sweeet!

To be honest, MH3U is my first Monster Hunter experience. And for the first couple of weeks, I was hooked and couldn't put it down. I made it only to the *** (3 star) missions and couldn't get passed one monster! Grrr! I tried, and tried, and just could not beat him! I finally moved on to other games since then but regret thst I have not played it in months! But last week, I finally got my first Spotpasses (2 in a row believe it or not) for this game and my curiosity for this game started up again. Like I said before, this is my first Monster Hunter experience so I don't know what I'm doing wrong here . I only use shield and armor for every mission since I like that set up. I don't know if that's the reason I can't get pass my current mission. Should I change to other weapon types?

Anyhow, this trailer is super sweet but I can wait a while for this one since I know I've only scratched the surface on MH3U.

Re: Review: Cloudberry Kingdom (Wii U eShop)

idork99

I am sooo torn!

Historically, I've been known to buy Nintendo systems, home console or portable, on day one compulsively. That came to a halt this generation with the 3DS. Ocarina of Time 3D was the only reason I purchased a 3DS as I had no intention of ever buying another Nintendo system in my life.

So...I've had my 3DS since then and all I have to say is wow! I've never loved a system sooo much as I love my 3DS!

It's sadly the reason I don't own a Wii U currently as I don't see the need to own one when I already own a great system with so many games to play! And I'm one of the few that plays with the 3D on at all times as it is just put to great use in many games. It rarely adds anything new to the gameplay but boy it sure looks pretty!

Then I read reviews such as these and feel sorta guilty. I know I'll love the Wii U like no other but I have so much left to play on my 3DS! So, hang in there Nintendo! As I am going to wait until Mario Kart 8 releases to purchase a Wii U.

Gamers, if you don't mind portable gaming, do yourselves a favor and purchase a 3DS. If you love gaming with the big screen at home where you can see everything clearly, get yourself a Wii U! In my perspective, they are equivalently excellent systems!

Re: Pokémon X & Y to Catch Roughly 14,000 of Your 3DS Memory Blocks

idork99

Just in case anyone is considering getting a bigger SD card for your 3DS and don't know what size would be good (8, 16, 32, 64GB, etc.), I wanted to break down how many games I have on my 32GB card and how much memory I have left.

Retail games:
Resident Evil: Revelations = 25,793
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D = 17,655
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate = 14,273
Style Savyy: Trendsetters = 10,508
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon = 6,745
Animal Crossing: New Leaf = 6,000
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D = 3,644
New Super Mario Bros. 2 = 2,725
Super Mario 3D Land = 2,318

and I also have:
20 eShop games
20 Game Boy games
6 Game Boy Color games
8 Game Gear games
6 3D Classics games
20 NES games
10 GBA games
25 Demo games
Plus all apps (Swapnote, Nintendo Video, etc.)

And I also use the camera app for photos and videos quite a lot.

So, with all that, I have a total of 74,291 blocks remaining.

I hope this gives you a good view on which SD card will be adequate for you.

Re: Soapbox: Mobile And Tablet Gaming Is Creating A Generation Of Talentless Players

idork99

Haha! This is a great article!

I wanted to vote for "you don't need skills" but settled for "games are games." You said it right when comparing the C64 to the iPad. The youngsters are growing with this tech and I'm sure it'll be nostalgic once they become adults. And yes, as much as I hate to admit, there are some games that benefit more from touch input (something that I can argue Nintendo made made mainstream with DS). Plants vs Zombies was originally a PC game converted to everything. When played on an iPad, I feel that the game controls great because of the huge touchscreen.

I also agree that the iPad/smartphones could never replace dedicative hardcore gaming systems. And that's because of UI. Smartphones/tablets were made for using your finger for easy interaction. There's just so many things you can do with a finger and a screen. Now get those same fingers, along with both thumbs, and see how many more things you can do with a gaming controller.

And as far as jumping from one app to another with today's youth, that's another problem itself. Besides boredom, I feel that children today do not know how to practice patience. It's funny that you can ask any 3-5 year old child today how to navigate an OS but most of those same children do not know how to tie their shoe . We only have technology to blame: we live in an age of instant gratification and the kids will never benefit from it. Hence, most will never appreciate Street Fighter since their attention span won't allow them to learn the moves. Plus, they'll be like,"what are all these buttons for?!"

Re: IGN Editor: If Wii U Doesn't Pick Up, Nintendo Should Look To New Hardware

idork99

"The time when horsepower alone made an important difference is over."
Satoru Iwata, E3 2004

In 2013, it still seems to be a difference for people looking for the system with the latest in cutting edge technology. For those of us who simply care about the games, it doesn't make a difference. And that's my reason for not owning a Wii U (thus far).

I am completely happy with my 3DS: the experience, the controls, the visuals...everything! I feel like I have everything I've ever wanted in a dedicative gaming system weather it be portable or home console. And I have Nintendo to thank and letting me know that I don't need the newest system to have fun. The experience is all that matters.

And to be honest, I feel like I will love the Wii U when I get one. I say this because I love my 3DS. And if you really think about it, how much different is the UI from 3DS and Wii U game pad? Not much. The Wii U is an HD 3DS that utilizes your television as the second screen.

Re: Black 3DS XL Arrives in North America on 11th August

idork99

The Cosmo black was a very sleek design and looked sexy. But the size of the XL feels great in my hands compared to the regular 3DS.

I'm gonna save to buy this (over a Wii U may I add).

And I won't be giving up my XL Blue/Black to upgrade. I want to have multiple 3DS systems so I can multiplayer with family and friends when they visit me

Re: Nintendo Feels That Working On Smartphones And Tablets Would "Decrease Brand Value"

idork99

This is old news! Nintendo bringing their games to smartphones?! Not going to happen. Let me quote a couple of famous people to end this ruckus. First, the late and great Steve Jobs said,

"If your passionate about software, you need to make your own hardware."

Which is exactly what both Apple and Nintendo do! And to finish my argument, here is another quote from Iwata from 2009 in which he says,

"The Nintendo DS brand offers an experience that mobile phones—no matter how smart the phone—can't match."

That is all I have to say.

Re: Review: Undead Bowling (3DS eShop)

idork99

Played the demo and had fun. I don't want to undermine the developers of this game but I also think the asking price is pretty steep. $2.99 would've been perfect. $1.99 would be an awesome automatic purchase. But $6.99?! No thanks.

Re: Feature: A Weekend With Pikmin 3

idork99

I'm glad to read great things about this game. Also, it's nice to hear good news about the Wii U.

I played the original on the GameCube. And although the game looked and played great, I found out that it wasn't my type of game. Perhaps I'll have the opportunity to play this game in the future as I most likely will not own a Wii U until MK8 arrives.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Did Consider Smash Bros. For Previous Handhelds

idork99

Glad they waited!

It'll be worth the wait. And I agree that the GBA and every system before it would do no justice to Smash. They could've made it for the DS and it would've been equivalent to the first Smash for the N64 graphics wise. Besides, Smash was never meant to be a handheld game. You need to be able to see the action with the camera zoomed in and out and portable screens tend to be hard to view. I'm still curious to see how it will all pan out. I know it'll be good and I'm really glad they waited

Also, I know that they're aiming to make the speed of the game faster than Brawl yet slower than Melee. I really do wish that it's really close to Melee!

Re: Weirdness: Two Kids Debate The Legend of Zelda

idork99

@TimLatshaw Thank you!
I, too, was actually scratching my head about all the negative comments. It seems that many people are not too sympathetic with kids putting videos on you tube. I actually found the video to be hilarious. Then again, I'm an uncle and have had the experience of being around young children and seeing their imaginations at work. Big kuddos to them for uploading videos! And yes, they do remind me of adults; we are only going to point out the negative of things we don't like

Re: Satoru Iwata Refutes Claim That Nintendo Is "Suffering" Right Now

idork99

"Do you think Iwata is perhaps being too optimistic, though? Or are you supremely confident in his ability — and Nintendo's — to turn the Wii U around?"

Yes and no. It's a bit of an irony that the 3DS is doing well against rival portable products (smartphones, tablets, etc.). Yet, it could be argued that a culmination of those same portable products, along with the abundance of 360's and PS3's currently in many homes, are the ones hindering the sales of the Wii U. We are saturated with games and apps all around us from so many appliances that no one sees the need for another product. Besides die hard fans that will buy right away, I'm curious to see how the One and PS4 will perform in terms of sales. Honestly, I don't see any new home console that will break any records in sales. It'll be all about the games that are exclusive to each console that will determine sales. I, for one, am completely happy with my 3DS and will probably not buy a Wii U until MK8, my favorite franchise, arrives next year. If I loved Grand Turismo or Halo more, I'd get the dedicative system that game played on. If I loved all three franchises and had the means to purchase all three, I probably would. And if I were a casual gamer and had no interest in any of the franchises that Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony offered, I'd be content with my iPhone 4 and never purchase any system. This is the way I see gaming today.

Re: Smash Bros. Melee EVO Tournament Broke Viewer Records

idork99

One of the best times yesterday watching the Smash Bros tournament on line. Better than a football match if you'd ask me.

Anyhow, thank you very, very much Nintendo for allowing a gem like Melee to be playable at EVO! I hope the series and tournament gets bigger with the years to come.

Re: Iwata: We Are To Blame For Poor Wii U Sales

idork99

Here's my problems with Wii U:
1. It's an HD 3DS. If Nintendo has taught me anything is that graphics don't matter if it has great gameplay. The Wii U will have excellent games and I understand how it's different than its competitors. I've known about the unique gameplay with two screens since 2004 with the DS.
2. This is the most expensive machine Nintendo has released in the US. If HD is what I want and what I'm paying for, I'd rather wait and save another $50 for a PS4. But I'm not looking for HD, I'm looking for great gameplay at an affordable price (3DS).

The DS/3DS brand is like no other and Nintendo knows this. It seems that they're trying to bring that magic to a living room full of scratching heads. Those scratching their heads are the people that refuse to play portable games because a. the screen is too small compared to a TV, and b. the system is portable, hence, not next gen; not powerful or comparable to a home console.

If you want people to look at the Wii U, you're really going to need to hit them upside the head. Those people are not going to, nor, willing to look at the Wii U. The only solution I see here is pricing. That way more people will buy and word of mouth will run rapid throught the streets but I know Nintendo doesn't want to do that. But look at the 3DS! The price drop hurt you some but not much. And now, the 3DS is selling because people are seeing the great games!

Re: Nintendo's Charlie Scibetta Explains the Benefits of Developers Running the Company

idork99

I do hope the Wii U can succeed. Even though there's nothing coming out this year that would entice me to make a purchase. And although I'm still upset about the 12-racers in Mario Kart 8, I know I'll make a purchase the day that game comes out as it is my favorite gaming franchise!

Nintendo has always been successful because of their software and the time they take with production to insure that it's "fun." I feel old school gamers see and understand Nintendo's philosophies while many other gamers don't bother to look or take the time with the game as it's not the next big thing and is graphically inferior to other systems in regards to power. Powerful graphics are great. But if the game is not fun then what's the point? If one wants to see beautiful images on a screen with minimal interaction, couldn't one just buy a blu-ray player and enjoy that?

Re: Talking Point: E3 Exposed the Strains of Nintendo's Development Workload

idork99

In regards to Mario Kart 8 being released in 2014, I don't have a problem as I have Mario Kart 7 and an awesome 3DS with a great library to tie me down until next year. The more time they take, the more awesome it'll be. Nintendo fans shouldn't worry as I feel it is in a healthy position. When the "AAA" quality games come out, the people will come and make their purchase. Hopefully the Wii U will have a better price tag by then.

Re: First Impressions: Mario Kart 8

idork99

I'm still upset at the 12 racers per race. But knowing myself, I'll probably still end up buying the game and finally purchase the Wii U in 2014. As of now, still having a blast with my 3DS with MK7 and all the other awesome games so I can wait

Re: Sakurai: New Super Smash Bros. To Strike A Balance Between Hardcore And Casual

idork99

"And so the vision for the overall balance of the game in Smash Bros Melee, it was sort of more focused towards more hardcore players. Then when it came around to making Brawl, this was a game that was targeting a Wii audience where there were a lot of beginner players, so it sort of leaned a little bit more in that direction.
So now, for this time around, we're sort of aiming for something that is in between those as far as the speed of the game. Because I don't really think this time we're in a situation where we're trying to accommodate that many new players."

I almost want to call BS on this. My guess for not making it more Melee-like has to do with the 3DS hardware. They probably had to find a balance speed in which both games' (3DS and Wii U) controls handle the same.
